I say Bill should sign this dude and cut Allen next year. Allen is due way too much money (6.9 mil) and Ben is a UFA making reasonable money. Have him come in and play the veteran TE role and draft someone else to *maybe* replace Gronk. (tall order lol, good luck with that!)

Never forget:

If he's healthy enough for one last go at a ring I find it hard to believe that Brady wouldn't love having him back.

Watson has said he is retiring.
But good news Gronk is not.
You keep your ear to the streets all things involving Gronk, so I assume that you have good reason for making this statement. How confident are you that he’ll be returning? I would assume that any injury issue he had was probably not related to the back and can be improved upon after an entire offseason.

Ben Watson is missing the NFCCG with appendicitis.

Obviously the rumor is Gronk is hanging them up but he has not stated publicly anything of the sort.

Did he say something to make you believe this?

Love me some Ben Watson. Would've liked to see him in Murderer's place for a few years

Ben Watson scored a 48 on his wonderlic. That is absolutely insane. A 36 is Mensa territory and a 50 is a perfect score.

I wish the Patriots had signed him as a free agent about 5 years ago. Not only is he super talented, particularly as a receiver, but also a great guy and very smart.
His run down of Champ Bailey in the playoffs is one of the greatest Patriots hustle play of all time. Happy for Ben he is retiring after an excellent career.

FYI for anyone asking Watson has been saying all year this is his last season, and repeated those sentiments last night after the appendicitis news

Watson, one of my favorite players, is now 38 so doubt he could be talked out of retirement.. good steady football player, good man in the clubhouse and good man in the community.. he also is a relative bargain in the days of big money contracts.

What is interesting about Ben is his ability to remain injury free.. he has only missed 14 games in 13 seasons, and even more remarkable only missed 4 games in the last 7 years of his career..

I don't really want to bring in a player who prioritizes his organs over football.
I remember back in my day, a guy would play with his spleen hanging out. You didn’t need “surgery.” You just needed a big set of brass balls and some smelling salts.

I’m not confident at all that Gronk is coming back. I’m also not confident that the team won’t approach him about his salary in the offseason, which could very well lead to Gronk retiring.
