Rapoport: Dolphins "focused" on Pats' DC Brian Flores

I didn’t realize he was around 14 years. Not sure the Harbaughs are the best example, though; the game has changed a bit. I’m sure Flores interviews well and I’ve read the positive stories, but what does anyone see in Flores’ performance that makes anyone think he’d be a great HC?
What about his performance?

7th in points allowed and one of the best secondaries in football are clear examples of his performance being just fine.

Secondary is Boyer basically. Not really seeing a big D improvement over last year are you?

So all the other coaches like Fears, Boyer or Daly are also getting raises to at least be somewhere close to Flores then ?

With McDaniels being so front and center and having years of experience AND a previous HC position you can kinda make the argument why he should be on a totally different payscale than most other staff members. With Flores you absolutely can't.

Fears, Boyer, Daly, O’Shea and Scarnecchia don’t have a team offering them a HC position. All of them know the score. What you make depends on the leverage you have.

I get that. But if other coaches make a couple 100k you can't give Flores a bump to 4m.

How his defense performs shouldn’t really matter. What should matter is whether or not Flores has the right skills, or at least the foundation of skill sets that translate well into his next role.

I sincerely doubt any of the guys we’ve mentioned are making $100k only. They are position coaches while Flores would be a coordinator. My original post said nothing about $4 million. The figure I mentioned was an average of $2.5 million. You could backload it also as it’s the guarantee and not the 2019 salary per se which would give Flores a financial incentive to wait for another, better opportunity.

I said a couple 100k. I would be surprised if some of them make more than 500-700k.

I don't see why you would give someone who has been your DC for one year almost 10x the salary of others. He has not done anything amazing that makes you think you can't just replicate it with the next coach up. Especially since it is mostly BBs defense anyway.

Not gonna miss him Flores would have better talent to work with in Miami on D anyway.

Also a rumor that Pees liked his booze and showed up with a cloudy head a couple of times the next day, and that there was a mutual agreement to part ways. Probably not true, but it sure made its way around at the time.

Was that rumor started by the same "guy" who claimed that Terry Francona was abusing drugs???

They probably do not have the same relationship with Chris Grier as he does, in the case of Fears (64) and Scarnecchia (70) both are a tad old to consider for a HC position..and maybe are content where they are.

Steve Belichick took over as safeties coach in 2016.

After week-7 @CHI, the defense has had two bad games: @TEN wk-10 (34 points), and @Mia in wk-14 (34 points). In the other nine games, they've allowed an average of 11.1 points. While they've certainly continued to have problems with the run-D, the pass-D and QB pressure have steadily improved.

Fwiw, I think the improved secondary play is mostly at CB. That’s why I mentioned Boyer.

They played some bad offenses: Bills twice, Jets, the dysfunctional Vikes. Count Miami and Tennessee, where they played poorly, those are 6 games against some of the worst offenses in the league.

They played pretty well against GB and Pitt. Not sure two good games is convincing enough.

New Head Coaches with LESS experience than Flores:
- Mike Vrabel last year
- Freddie Kitchens
- Zac Taylor
- Kliff Kingsbury
- Matt LaFleur

.

It depends on criteria, but at least three others have either more experience or similar, but different.

No matter how you look at it (except for extra credit for NE) Freddie Kitchens has more experience.

While Flores has more experience in the NFL, Kingsbury has six year's leading a team as college head coach. It's like being a governor, rather than US senator. You've run a team. Who is more experienced for President - a six year governor of Texas or a (maybe) first year senator?

Matt Lafleur has been offensive coordinator with two NFL teams.

More importantly these three have experience from the offensive side of the ball. Look at the teams that have the best chance for the title this year: Chiefs, Patriots, Rams, Saints. Offense is what is winning, so experience there should be valued more.

Flores might be the best candidate of the group, but he is not more experienced than all these guys.

Flores is making Caldwell his OC and Bielemea his DC.
Does that mean Daly or Schiano is our DC I hope it's Schiano.

Rapaport just confirmed Flores to Mia on NFLN...

and now he speculates Greg Schiano will make his way to NE. I'd like to give Brendan Daly a shot at DC.
