Ah yes, the 'surprise the league' Jete cycle. Here's how it goes:

Year 1: Bottom out with old HC/GM combo, 3, 4, 5 wins.

Year 2: Win Between 6-10 games (where most of the league is). Miss playoffs with new HC/GM after adding a few overpriced FAs who only signed with the Jets because they overpaid. Be called 'Team on the Rise' by sports media.

Year 3: Win between 6-8 games. Blame injuries. Draft picks bust and FAs stop caring because they've already cashed those paychecks.

Year 4: Win between 3-6 games. Start trading/cutting payroll for 'cap room next season'. Keep Coach/GM on because they work cheap, but claim it's for 'franchise stability'.

Year 5: Bottom out with old HC/GM combo, 3, 4, 5 wins.

Lather, rinse, repeat, for 10, now going on 11 cycles.

THEY hired. It's THEIR fault that they can't bring in people who don't suck. Whether or not they stay quiet is irrelevant. Leon Hess brought in Bill Parcells. THAT is hiring someone who knew what they were doing, and staying out of the way.

Of course in true Jete form even Parcells & Belichick could not overcome the stank and alter the inevitable fate of the Jete. Forever cursed to wander the wasteland of football futility by the gridiron gods. But hey, on a more enlightened note, even a doormat serves a purpose and we wouldn't want to appear unappreciative. They could be worse than 4-12. They've got the potential for 1-15, 2-14 with this roster, if they bring in the 'right' free agents in the offseason (Maybe talk Marshawn Lynch out of retirement, for example, at 3/15 all guaranteed).

Yes. I'm back from the game. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised the Jete took this game seriously and put up such a fight: They didn't mail it in -- they sucked genuinely. Although, Blockhead Boy Blunder Dam Darnit seemed much more interested in trying to keep his hands warm than playing quarterback (must be a California thing). On shotgun snaps he didn't take his hands out of his jersey front pocket until the ball was halfway to him. During pregame warmups, he moped around aimlessly staring at the ground, hands in pocket when not otherwise overthrowing receivers left and right. I must say his fumble for the Pats touchdown was perfectly executed, however.

Not many Jete fans at the game. A couple had really gross neck tattoos, what's up with that? Nothing says "unemployable" like a big neck tattoo and Jete jersey. One Jete fan moron left midway through the fourth quarter angrily giving the crowd and middle finger with both hands as he disappeared down the steps, but he should've been facing the field instead (or maybe the scoreboard).

I'm thinking in larger terms @Clonamery is right, there is nothing in the football universe worse than Jete stank. That should never be confused with their year to year 'ability' to discover either a lower low or to engage their baseless fans in additional false hope. I still can't help but think the Jete will someday give their inbred followers the feeling there's truly nowhere to go but up by gifting them an 0-16 season.
