No write-ins, not even a Ray Lewis option. There is a zero chance of someone else winning. All the Vegas books have these two neck and neck with no other competition, despite clueless blurbs from writers with their tunnel vision (Russell Wilson, Philip Rivers, etc probably will each get less than three votes). Feel free to discuss the terrible system where defensive players can’t win it in another thread because that isn’t the point of this one and Aaron Donald/Khalil Mack aren’t getting votes either.
The vote is about who you would vote for, not who you think will win (it’s about a 50/50 prop anyway.)
It goes without saying both players have very good, if not elite, supporting casts, since those are the ingredients that make up an MVP season for a QB. Brees protection, run game, Michael Thomas, and depth, and Mahomes explosive receivers Hill and Watkins, formerly Hunt as dual threat, and Kelce as a wide receiver (tight ends block.)

Mahomes
- 11-4, but getting #1 seed is arguably all that matters when it comes to win/loss record. In 4 losses put up 51, 4o, 31, and 28 points.
- Chiefs defense is horrendous. 27.9 ppg and one of the worst run defenses.
- Stats: 66.4%, 4,816 yards, 48 TDs, 11 INTs, 114.0 passer rating.
- 9.5 adjusted yards per attempt.
- Obvious takeaways: 48 TDs speaks for itself. Highlight reel making throws and escaping pocket all season, great mobility. Maybe the best arm talent the league ever seen. Though Brees’s completion pct. is 8 points higher, Mahomes adjusted net yards/attempt is .5 higher, which in the opinion is a more important stat. Mahomes is the most exciting player in the league, but there’s tremendous production play and results to go along with that.
- 13-2, #1 seed in NFC and best record in NFL.
- Saints defense ranked 8th in PPG and easily #1 in run defense. 21.3 ppg. This is a good defense though not as incredible as their reputation; a lot of it is contrast to previous years.
- Stats: 74.4%, 3,992 yards, 32 TDs, 5 INTs, 115.7 passer rating.
- 9.0 adjusted net yards per attempt.
- Obvious takeaways: I personally wouldn’t take anything but 2018 into account, but some may choose Brees in a tiebreaker for a career achievement award. His total yardage and lower touchdowns have to do with the Saints having big leads, a strong running game, and Brees taking his fooot off the gas into the 4th quarter (opposite of his career to date.) The best record in football, highest passer rating in football, and a better TD:INT ratio than Mahomes is a strong argument, and on top of that, looks to have his hands on completion percentage record (breaking his own.)
