Talking Team Needs 2019

I agree with most of your cuts, but I think we resign ot brown, flowers and gotskowski.

I still think we need a DT - (Lawrence of Clemson)
DE/pass rusher - (Ferguson of Louisiana tech)
corner opposite Gilmore - (love of Notre Dame)
2 linebackers - (Jennings and Miller of Alabama)
Offensive tackle - (Hyatt of Clemson)

I hope Belichick stops using the draft for playtime with his silly trades
and concentrates on drafting a few necessary defensive players.

I think we are looking at needs at:

1-defensive line(pass rushers, run stuffers, you name it, we could use it)
2- linebacker - when Elandon Roberts is 3rd on your depth chart, you need upgrades
3- safety- could use a younger stud safety
4- 0-line- Waddle hasn't been very good in the limited action he's had this year, Cannon is injury prone and Brown is a free agent
5- Tight end
6-QB- a heir apparent to TB we're going to need eventually.

I'm surprised you don't have WR higher on the list. We have Edelman under contract, and control Gordon's rights (presumably he'll re-sign here), but that's it for next year. That seems like a far more pressing need than some of the other positions. I'd probably put it at 2 or 3 on your list, depending on free agency. Bentley coming back should help the LB position. Obi could still pan out at safety. Etc.

Yeah, was definitely thinking about putting wide receiver on the list but I guess the optimistic girl in me thinks Gordon, Dorsett and Hogan are coming back.

He's an RFA next year, so there are basically three possibilities:
  • He's on the team next year.
  • He washes out of the league.
  • Someone else signs him, in which case the Patriots will get an extra first- or second-round pick.
They also have Braxton Berrios and Cody Hollister on IR.

Sure, those guys exist, and Darren Andrews, too. I don't think I need to say anything further. :D

Not sure where I’m leaning first pick? DT/DE seems to be well stocked this draft. Can definitely land a talent in the first 3 rounds and they need 2 dt’s and a de.

However really need a ILB and they may be able to get a really good one if they choose one late in the first. Guess it will depend on how the draft falls?

Good to see JC Jackson making waves to solidify the CB position. Also need a need for a safety in the mold of Chung as a replacement.

Belichick does not, as a rule, make trades simply for the sake of making trades. (Remember he canceled a trade with Houston when Malcom Brown became available.)

Well, uh, I guess we need at least two receivers.

There isn't 1 position we wouldn't draft bc we have someone already there.

You don't tell the draft what you need. It tells you. You see what it has to offer, see how the board shapes up & try to finesse the sh it out of it.

Big draft but I want picks in 2020. QB is everything & unless you really think Finley, Grier, Jones etc are it you pass & get some talent for when we do have a young QB or another final run w Brady.

I think we could be active in free agency this year.. got no idea what to expect..

I don't know if they can be very active in free agency except for one year contracts
for minimum salary. They have 20 free agents of their own with little cap space. They need the mother of all drafts to give them mega good young players.

Am I the only one who's having difficulty figuring out where BB is going with the DL? It feels like such a mismatched set of dishes at the moment.

I've always been a defense first guy. Once you've got your QB.
I wonder as the game changes if there's been a shift though. It
seems no matter how many resources you spend on defense it
still isn't enough to shut a team down when you have to. We're
not the only team in this boat. Look at the Rams. Heck, Jags
defense choked in every big spot this year too.

If you don't have the skill people to score, you can't win seems
to be the way this league is drifting. WR and TE are at the very top
of my wish. We're not going to become a very good defense. We
can become a very good offense again. Oh, I'd keep Trent Brown
and cut Cannon and Allen to free up the money needed. Gronk's
gonna retire and we can extend TB12 too. That would free up
a lot of cap space.

1. I'd try to trade for a WR. Cooks didn't work out. Is Mike Evans
available? My first is on the table.

2. There's a lot of talk about Noah Fant from Iowa. His
teammate TJ Hockenson is a better football player. I'd try to
move up in Round 2 to get him. Evans and Hockenson would
make things much easier for Mr. Brady.

They signed him to a six-year contract. Remarkably, there's no dead money for them . . . but his guaranteed salary for 2019 is $20M.

If they can find a rookie in the middle rounds good enough that they can trade away Hoyer, I'm fine with that, even if he's not the QBOTF.

Anything after the top 100 I'd be cool w that

this draft is loaded with defensive talent.

We have a chance to get several defensive starters.

We can use free agency to to secure some offensive skill players.
