Vikings at Pats re-watch thread.

They went away from Gordon early on because the Vikings were specifically focused on taking away everything that the Patriots were doing at the sticks. They concentrated on the short passing game as a response. When the Vikings adjusted to try to take away everything underneath in the second half, they went to Gordon.

And what people are kind of ignoring (not for the first time this year) is that the offense wasn't getting stopped as much as it was stopping itself. Gronk cutting across half a yard short of the sticks, that 3rd down direct snap to the RB, Edelman dropping a 3rd down pass, and the fact that the team really only had 4 possessions in the first have seems to have led to people getting a misleading impression of what was going on early in the game.

That's some vintage Rex Ryan ****.
BB used this against Bledsoe and Manning in the late 90’s. Moreso on Manning and lots of delayed blitzes on Bledsoe. He became a hot head coaching candidate during the ‘99 season because of the massive upset against the Pats in Foxborough and one of the only defensive coordinators that year that frustrated Manning.

I don't know what is hampering Gronk but he's just not himself- no way he gets pushed back like he does on this kickout if he really was 100%

I think he looked fine. The holding call was ticky tack and ridiculous.

That right there is the golden standard for how to do film review of a play. Explain things verbally, add in visual helpers to make it all easier to digest and then play the clip afterwards. Everyone watching it -- from the novice to the pro -- understands and maybe appreciates the design.

That is exactly the kind of content for here. Also, McDaniels had a great night.

but it also shows why i hate zone

you can have defenders just sitting there all by themselves while the other side of the field is hammered with multiple options repeatedly

True. But as we all know it is not like man coverage doesn't have its drawbacks. There are man beaters, zone beaters.. with concepts that incorporate both very often run at the same time on the two halves of the field.

Then you have the conditioning aspect where you simply can't play man the entire game and obviously you also want to switch it up often so QBs never get totally comfortable being challenged just by one thing.

Then you have the hybrid pattern matching schemes that take away some of the drawbacks of both but add communication and more complexity as potential weak points.

Beauty of football..

I love the mobile fronts! I wouldn't have anybody in a 3-point stance during an obvious passing down either.

Maybe the best pure hardcore X/O follow on Twitter (if you are a Pats fan). Dunn is amazing and talks often about Pats related stuff. He clearly really respects BB/McD.

James Light is another good one-

That "follow" route? That's actually the same Jet-sweep All-Go concept that Kansas City embarrassed the Patriots (and Jordan Marsh) with in wk 1 of 2017 (except the Patriots just used motion instead of the Jet-sweep pre-snap).
