Thanks to Some Help From The Broncos, Patriots Take Over #2 Seed With 5 Games to Go

Ian Logue

While the Jacksonville Jaguars couldn't help them last week, the Denver Broncos provided the Patriots a little assistance on Sunday as it pertains to their playoff hopes.

Considering how negative the feeling has been around here with some folks, the Pats are now in great shape.

- The Pats have the tiebreaker over KC (9-2) and need to only pick up one win on them in the last 5 games for the top seed. That's doable.
- The Pats have the tiebreaker over Houston (8-3) and only need to stay tied with them for the top seed. Also very doable. And in case Indy (6-5) catches the Texans for the AFCS title, we also have the tiebreaker over them.
- The Pats are ahead of the Steelers by a half game and there won't be any tiebreaker. Even if they lose to them they can jump back ahead with one more win than the Steelers in the other 4 games. Again, very doable.
- Things are looking pretty good.

Squealers are very average on the road.

Quick quesetion: next Sunday night the Chargers will be taking on the Steelers. Who do we, as Pats fans, root for? The Chargers have a better record, but we don't face them this year, so there won't be a tie-breaker implication against them, unlike with the Steelers.

Side note: week 16 will be critical to seeding. Steelers will be at the Saints, and Chiefs at the Seahawks (I'll be licking my chops).

there was a blocked FG in this game where someone tried to jump the line, but he landed on the long snapper.

there was no penalty.

im confused.

Chargers, who can at best get a wildcard spot. We need that first round bye

The Chargers still have a shot at the #1 overall slot.

That's not true. If KC loses 2 games (maybe as little as one game, if that one game is to the Chargers), the Chargers could take the AFCW. They're only 1 game (really 1.5 games since KC currently owns the H2H tiebreaker) behind KC.

Chargers easy. Not just for the bye implications for the Steelers - if the Chargers win their division and the Pats assumedly win theirs, the Patriots will not be travelling to KC for any potential rematch.

I'm pulling for Phillip and LA. I can't stand those steroids-tainted douchebags.

I called that Denver upset (back to back road games).
If they both stay healthy, I see Patriots and Steelers each losing only 1 more game this year (Pats losing @Steelers and Steelers losing @ NO).
I'd love to be wrong about this but I don't see the Chiefs losing another game this year. I think we're going to wind up being the #2 seed.

Root for the Chargers to lose, us to beat the Steelers and win out, and the Chargers to beat the Chiefs.

Rooting for Chargers. Steelers threat is higher because unlikely they lose their division. Then we could lose to the Squealers and if it's our last season loss, we still get HFA vs Steelers in playoffs.
Bolts can win their division but it's less likely. If Bolts win, they're situated to beat KC for the division.
They are a long shot for one seed.

I hate the Squealers but respect Rivers.
