I wanted to start a separate thread for this, because it's not really about specific prospects, more the idea of how the Pats will acquire them.

The way I see it, there are three likely scenarios:
  • Pats trade up to get a QB.in the near future,
  • Pats spend a year or two in the wilderness after Brady hangs 'em up to get their QB, or
  • Pats try to find another Garoppolo-like player with one of their "existing" draft picks.
Which of these do you think is the most likely to happen?

Great question.

I voted trade up in the near future for a flawed but talented prospect in the 10-15 range (recent examples Rosen, Mahomes & Watson). I can’t envision the team being bad enough to pick top 3-5 with BB in charge.

Another interesting angle is I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the team brought in an underperforming vet QB to one day revitalize with a second career. Someone like Mariota, Prescott, etc. down the road.

If Bill is here after Brady I definitely expect him to at least check out every available vet QB.

So many things come into play.

Who's coaching? If it's Bill again he might want a guy who's ready. Someone he knows, likes, is familiar w etc

New coach might want the prototype 21-23 yo guy who he can develop & teach. I know some dont want to believe it or pretend it doesnt but age matters. You're not drafting a 24 yo to sit for 4 years & take up after Tom.

I think 2020-2022 there will be a nice group of prospects so I anticipate that's when we'll make a move one way or the other.

I'd really like to get 2-3 top tier guys from 2019 & position ourselves for the following year by trading out for a 2020 1st

If Herbert stays in school, the 2019 qb class will be very thin. Teams will overdraft the qb’s in the draft and leave junk for us.

2020 will have several really good qb’s and at least one will fall to us.

So we wind up with a fromm from Georgia, he is someone that would excel in our system and Only need a year, maybe two to be ready to start.

I like Jordan Love but I think he is a 2020-2021 guy. I am hoping we don't overdraft a qb this year, this year should be a focus on defense (get some young blood on that side of the ball), pick up a new TE and couple WRs.

What about using a late round pick on steven montez? He's kind of a project player but he's got good size and arm strength and has worked under center. He seems to get better every year.

A late round pick that might be interesting is delvin Hodges from Sanford.

He broke Steve mcnair’s career Passing record this season.

It'd be worth it just for the potential of a preseason Devlin to Develin TD. :p

I've had a crush on him all year. He's been unbelievable but somewhat under the radar. I suspect that's bc his not eligible.

He's been dropping dimes every game & stepping up for the moment. Was talking about him & his arm in my thread. He has the chance to pass for 30, rush for 8, while comp 65+ & throwing almost 9 yards a clip.

I think it depends upon the coaching regime. I do not see Belichick ever drafting a QB in the first. He'd look for another guy like Garoppolo or Kirk Cousins in the 2nd/3rd round range. Maybe a Brett Rypien? Clayton Thorson? I have to believe this is the year they'll do it because the draft has several guys with lots of starting experience, good intangibles, and good enough tools.

If Belichick leaves, I can definitely see McDaniels (assuming he's the new HC) getting a blockbuster QB, and I could see him going for a more mobile guy again. He wouldn't go as unorthodox as Tebow, but I could definitely see him prizing somewhat of a dual threat, maybe a guy like Tua. Not sure where the resources would come from, but that's not in the immediate future either.

If Milton comes out and falls due to his size, I'd love to see the Pats draft him and groom him.

I'd love it if that were to happen. Kid is a gamer and can make every throw on the field and use his feet to buy more time if he needs to. He also has those Hawaii bloodlines. :)

So tua jr?

If bb can not wait until the 2020 draft to grab brady’s Replacement......
How do we feel about bb taking Tyree Jackson in the third round?

A year or three on the bench learning and I think he could be special in our offense.

I'd have durability concerns at the pro level. But as a pure blank canvas/work in progress type player that can sit for a few years, I'd be intrigued. I'd still like to see him play a full season, though.

You can prob scratch the possibility of Milton coming out after today’s injury.

I thought that looked dirty. But yeah, he’s going to need significant time to get back to being himself. He might come back to UCF for his senior year. Herbert went down with a shoulder.
