Duke Dawson Returned To Practice

I was hoping for Burkhead to come back. Dawson may not even end up seeing much time this year.

Tackling highlights are highlights. I’d say he’s average for a rookie in the NFL. He’s got strength and fluidity to take down smaller backs and WRs with ease but will struggle in the run game which can be expected. I would not consider him an elite tackler at UF.

Overall he is a borderline elite college DB but where he fits best I’m not sure yet.

Well, it looks to me, as a Carolina grad, that Duke Dawson could tackle Mitch Trubisky. Nobody else on the Patriots could. Yeesh.

Duke Dawson is a great name for safety and I'd imagine that's how Belichick evaluates his players.

It is a good "football name". Not quite as good as "Gronkowski", but still ...

Anyway, picking by the sound of the name has often been as effective as any other strategy I've tried when betting the ponies, so ....

Brock Osweiler ....... yeah that's a great footb......oh wait.

get pumped

Very alert/aware player. Seems to read the offense very well and anticipate. Confident, bordering on ****y.

Good adjustments/body control; good eye/focus for the ball on ricochets. Appropriately aggressive, for the most part. A bit of a gambler, but never seemed out of control. Got away with some contact that would probably get flagged in the NFL.

Very willing and capable square-up tackler - shows a lot of useful functional strength - but he'll need to be coached out of that dive-at-the-legs shyte. A couple of his tackles looked like horsecollars to me, but weren't flagged.

Good speed and agility, at least for the college level.

Doesn't he seem slightly small?

When Dawson was originally shut down for a hamstring injury, I thought that it might be a pretty bad one. The fact that he's back at practice now seems to indicate that moving him to IR was mostly a "stash play", and that the Pats believe he can contribute this season.

Where he'll contribute in coverage at first, and where he'll contribute ultimately - very possibly two completely different roles - is certainly unclear at the moment.

I'm guessing that Rowe's days on the Pats active roster are numbered, though. Probably goes to IR when Dawson is activated.

His college highlight reel makes him look like a "beast", but how many times have these beasts turned into JAG's in the NFL...

IR seems to be a silly status, if you are injured in the NFL why can't every injured player work their way back into the lineup after recovery??? Particularly as the NFL season of "attrition" seems more obvious every year...

I know Bentley was seen around practice, but he's not coming back to play football this year IMO. Bad injury.

I'm already working on my name draft for next season. Early leaders:

Lil'Jordan Humphrey
Hamp Cheevers
Tanner Farmer
Sheldrick Redwine

Patchick Jr won't best me this year!

Did JMac and DMac really have identical measurables in every category?

If on 9/7 it was asked when Dawson was eligible to play in a game how many who have said Week 10?

What is the basis for Week 10?
