So what can be done to fix this (1-2 start)?

It isn't about "talent" or a 1-to-1 replacement for the "deep threat". It's about having enough viable targets who can, collectively, catch passes at all levels - and then McD re-configuring the offense to optimize the use of those targets.

If the Pats had gone through Camp and into the season with just two of Britt, Matthews and Mitchell healthy - hell, if even one of them had been able to go - we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.
And we wouldnt have blown 80 mil on one player who couldnt get though a SB.

Great player sure but not at the expense at that cap charge. It just would have caused holes elsewhere or less depth and then there would be a slew of other things for people to complain about.

If Belichick can recover from this sorry state of affairs and make the playoffs, he will
be the greatest coach of all time regardless of the sport.
look at the division. This could be bbs worst team since 2000 and still win it easily.

Almost posted the same tweet

That's what you get when you play invisible Man or Zone... Patriots D is like that Texan O-Line that allegedly protected David Carr aka Air.:D

If the Patriots don't play any better than Sunday night, there aren't many teams on
the schedule they can beat. I expect Miami to beat the crap out of them, extending their lead to three games.

I see your point but I disagree. There’s only so many spots on the field. If we are 3 wide we have Hogan on one side, Edelman when he comes back in the slot, and that leaves 1 spot on the other side. Britt, Matthews, Mitchell, Dorsett, and Patterson do not command safety help every down: Cooks does. Cooks drawing safety help opened the field for Gronk, the underneath routes, and the RBs.

He was a great pickup for the Rams. You leave a safety back to help cover it gives Gurley more space. You bring the safety up you leave Cooks 1 on 1 for the deep pass. I know he got a big salary, but I loved what he did for our O. Hopefully Gordon has his head on straight and we get some of the same from him.

That really just isn’t how it works.

I expected snarky one line answers, anyone have anything insightful to say? That’s all I want to hear at this point

I honestly don't see a solution other than the correction of a lot of mistakes that are being made on both sides of the ball right now.

As for one liners how about this one? Truth can be cruel yet it is the only thing of value.

OK so if the Pats lose Sunday, what will they finish? 4-12?

The concept of a good fast outside WR commanding safety help, opening up the field for others, isn’t really new to the game of football.

I was talking about your description. No defensive coach in the world views playing defense like that.

None of those guys are even close to the talent that Cooks is right now. He was replaced but not by anyone close to his talent level

You know that Cooks just signed a $90million contract with $50 guaranteed, right? (Some teams have starting QBs on their rookie deals.)

Wish it was lol. Any team that has Dorsett, Hogan, and Patterson as wide receivers
is in big trouble.
Any team that has Tom Brady playing at home lols at your comment.

It doesn't matter. Some posters are like Felger in the respect that they think the cap is crap and everyone can be kept.

According to them BB could have kept Collins, Jones, Malcolm, DA, Lewis and Cooks while still being able to keep High, Mason, Cannon, sign Gilmore and give raises to TB and Gronk.

Watch- as soon as Trent Brown gives up a sack they'll be crying for Nate Solder.

Its almost like they think the NFL is the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox.

even with Jules back, it is one of the weakest in the league. Watching other games, it makes me sick how BB leaves Brady with so little. The best QB of all time and his coach doesn't give him anyone to throw to...
