Just me or defensive scheme seem way better?

I think the weather had a ton to do with new england’s Defense getting destroyed. This summer Our players were suffering heat strokes in New England , no way could they handle that Florida heat.

they were absolutely not ready to play Sunday and wanted no part of the Florida sun. They were gassed before warm up was done. They were burnt so badly by kick off, I saw little kids shooting fire extinguishers at our defensive players.

Our defense looked more lethargic than polar bears trying to swim the Amazon river.

Time to put this pathetic, embarrassing display of inadequate defense in the rear view mirror and move on to Detroit.

Boo hoo hoo blame the weather?

Check it out...what a mediocre defence on lb, db...hire some skill jeezus enough with the secondary and lb statue no namers...every game's like a friggin struggle to keep a lead!

71% of 3rd down attemps by Jax were successful...mediocre.

NFL Football Stats - NFL Team Opponent Third Down Conversion Percentage on TeamRankings.com

I'd love to see a stat with 1st downs allowed per drive!, I bet New England is in the top 5 over the last 10 years! Pathetic!

Can even look at this stat...total yards against per game NFL Football Stats - NFL Team Opponent Yards per Game on TeamRankings.com

Mediocricity.

Well well well...

You are free to ignore history if you wish. Many here have watched this team since the 70's (60's). Our record when the starting temperature is above 80 is not good. And for those who have come since Brady, Brady and Brady's offense also have a terrible record.

Sure, we can expect a team to be able to turn around past trends. We just shouldn't expect that to happen.

Whatever the Patriots are doing over the last 10 years, maybe some other teams should try it. They’re #3 in points allowed, half a point per game off #1.

I'm with you, ive been watching the pats since the mid seventies. I think the team went decades without winning a game down there. Most of those games were against miami, and even when the pats were a better team (last twenty years) they still had a hard time especially early in the season.

In addition, the patriots played against one of the worst offensive lines in football, and wasn’t will fuller hurt? Not exactly the greatest barometer to judge a defense.

Neither is 97 degree weather. Nor a game in week 2.

#2001 #2003#2014

This is true. There’s not much you can learn in September except for what needs to be drilled more. I don’t remember how many times I’ve fell for a vision of my own creation about the team and thought it was reality but then. Oh well. Remember the double slit experiment? Nothings even real till it’s viewed

The DL is part of the problem. When Flowers isn't on the field (injured or rotating out), it's an outright bad unit as far as contending teams go. Veteran busts/mediocrities and stop gap young players. Need high end DL play to hoist a Lombardi and this team has one guy who is above average and a bunch of guys who max out at average rotational player. Sorry but Malcom Brown, Adrian Clayborn and Danny Shelton are not high end pieces. They're name players but are often invisible or outright bad. Dietrich Wise and Adam Butler have flashed a bit but are rotational pieces who disappear more often than they flash.

Compare this line to the 2001-2004 or even 2014 lines and it's night and day in terms of overall talent. 2016 was similarly flawed but Branch/Long were better than Shelton/Clayborn and showed up big when it counted.
During Jacksonville's final TD drive at the end of the first half, on 1st/10 from the Pats 11, the DL consisted of Adrian Clayborn, Adam Butler, Keionta Davis & GeeNo Gruesome. The Jags ran up the middle for 7 yards. Clayborn didn't even try. Pathetic. Butler, Davis & Gruesome were blown off the LOS. Those 3 cannot ever all be on the field at the same time while a game's result is still in doubt, and GeeNo shouldn't be on the team at all.

I hear next week's game plan includes no injuries to the front seven. Long overdue.

I get what you're saying, and your point is valid. But, if you think the only problem with this DL has been health (and that's a general "you" that's not specific to you personally), you need lasik.

We have possibly the slowest group of LBs in the league.

Only Hightower should be a starter.

Yeah, it was a joke. We have "issues", for sho'.

Just enough with this thread already. It’s belichicks defense. He picks the guy to run his defense. I wish this would be closed. No offense OP. I don’t think it was a bad thread just think it’s run it’s course

No offense taken. If this thread were an object, I would have already burned it and buried the ashes (I did that to my iPad but then the thread just came back up on my laptop anyway.)

So refreshing to read a comment that so completely avoids hyperbole.

I’m so confident in this defense that I’m starting Matt Stafford over Carson Wentz on my fantasy team.

Hightower is a real problem right now. He looks like the slowest guy out there.
