Well, it looks like Kansas City has their QB

If the defense plays like they did yesterday, that will be a slaughter. Luckily Edelman will be back and we’ll have a few more games of tape on him by then.

I expect this defense to give up a big ton of yardage. Bend but don’t break that’s what they need. That’s why it’s essential to have an offense that can put up points:

Honestly, Andy Reid is a QB coach. He made Donovan McNabb into a good QB. He made Alex Smith in to a good QB and has made this kid into a good QB. I said it last year and I will say it this year, if the Pats don't win, I would love to see Andy Reid win a SB. Unfortunately, he wets the bed in the playoffs.

Their d looks worse than ours thankfully, and luckily our matchup with them is not till game #6 which seems to be around the time kc starts to fizzle and after Edelman has a game under his belt.

I agree the kid looks amazing though.

Donovan McNabb, #2 overall. Alex Smith, #1 Overall, Pat Mahones, #2 Overall

You're acting like these are scrap heap, no-talent, garbage QBs, that Andy Reid has somehow 'guru'd. The first two are a lot closer to Hall of Fame numbers than not.

LOLwut?

Smith has thrown 20+ touchdowns 3 times in a dozen seasons and over 4,000 yards exactly once. His first 5 seasons were utter garbage.

Go look at the numbers and compare them to Hall of Famers, and get back to me. I didn't say they were Hall of Famers, but they're not far off, either of them.

You want to give Andy Reid credit for coaching Top-2 talent? K. Kevin Kolb, how'd that guy do?

He’s basically what Dak Prescott and Deshaun Watson were in their rookie seasons, putting up great fanasty numbers.

Prescott was 13-3. Watson was 3-3 on a team that went 1-9 without him. What does “great fantasy numbers” even mean? Both played well enough to win games. With Prescott, however, many believed he was overrated because he played behind a very dominant offensive line, had lots of weapons, and merely had to hit open first-option receivers since teams were stacking the box for Elliott. Turns out they appear to be right that Prescott may not be able to carry a team. However, if you watch Mahomes and Prescott and conclude their talent level is even close, then I don’t know what you’re watching. Mahomes has been a straight up assassin. With his skills alone, I can’t imagine he won’t be a huge threat for years to come, barring injuries.

My point was like Prescott and Watson he put up fantasy numbers as a rookie and that more time is needed to evaluate if they are for real.

And? Most QBs taken in the first round are absolute busts and those taken overall as the 1st or second QB are almost all absolute busts. Alex Smith was a bust - Reid got stuff out of him.

Mahomes was #10 FYI, although point still taken.

But I also agree that while a coach certainly has an advantage when he gets high first round QB talent, it's not at all a sure thing that the QB will succeed. Reid's success with those three tells me that he's better than most coaches at making QBs great.

He's very talented. Physically, the most gifted passer Andy Reid has ever had.

He is not like Prescott because he doesn't rely on an elite offensive line or ground game, in fact Hunt hasn't had a 100 yard game yet. Mahomes' ability to continue attacking and actually win a shootout are something KC hasn't had in 15 years.

It is early though, but I see little comparison between him and guys like RGIII or Prescott. He lined up 5 wide against the Steelers and ripped them.

Similar to how Brady treats the Steelers

If only Andy Reid could coach the end of games, that team would be scary. Their defense doesn't impress, but Reid is an all time great play caller.

Yeah until time became an issue, then Andy revert back to chicken little mode.

I can’t even envision how we stop that offense with our defense.
It’s a horrific match-up. KC has one of the fastest offenses in the league. They’re built around speed. Our defense has no linebackers that can cover currently and Rowe has been a liability. Plus Mahomes can run too if he needs to so we will see the typical focus contain up front and heavy zone-based concepts (Cover-3, etc) in the secondary to keep their eyes on him on the off chance he scrambles. So he’ll sit there and methodically pick that apart until the defense gets the advantage of a shrunken field in the red zone and hopefully holds up.

We’ll have to score with them. Before Gordon, I wouldn’t too hopeful of their ability to do that. With Gordon, not only do I think we can score with them, but I think there’s a good chance we can ring up 50.

Mahomes is already showing some good skills at looking off defenders. He's creating space for his receivers with his eyes and with that gun and fast trigger of his, nobody is recovering in time.

He's going to be special.

Regards,
Chris

Harbaugh got stuff out of him before Reid did. He was very good his last two years in SF, lost his job due to injury, and Harbaugh (wrongly, I’d argue) decided to ride the hot hand and mercurial talent of Kaepernick. Short term win, long term loss for both coach and franchise.

I think “bust” is a bit strong for Smith. Bust is a guy who was never a productive player for any team, not just a guy who didn’t have an immediate ascent to greatness. He’s third-tier in a conversation involving Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc sure...but he didn’t play for a real NFL coach until he was 27, after which he’s posted a 70-32 record with a 95 QBR and a 134-43 TD/INT ratio. Generational talent? Of course not. Game manager? Sure! But then he’s King of the game managers. Absolutely could have won a SB if he’d been on the right squad.
