Sony Michel: Getting Ready

Gronk in 2012 was a calculated risk at the start of the playoffs, so it isn't comparable. For the most part, mid- and early-season injuries are treated more conservatively, so I'd expect the same here.
That’s still rolling the dice, which is exactly what that poster was saying BB doesn’t do. The injury in 2016 was not in the playoffs.

Good points on 2012 vs HOU.

2016? When the shuttled him out vs SF?
He clearly wasn’t right after that Earl Thomas hit and yet was back in there two weeks later.

Once again the neaurautics go from X’s & O’s to ICU’s when it comes to an injury. Let’s just see what the kid does when he plays. Block the Web MD site please

It's a different roll, not at all like the one you were responding to.

No it’s not. It ended up costing Gronk games into the next season and drove mistrust between him and the team doctors at the time.

That's been out there, but it's hardly confirmed or even consistently reported.
This is true and I hope for his sake the information is false. It sucks being so young and having a terrible long term prognosis due to injury.

You are confusing the second break with all the mishaps in the off-season.

A healthy michel makes this offense so much more potent.

A mickel at 80 or 90 percent, is not much of an upgrade over what we currently are.

Sounds like you answered your own question then.

No I’m not. The injury reports in 2013 included the forearm. Look, the original claim that I responded to was that Belichick “doesn’t roll the dice” when it comes to injuries. That’s one that clearly disputes that claim. I also included his 2016 injury for good measure. When it occurred is irrelevant. How measured the decision was is irrelevant. There were no qualifiers given. The team rolled the dice and it backfired into the next season. Now, if you want to make a counter argument that it wasn’t Belichick and was instead the team’s medical staff (which at the time was Gill), I would be more than happy to listen to that. That’s a counter argument that at least makes sense. But to toss in a bunch of qualifiers is nonsense and doesn’t zero to dispute my original point. The team did, indeed, “roll the dice” and they lost the bet.

See my last reply to Oswlek.

I think we can all agree that players only get to put on their uniforms if the medical staff clears them for contact. If Gronk was cleared for pro football then I don't see how playing him is rolling the dice. This is not a RG3 knee shredding situation.

If you want to go into BB/staff rolling the dice territory with Gronk then I would not look at those two instances but rather his usage on the field especially the seam routes. Every play that goes there is rolling the dice in my mind.

I think Gill told Bill and Gronk what they wanted to hear.

I envision 120 yds rushing and 7 catches for 80 yds and a td

It was pretty close. That was a bad break. I know you weren’t here at the time but there was a ton of doubt about Gronk being ready even on this message board. There were quite a few medical professionals (or at least those that said they were) casting doubt on whether or not they were rushing him back. Turns out they did. I don’t see any way a medical staff could clear Gronk when he broke it again as easily as he did. As RW said, I think they told Gronk and BB what they wanted to hear. The result was distrust between Gronk and their medical staff going into the next season. Gill would eventually be releaved of his duties after the scandal between himself and Armstead.

The big question of the day is should I start Sony Michel or Phillip Dorsett as my flex player?
