I’m happy with the overall game

@luuked - I want to apologize to you. I realized during the 3rd quarter that what you said about Allen could have been taken two different ways and I took it as meaning the negative since you had been saying that Special Teams had been bad to that point. I should have asked what you meant. Again, I'm sorry.

Doesn't matter. I was conflating the coverage on punting and kicking at some point so I was talking out of my ass as well.

ST had awful kick coverage. Not sure what this is about but it looked pretty systematic on every play so hopefully it is an easy fix.

As talked about in ST thread that was to be expected with significant turnover - not only losing core guys Ricahrds, Bolden M.Flowers but also bringing back rehabbing guys Slater, Ebner (seemed far from his best) without preseason. The new guys (Bentley, Roberts) looked a bit lost and JMC is like a player less there (as noted in preseason) schlepping on twin brother.. i dont know if thats “systematic“ but could need some time to fix it.

The problem is that busy and important guys with little depth behind them are playing these units (DMC, Chung, Burkhead..) and it looks like they will have to do that for some time further. But i fear that as long as JMC plays this unit it will not be as strong as it should be. And with Hill out they will need another ST body on most units.

More on this after rewatch in the ever popular ST thread ;)

I didn't see an aggressive d in terms of blitzing or trying to scheme guys open on stunts etc.
Will have to wait for the all 22 but we just won 1 on 1's today & were a lot of comfortable/prepared in game 1 than most anticipated.

I saw plenty of stunts and twists later in the game. However, being aggressive isn't just about blitzing or scheming guys open. It's also about how they attacked the pocket. They were regularly getting pressure on Watson with 4 guys and that is what you want. In previous years, the Pats would to more to just contain and leave the pocket clean for someone like Watson to have all day to throw..

Yeah maybe. It is just that it happened on every return that makes me wonder if its something systematic. If there was a high variance I would just chalk it up to the turnover of players and communication.

Well, like I said. I should know you better. Should have just asked..

Just remember that Brady walked to the locker room after the hit to his knee against the Chiefs and we know how that turned out.
So did Dion vs the Skins...

I'm just being hopeful. If he's lost I'll feel bad for him but the train needs to keep rolling

Don't forget they don't have Bademosi out there either. He was an excellent special teamer for the Pats last year. Really hate seeing him in a Texans Uni..

These are the games that BB loves because he gets to rip into players like Gronk and Burkhead about ball security and players like Harmon for being out of position. And he gets to praise the guys who are finally doing things right, ala Dorsett.

I hope going forward they don't put Rowe on the Goaline Slot receiver going forward. It's clear he hasn't learned the lesson about the pick that Butler won the SB for us with. He was beat last year in the SB by the exact same play. He's not shown he's a good fit schematically there.

Excellent game until the defense went to sleep in the 3rd quarter and McCarron muffed the PR.

Sometimes winning becomes too routine...

To put it in some week 1 context: the only team ive seen so far that looked prepared for the in-season football in all aspects of the game were 1st half Patriots..

Watt-Clowney-Mercilus is basically the best set of 3 pass rushers in the NFL & the OL stonewalled them for the majority of the game. I also thought the group paved some nice holes in the run game.

I'm nitpicking, but Brady seem to have played to minimize getting hit, I think a lot of him being mostly clean the whole game was scheme, quick/decisive action and GOAT power. But kudos to the OL as well.
