Talking Team Needs 2019

Cardona was re-signed thru 2022. The Patriots tried to sneak a punter on the practice
squad by not playing him in the preseason but Buffalo claimed him.

Forgot about Cardona. Good point.

I'm not 100% sure they were trying to sneak him onto the PS, though. MAybe he just wasn't good enough to earn playing time? I'm definitely intrigued by the position, though. I'll keep an eye out for punting mavens this college football season.

Flowers will be an interesting one to watch, as well. I like our young DEs, but this upcoming year looks stocked at that position. Perhaps we move on instead of paying him in the double digits per year? I'd love to see him here, though. Good young player who is still improving, and he has a great attitude and work ethic. Those are the types of players we should lock up long term.

I think the price for Flowers will be too high. This is why they drafted Wise and Rivers and kept Davis on the 53 man roster.

Very valid point.

Curiously we have maybe 10 de’s on the roster.

But except for Brady (at a nice discount, I might add), Gronkowski (at another discount), Hightower, Gilmour and now Mason, who else on the roster is worthy of a nice raise?
If it would mean being able to keep Flowers, then I would very seriously tell the McCourtys to either take a Massive pay cut or get the hell out.

The mccourty’s are so slow! We need to upgrade the safety position with playmakers,

So were 3 games in and I think our biggest needs are the following;

NT/DT - We need another Wilfork badly. The fact we can’t stop the run is not a good sign what so ever.

OLB/MLB - Apart from Bentley we’ve been poor in this area this season so far. HT looks like he hasn’t recovered from the injury.

Safety - D-Mac needs to take a pay cut or get cut. He’s simply not performing how I’d expect someone on his cap hit to play.

CB- we need a solid corner to build a partnership with Gilmore.

Offensive -

GIVE BRADY SOMEONE WHO CAN GET SEPARATION.

As of right now im not too concerned about wide receiver for the pats. I still believe once edelman comes back and gordon takes the field, defenses arent going to be able to key in solely on gronk. I know gordon is a wild card but teams are going to have respect his deep speed so it should open up short and intermediate routes. Add in edelman on top of that who is bradys usual number 1 target, players like hogan and dorsett shouldnt be covered by the defenses better players which I think will really boost the Offense as a whole.

Wouldn't Ridley look good in a pats uniform just about now? Instead we have Wynn, another soft Georgia product sucking up valuable injured reserve time!

So glad bb prefers broken down, often injured, soft, Georgia boys to a stud wide receiver that made a running back look good as a qb,

This is a terrible post in so many ways.

1)Wynn is & has never been soft. Ever. He wasn't injury prone at all, either. 1 torn labrum isn't even close to that. Guys get drafted all the time w the same or worse injury situations. Jon Allen didn't bench for a year bc his were so bad. Didn't stop him from going high & performing quite well so far.

2)You don't draft WR/RB Rd 1. Unless they're a transcendent player, Moss, CJ, Fitz etc you pass. It's proven every year, throughout the history of the game. You can get great value/players later.

Dont get me wrong i did truly believe that if ridley was in our offense he could be very good. Also, im not trying to take anything away from ridley but he is benefiting greatly from julio jones being taking a lot of the attention away from him. But when new england took wynn there was a ton of questions as to who would be playing left tackle for us this year and his postion versatility would allow him to kick out there if need be. Also, I think the pick was made partly in preperation if shaq mason did not resign with the team.

The following players are scheduled to be free agents in 2019: Banner, T. Brown,
Waddle, Dorsett, Hogan, Patterson, Gostowski, J. McCourty, Rowe, Flowers, Simon,
Brown, Shelton, and R. Allen. This leaves gaping holes at OT, WR, CB, and DT plus
a need for Brady's replacement, another good pass rusher, a punter, and kicker.
Bill will need to do a bang-up job in free agency and the draft.

TE2 needs to be addressed next year. Allen does a great job blocking, but doesn't offer much more. Hollister has flashed in preseason as a receiver, but his career stats are cumulatively less than an average Gronk game.

I'm still sad that we didn't take Kittle the year he came out. He has almost 400 receiving yards already this year (more than Gronk), and his blocking is exemplary, just as it was in college. I was so sure that he would end up here, just based on his overall blocking and athletic profile. That's one of my biggest draft regrets. Check this out:

Dude I've been meaning to hit this thread up w TE1 for a while. Dunno why I didn't but TE is a need for sure.

Gronk is gone soon. I have no idea why he's even playing now tbh. He could make as much or close to it selling products, appearances, hosting shows, just doing his own thing.

I think he's gone very soon.

George Kittle + Ben Watson >>>>>> Dwayne Allen & Jake Hollister, and probably cost less too.

We can't afford not to re-up Flowers and Trent Brown. You cut elsewhere; D.Allen, M. Cannon, D. McCourty, etc. to create more space. Need to keep those two.

We're going to need Wynn and Michel. They are both good players. But, we could have double-dipped on defense like 2012. When, we moved up to get Chandler Jones and Hightower. We could have moved up a little and gotten Derwin James and Rashaan Evans. Still bummed about not moving up for James. A top 5 talent who slipped.

Hassan Reddick could be that lb this defense lacks. If Arizona trades him, I'm sure BB
will be on the phone. A lb who can run is still our top need IMO. For about 5 years running:)

Looks like we'll be back at the DT trough. There are some very good prospects there.
Wouldn't mind trading up for the right guy. Guessing that's where our 1st goes.

Agree about the back-up TE. Would like to get that slot filled.

1. DT
2a. LB
2b. TE

I'll take a qb after TB12 leaves and we suck for a year. I know that's not the way
BB thinks. And, he's a heckuva lot smarter than me. But, it's my post.

You're always looking for secondary help, need some youth at WR/Return game
and a T to replace departed Cannon.

3a WR
3b CB
3c T

What are the updates needs at this point? Obviously still QB but WR has changed a lot in the last two months

WR looks good right now, but not many of them are on contact after this year. Likely spot for a trade or double dip.

This roster is paper-thin across the board, on both sides of the ball, and at every level.
Some needs are more acute than others, but no position is undeserving of an upgrade.

Yes, the roster is paper thin, but when you are picking 25 and lower most years and miss on a few second and third round picks, as well as almost the entire 2016 draft, those things happen.

The goal now is to use free agency and trades to rebuild the critical pieces of the offense while using the draft to re uf the defense.

Resign brown and Edelman on offense, sign a few free agents to fill in depth.

On defense, fill all three levels with quality picks.

This is not rocket science.
