I haven't seen anything to be impressed by in McCarron as a receiver.

If they really want a dedicated PR, they could always bring in Bernard Reedy again. Otherwise, I was hoping they might claim Travis Rudolph (he looked really good in pre-season last year; less so this year) or bring in Brian Quick.

You have to admit that the offense took a step back at receiver (minus Cooks, Amendola and (temporarily) Edelman, plus Patterson) probably tackle (minus Solder, plus Brown) and possibly running back (not sure about Michel -- are Michel and Hill better than Lewis and Gilislee?) On the other hand, getting Hightower back is huge and the defensive line looks to have upgraded.

Overall, it's just another season for us spoiled fans to look forward to with optimism.

The problem is that the big names have access to information that small guys like you don't have that adds context to a lot of things that are happening beyond the tape.

But at the same time this also means that sometimes teams feed misinformation to the big names in an attempt to mislead their competitors. Which is something that the "amateurs" don't have to deal with as their analysis is based of tape (and measurables) only.

No matter from where you look at it.. the whole thing remains a big puzzle.
W/e info the teams have & they absolutely do have more. I just don't believe it's a ton. It certainly isn't helping them.

There are plenty of "amateurs" that can do this, that aren't affected by mocks/services. I've never been influenced or paid for services. There's so much info out there that in this day & age it's crazy to think only a few can actually do this. It's a small % but I'd trust more than a few "amateurs" including myself.

Please go back and read what I said because I don't believe you truly understand it.

The only teams that don't use the Scouting Services in the NFL are the Falcons, Patriots, and Titans. The rest of them use them. And if you think that those services don't affect the Draftniks like Mayock and McShay, then you are fooling yourself.

Tell me something. How do you develop your initial list? Do you actually look at EVERY person who declares for the draft? Or do you go to the "Top 500" and start from there? I can tell you now that the likes of Kiper, Mayock and McShay don't watch tape on all of them and they do get information from the Scouting Services..

I've been involved with high level sporting programs and coaches/administrators for the majority of my life. As much as fans like to think they know a thing or two, the reality is they haven't a clue when compared against industry professionals and the resources available to them.

We may scratch the surface of level 1, these guys and gals are deep into level 300's abyss.

I don't see how IZZO is a surprise if they are waiting to place him on the IR so he can come back later in the season.

Ryan Hannable Speculated that Sony Michel could be headed for the IR.

Duke Dawson is someone who people haven't seen in awhile and he could be headed to the IR since he was last seen on lower fields and not in any game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Davis cut tomorrow afternoon or Monday to bring back an OT and send Davis to the PS.

He said he was going on IR. He speculated on a move resulting from that.

I wasn't talking Kiper, Mayock & McShay. I respect what they do but they care more about where a player is going as opposed to how good a player is at this stage of the game.

I already have a good idea of who's eligible from following these guys since high school. And I work off of list that amateurs, like myself make up. I don't rely on on big names whatsoever. We're always ahead of those guys & anyone that pays attention to the draft knows that. Again we do this 24/7 while they come along when the actual season starts & draft time.

I mean Mel just had Christian Wilkins in his top 5 lol? Wilkins isn't going top 5 this year, last or any year. They pick names & are more worried about making sure the get names right in the 1st round.

I mean John Gruden & Bill Polian would have taking Johnny Football in the top 5. I had him as 3rd Rd pick. There are some w a history to back up the fact that we could absolutely do this & actually have been better than most.

Talking to people a lot smarter than me about this & they absolutely agree.

If you've ever really talked to any scouts & coaches out here they're constantly & consistently preach how "simple" the game is.

Great. You'll have no problem creating the right connections then having a meaningful NFL scouting career. After all, it's that easy.

I get the impression that you have a lot of time on your hands... never understood as a Pats fan how anyone can be that invested in the Draft process as BB does what he wants to do, based on his and his staff's impressions..

Have read snippets over the years that when Ivan Fears is evaluating a prospective RB, he really works them out so much so several prospects have said it was the most intense workout they have ever had preparing for the draft.. one of the ways the Pats do things.

Always thought the whole draft process and the prognosticators has blossomed into billion dollar industry, almost to the point where what happens on draft day is secondary to the actual draft.. As Snoopy said, "The anticipation is greater than the actual event"..

The NFL has been masterful in trying to make a 20 week season into a 52 week event... and the marketing, predicting and the draft has been helpful in that venture...

Nah I'm good. I have no interest or desire to run around the country, getting paid sh it money for the most part. I'm doing just fine grading players the way I do it.

Well there goes one of those developmental players. I was actually a bit intrigued by him after Lazar did a mini dive into him yesterday. Maybe something for the practice squad.

EDIT:

Nevermind then. That clears up things.

If Darboh is waived, clears, and is IRed, can he become eligible to return after 8 weeks?

I think so.........? The situation would be no different that any other player that is IRd

Interesting situation with Darboh.
Did he officially clear medical eval before signing? Or is there some sort of pre-existing condition clause?

Do the Patriots want another player on IR on the salary cap?

Presumably he was not injured in Patriots practice. They claimed him. They did not sign him. There is a difference.
Because there is a potential wait list for players you have to have a roster spot available. But not sure how medical clearance works here.

Looks like the answer is Yes...sort of:

Still doesn't answer the eligibility to return question.
Yea I don't know if there are any caveats to the rule.

From the NFL Cuts thread:
Also worth pointing out that, since he was on the 53-man roster, he's eligible to return in 8 weeks.

Even is he doesn't, the Pats start the 2019 off-season with a young WR already under their control through 2020. His 2018 cap cost is $578k, minus whatever his injury-split may be.
That should answer our questions. I hope his surgery is more clavicle-related that it is hip-related.

Do the Patriots want another player on IR on the salary cap?

Darboh's "healthy" salary for 2018 is $578k. His cap hit on IR, after deducting the "injury split" is probably only about $450k or so.
