And he will always be known as a Super Bowl Champion with the Patriots. Sorry Jetes.

Really had a rough end to his career with that little stunt in KC.

But at his peak the guy was a glitch. No CB has played at a higher level over the last decade than Revis at his best.

I didn't expect him to dedicate his entire career to the Patriots organization but I am mildly surprised that he didn't even mention that he won a Super Bowl in that announcement.

If it makes you feel any better, he didn't even mention the team that helped make him filthy rich and a HOFer.

I didn't say anything about the Patriots not being mentioned, but I feel like if I won a Super Bowl I'd mention it as a high point of my career. Wouldn't even have to say the team I got it with. It never really seemed like he cared about that stuff much though. I think he joined us to get a ring, but only as a means to make himself more desirable for a monster contract (and it worked).

The highpoint of his career (beyond oodles of cash) was apparently "... passion to play the game at an elite level brought fun and excitement to the term “shutdown corner” which was nearly on the verge of extinction." Mevis at his self absorbed best. In his prime the guy was as good as there was, the only thing that outstripped his talent was his greed and narcissism.

A future HOFer no doubt. He really was never the same fully after his injury though.

As much as I appreciate the heartfelt announcement I need to admit it rings somewhat hallow. I am sure he felt many emotional highs and lows with teammates, coaches and fans. I am very position he has made memories he cherished and they he enjoyed the game.

But when a guy worries about the highest contract he will get and nothing else; it doesn't automatically put a lie to all that, but it puts a caveat to it. Yes all those thing mattered to him but the money always came first. There is nothing wrong with caring about money and trying to get a great deal. That makes total sense.

But if you could take 14M a year to play at some random spot or 13M a year and play with your friends for 5 years it shows what you truly value.

For some people (many I know personally) they have actively chosen to take less money so they have more time for friends, families and get to work with people they like every day.

No one is saying you have to do that. But if you don't it does show that you value money above other things in your life. That doesn't make you a bad person of course and not everyone makes enough that they even get to consider anything but taking the highest amount. I am not talking about those cases.

Many of the things Revis talks about in this statement are things he didn't value as much as money and that is proven through his actions. It doesn't mean he didn't value them to degrees but it makes me believe in part his comments are disingenuous.

Was effectively retired once he left the Patriots. Good on him to secure some more $$$, especially from the JETS. He'll be in the HoF, maybe nor first year but wouldn't be surprised if he was.

Exactly. He's more proud about having brought back shutdown corners to the NFL than he is of winning a ring. I guess it's valid but also surprising.

Great player and the ultimate mercenary. I don't think he actually cared much about winning or losing other than how either one affected his bottom line financially.

This gloating newspaper cover didn't age terribly well.... if I am not mistaken, this upcoming season is (i.e. would have been) year 5 of the above mentioned 5 year deal...

This is actually some really smart PR. You do not want to hurt the feelings of Jet fans by mentioning the SB and Pats. You do not want to insult Patriots with a mentioning of the SB but not the team's name. And the yr he had at Buccaneers should just be ignored.

And there you have it; Mevis, the anti-Brady

Why would he interrupt a statement about how great he is in his own mind with reference to a team success?
