Rumored trade offers for Gronk

You hit the nail on the head. We had two SSs, there were cheaper alternatives at FS to pair with harrison. But I wouldn’t call him washed up, after moving to buffalo and back to SS he still had a few productive seasons.

Milloy would've been the weakest link in the entire secondary. He was a mediocre player when he was released.
When BB got Rodney, we all wondered how it would work with 2 strong safeties. Milloy was now way too slow to play fs. BB experimented in preseason with 2 split safeties, rather than the traditional fs/ss , probably to cover up Milloy's weaknesses. Milloy looked slow as **** as I recall that preseason. I had been expecting his release. The experiment didn't work so BB cut him loose. Too many Pats fans way overrated him, he was a below average strong safety at the time and Harrison was as good as it got. BB was obviously proven right.

I agree with everything you said but Harrison was thought to be "washed up" when SD let him go.

He was coming off some injury-plagued seasons if I recall correctly. Yeah, San Diego thought he was on the downside.
He sure as hell proved them wrong.
But Milloy sucked in 2002 and in 2003 preseason. I wasnt shocked in the least when he was released.

Belichick used right safety and left safety the majority of his career. He did change that until recently around the time he moved McCourty to safety.

Well, I wouldn't call it "recently" when he moved dmac to s. Been a few years. But I didn't recall BB using the split safeties before that. Your memory is better than mine.

I remember because it was a big message board discussion issue. Like the can a guy go in pup after practicing all camp is now.

The reason Gronk has not been traded was because Brady found out and blocked it from happening (as I predicted). After winning 5 super bowls and Jimmy G gone, Brady runs this team until his play drops off or retires. This all comes back full circle to how Brady's friend Milloy was released and Branch traded which were the only examples I can think of that Brady was known to be mad about. Brady will not let that happen again.

It must be great to be so in with the team that you know all their secret thoughts.

He was brought in to team up with Milloy. But Milloy obviously didn't do well enough at FS for BB to keep him on his salary so he was released. Because if that were the case as you state above, Milloy wouldn't have been released a few days before the season.

That was a farce. Would have been the slowest two safety combination in the league. They played the same spot.

You don't have to be in the "know" to figure out trading Gronk would be stupid for Tom Brady at any stage of his career, especially now. It's pretty obvious.

How was it a farce? If it was, Milloy would've been cut when they signed Harrison.

Yes on Law but Milloy was released more due to his play and that they already signed Harrison. We were all excited to see two of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL team up and light up the field when WR's came across the middle. Apparently BB didn't like Milloy's play and cut him.

Popular player especially with the team. The timing was brazen, but BB did not care who he upset. So, I dont buy into the notion that Gronk cant be shipped out of town just because he is Gronk.

Usually we're on the same page but Kelce is not even close to Gronk. He is a "wannabe Gronk" as Von Miller has said. Nobody can take over games like Gronk can.

Their numbers are virtually identical for 2017 and Kelce has been consistently good throughout his career. Kelce is a beast who is not playing with a HOF QB.

Kelce is a good blocker, but no where near the blocker Gronk is. Gronk has better hands. Gronk has ~7600 career yards and 76 TDs, Klece has 3900 yards and 22 TD, They call Kelce baby Gronk for a reason.

Kelce is also kind of a tool bag.

I just want to understand.

You think that brady is so committed to playing beyond 2019, that it isn't possible that 2019 will be his last year, and he would have a league tour, having one last shot with the patriots?

I agree. All the signs point to this being Brady's last year. I'm ready for it. Brady should have another good year. Taking off the voluntary OTAs was a good move - he's played more pro football than anybody on the team. I wish Edelman was going to available to start the season, but his suspension takes some wear and tear off his body, so that's okay, too.

Arguably, QB is the weakest grouping on the team - a rookie, a 41-year-old hinting at retirement, and a middling veteran back-up. My hunch is that the Patriots bring in another veteran QB between now and week 4. There's no rush, really. There are a lot good QBs in the league, many on teams with multiple backups. A trade or a FA pick up once the cuts start can strengthen this year and 2020.

Top of the list is Brady's change in off-season practice and lack of participation in voluntary OTAs. The Oprah interview and clear signal about being away from his kids. Giselle's increased media presence and concerns about concussions. He's 41. The increased promotion of TB12 and Tom Against Time setting up a post-career business.

So much of what he's doing is less about football. I have no problem with that, by the way. The man has done more for football and this franchise than anyone I've ever followed closely. I hope he walks away on his terms.

And you know what? Looking at this year's roster, he has a good shot at going out on top. That would be the way to do it.

I don’t see how any of those things point to this being his last year. Aside from the non issue of OTAs he is doing nothing different than he has ever done.

I mean when he keeps saying otherwise chow can “everything point to” the opposite of what he actually says?

I could understand thinking there are things that could make you wonder if the day is getting closer, but saying everything point to this being his last year is hyperbole.

I totally agree with your second paragraph. But wonder why you question his promoting other activities when it's perfectly natural for anyone in his shoes to look at life beyond his playing days.

Disagree with most of the rest. He's made it pretty clear wants to "play until he sucks" more than once. I doubt it's until he's cuarenta y cinco. He's got 2 years left on his deal. Some feel the off-season issue is multi-issue: He wants an extension, along with the Guerrero issue. Plus as he has said numerous time he wants to spend more time with the family.

I can only remember "Dr Gisele' mentioning concussions once that he "has concussions every year". Something his dad said isn't true, the team didn't diagnose and she's hardly in position to. She seemed like a wife concerned with her husband getting hit and doesn't really know what a concussion is.

I do agree they have a good chance at this year...

Agree on Gronk. BB wanted Harrison but had a public relations problem. Milloy had been a captain at one time. He probably would have held on to him at a lower salary, but I don't think he was disappointed when Milloy bolted Some mind reading of my own

I wouldn't trade Gronk for anything but he's being paid from a contract that he signed of his own free will. I expect him to honor that commitment or not play at all.

Btw, I wish folks would spare me the "spend time with his family" talk about Tom Brady. I'm pretty sure that he has spent far more time with his kids than most 40 year olds and will most likely continue to do so in the future.

Ya I'm sure if I left the house early to go to work and came back late 7-8 months of the year 6 days of the week, my wife would consider that being with the family. They don't spend a lot of time with the families from camp through as long as they are active post season.

7-8 months with long hours is much better than 12 months with long hours, which is what everyone else does.
