Looking around the AFC, it struck me that the Jaguars drafted two outstanding defensive rookies - DT Taven Bryant from Florida in the 1st round followed by S Ronnie Harrison from Alabama in the 3rd round to join a tough, young, successful defense that made it to the AFC Championship game.

Jacksonville Jaguars' 2018 draft: Analysis for every pick

Blake Bortles took a huge step in 2017. He was cool under pressure in the playoffs, and made good decisions against the Pats. The Jags are on the rise while other traditional AFC powers are in transition or fading.

I'm not particularly impressed with our traditional nemeses - Steelers, Broncos, Ravens or Colts. The rest of the AFC South is pretty tough and made changes, but the best of that bunch is Tennessee right now. Andrew Luck is a wild card. Who knows how that will work out. The Jags have the defense to deal with all of them.

From what I see, the Jags are our chief concern in the AFC.

Its still the Steelers.

You go by QBs. I believe that Jax will still be very good and that Coughlin is doing a hell of a job building that team.

I think it's going to be Houston. Jacksonville should still be good but I think a second year Watson will create a juggernaut.

Could also be the Steelers.

All I know is it will 100% not be the Raiders.

It's hard to say at this point when the teams themselves aren't even sure what they have but with a healthy Watson Houston looks tough.

Marrone and Coughlin came in and changed the culture, but that team was built by Caldwell's solid drafts before those two even came aboard.

Yep, depends on how quickly watson comes back to full speed from injury.

And if Watt ever will. I think he's done, personally. That many injuries to the back for a guy that has to regularly take on double teams is a recipe for disaster.

Steroids will do that to you

Maybe, they might be great this year. But they've had all of one good season since forever.

Teams not named the Patriots need everything to work out to be good it seems, e.g., draft picks work out, avoid injuries, etc.

The Chargers are a team I’d watch. They absolutely hit it out of the park getting Derwin James. They have a very stout defense (secondary is loaded), and an offense with an experienced vet QB throwing it to a WR core with strong depth.

Sounds good but its the Chargers at the end of the day :D

Almost every year I look at the Chargers and expect they will establish themselves as a team to reckoned with and maybe even contend, yet somehow it just doesn't quite happen.

I will give them that they actually finished i th a winning record last year. Their 9-2 finish was a drastic improvement.

It has to be maddening to be a Chargers fan watching the clock wind down on Rivers, all 15 of them must be incredibly frustrated.

They will revert back to the 8-8 range this year. How they handle that, and what the front offices next moves are will determine whether they bounce back as a contender or languish in mediocrity.

Just keep in mind, everyone, that this is coming from the same guy that said the Pats would blow them out.
