Based on what happened with the Jet tape, I think Mr Kraft should not allow all the material requested by the Commish to be turned over. He did not just ask for the tapes but all their notes related to any tapes. Goodell obviously can't assure the security of those materials. Give them the tapes but that is it.

Bump for this one. I'm not sure that's an option at this point (either with God-less-dell (and *another* $500K fine) or the self-appointed court of public opinion (see! see! They're *hiding* something!) although I wish Mr. Kraft would tell the SOB to go pound sand based on what happened with the other material. My concern is that the notes will be leaked and some secret akin to that baked bean commercial where the recipe guarded by Duke the dog will be leaked and some of BB's game prep magic will be out in the open.

I think Mr Kraft has a good case for not turning over the coaching staff's work product. The tapes was leaked within a couple days, how many people could he have given it to at that point? If video had to be distributed, why were they not coded in a way that could be identified? How can assure the Patriot it won't happen again.

Goodell has seriously damaged the brand of the Patriots and the NFL over non critical issue. The hit dollar wise to the NFL is in the millions of dollars at this point and the longer the Sunday and Monday night games only talk about this issue the worse it gets. If the Patriots win the Superbowl this year, it will cost the league in the 10's of millions of dollars.

It has taken on a life of it's own and their own talking heads half the time don't even know what the allegation was. Listening to Mike Ditka go on and on about how wrong it was to put a video guy on the Jets sideline was crazy. I know he is getting old but he was not the only guy. Calling it "spygate" as everyone is now, only perpetuates the video was standing behind the Jets bench.

Can you really have "spygate" in front of 60,000 fans? "Videogate" I can understand, but there was no digging through garbage cans. I actually heard the idiot Jim Gray equate it to Nixon breaking into the Watergate hotel

I think you have a point here. If you are going to send it to the Goodell's office and the comp comm you might as well post it publicly because it is going to get out there anyways.

The Patriots already got in trouble for this, so to me it seems he's just trying to make sure they don't have these tapes for later use. I don't have a problem with the Pats handing over material, however if it's true that this stuff got leaked w/o Goodell's permission, he needs to provide some guarantees (i.e. listing who will have access to the tapes, and securing the areas where the tapes are viewed/stored) before the Pats hand them over.

I would be more concerned about the coaching notes that go with the video, than the video itself. The video will show whatever it shows, but the notes I would assume go into how the Patriots prepare for opponants, especially the opponents that are on the comp comm.

IMO it's a calculated move by Goodell to get some breathing room from the lynch mob AKA Competition Committee AKA Bill Polian. Ok, so if the Pats turn over a ton of material, it will take time to review -everyone understands this. In a few weeks this will be forgotten and nothing will come out of the "investigation".

The Pats were tried and penalized swiftly for the Jets incident. This new "investigation" is just throwing a bone to those in the league who think the Pats' success over the years is bogus. Plus a lot of people thought our punishment was a slap on the wrist so this takes the heat off Goodell for a while. Silver lining is that no further punishment will come out of this, so nobody will be able to doubt the legitimacy of our success. Believe me, the last thing Goodell wants to do is keep this on the front page forever.

Remember that Goodell has never acknowledged that the Pats have gained a competitive advantage in the Jets game and he won't be able to for past games. He is just coming down hard on breaking the videotape rule. Which is all we did, break a rule.

If the Pats hand over the tapes and continue to dominate, the lynch mob will have run out of excuses to tarnish our image. Believe me, in time the Pats will come out looking like victims because the lynch mob will go to far - maybe it already has. You can't arrest a guy for shoplifting and then implicate him in a bank robbery.

"Standing up" would be futile. It's the NFL and the Pats play in it.

Having been nailed with the camera we're not in a position to say no. But I agree with others who say that the leak of the video means we demand from the League that these items are maintained securely. In fact they probably should be delivered and reviewed only with a member of the Pats organization present. I can't even begin to imagine the competitive harm that would be done to the Pats if 7 years worth of film and notes slipped into the wrong (think Polian, Tannenbaum) hands.

I hope you're right. The intent could also be to rehash all this material with

the competition committee and find enough evidence to permanently ban

Bill Belichick from the NFL. I hope Bill has a good lawyer.

I just had another idea on how to handle this.

Tell Goodell, Sure, we'll send you the stuff you want. But we are going to put 2 security guards on it 24/7 so that nothing like the copying happens again. And, we'll send you the bill for it.
