So, at what point is it worth worrying about reliability in the kicking game?

Not something to really worry about when your offense looks like a juggernaut, but the reality is that the ability to nail 40-49 yarders in difficult circumstances is where an awful lot of games in the National Parity League are eventually won and lost.

Our kicker is now 2-5 on kicks of this distance in his career, and he missed a few under 45 in preseason. I know that these kind of posts often get shouted down as chicken little like, but I'm really not filled with confidence in our kicking game yet. Anyone think BB is going to bring someone in to have a look?

He hit the 54-yarder that counted.

What about the holding? Perhaps that's an issue....?

here we go...thank God the pats players dont have this redsox...boston attitude..and they are used to being winners and the best.

I am not quite worried at this moment, it appears we will not need the game winner, but if we did, I would worry. Who was doing the holding? That can be a big factor. If we can't hold, we are wasting the best long snapper.

How about his kickoffs? May be the best kickoff man in the NFL.
Young kickers miss some kicks, and typically improve. I dont see anything other than some inconsistency which seems normal due to inexperience. I think thorughout this year, it will correct itself.

From all I can read, he has a true competitor mindset. With that mindset, he will do anything it takes to be the best he can be. It will take time for him to get there. Just be patient.

2-5? What does that mean? It's not made 2, missed 5.

I have him 3-3 on kicks over 40 yards. He made three and missed three.

Even if you mean 2 FOr 5 not 2-5, it still isn't right.

He has made one half of his 40+ yard kicks.

Vinatieri made 2 out of 3 in his career at that distance. But he only made 9 out of 16 his rookie year.

Looks like our guy is right on track.

2 for 5 on 40-49. But you're right that he has made 1 of 50 plus, which I should have taken into account.

I think 40-49 is a much better comparison of kickers when you have enough information than taking the over 49s into account, since everyone misses at least half of those. The 40 to 49 yard kick is where many games are won and lost. Our guy is 1-1 on over 50, but you know that won't hold up in the long or even short term.

Vinatieri is nearly 75 percent in 40 to 49s for his career. I think the league average is close to 70 percent. It is often where games are won and lost. I doubt 2 for 5 is anything close to enough information, but he missed some in preseason too and I'm just wondering whether BB will bring anyone else in for a look at any point to get some healthy competition in there.
