2018 mocks

Im not sure Mayock knows/cares that Pats got Croston last yr and Thuney, Karras the year before, extended Andrews..

I could possibly understand one OL pick in 1st - G+T or G+C . but two #1 OL picks in this class borders on senility..

I've mentioned the possibility of a tackle guard draft several times recently. I think it's far more likely than EDGE linebacker. Mason will command a fortune in FA next year. Andrews is a good not great young player on a very team friendly deal. Croston and Karras are fine depth, but I would prefer that we never have to see them in actual games. :)

The same was said about Cannon, Waddle, Fleming, Kline etc etc. I for one didn't/wouldn't mind seeing Croston, Karras in actual games. Id be OK with more OLs since it is Dantes last year(s) but not at both #1s..

Totally agree. Mayock's prediction for the Pats 2nd 1st round pick is a nonsense IMO.

I don’t agree. Daniels is perfect for this OL. In terms of his get off at the snap, he’s arguably the most athletic OL I’ve seen and he gets to the 2nd level like a RB. If you were to design a zone blocking iOL, Daniels would be what you end up with. His one weakness is that he’s susceptible to the bull rush but aside from that, in our system there’s little to fault him. I didn’t think of interior OL as a need and hadn’t studied centres up to now so was surprised by the pick. Afterwards though, I did some work on him, and now I’d be very happy with the pick. He has the potential to be a top 5 center in the NFL and an excellent Mason replacement if that’s what is needed (I hope not).

Its Draft Day! I might as well post my only mock(s) of the year.

Top 43 Mock Draft

Round 1

1. CLE- QB- Josh Allen- Wyoming
This comes down to Allen vs Darnold vs Baker and the talk is John Dorsey prefers the big arm QB

2. NYG- QB- Sam Darnold- USC
The Giants keep saying they are committed to Eli but I think it would be a massive mistake not to take a QB with this opportunity. Darnold is arguably the top QB in the draft so they have to take him.

3. NYJ- QB- Baker Mayfield- Oklahoma
All the momentum seems to be Baker to the Jets

***TRADE: CLE trades 1(4) + 2019 4th to BUF for 1(12) + 1(22) [Points:1835-1980]***

4. BUF (from CLE)- QB- Josh Rosen- UCLA
With Denver a possibility to take a QB at #5 and Miami a threat to trade up, Buffalo has to move up here to get the last of the 'big 4' QB's. Cleveland is in a good position here to move down for a premium with multiple teams likely interested in this pick.

5. DEN- DE- Bradley Chubb- NC State
With the top 4 QB's gone, Denver goes with the best defensive player available.

***TRADE: IND trades 1(6) + 4(104) to Cle for 1(12) + 2(35) [Ponts:1686-1750]***

6. CLE (from IND)- RB- Saquon Barkely- Penn State
After moving down from #4, Cleveland uses some of its draft ammo to move back up for arguably the best player in the draft.

7. TB- DB- Minkah Fitzpatrick- Alabama

8. CHI- OG- Quenton Nelson- ND

***TRADE: SF trades 1(9) to BAL for 1(16) + 2(52) [Points: 1350-1380]***

9. BAL (from SF)- QB- Lamar Jackson- Louisville
This may seem like a reach but Baltimore makes a strong move to trade up and get their QB of the future, jumping ahead of Miami and Arizona.

10. OAK- LB- Tremaine Edmunds- Virginia Tech

11. MIA- LB- Roquan Smith- Georgia

12. IND (CLE/BUF)- CB- Denzel Ward- Ohio State
Indy would have loved one of the top LBers here but instead settle for arguably the best CB in the draft.

13. WAS- NT- Vita Vea- Washington

14. GB- DE- Marcus Davenport- UTSA

15. ARI- S- Derwin James- FSU

16. SF (from BAL)- CB- Josh Jackson- Iowa

17. LAC- DE- Harold Landry- BC

18. SEA- OT- Mike McGlinchey- ND

19. DAL- WR- Calvin Ridley- Alabama

20. DET- Da'Ron Payne- Alabama

21. CIN- OL- Frank Ragnow- Arkansas

22. CLE (from BUF)- OT- Kolton Miller- UCLA

23. NE- LB- Rashaan Evans- Alabama

24. CAR- DE- Josh Sweat- FSU

***TRADE: TEN trades 1(25) to PIT for 1(28) + 5(148) + 5(165) [Points: 720-716.8]***

25. PIT (from TEN)- QB- Mason Rudolph- Okla State
Pittsburgh makes a small trade up to jump ahead of New Orleans to grab their eventual Roethlisberger replacement

26. ATL- CB- Jaire Alexander- Louisville

***TRADE: NO trades 1(27) + 3(91) to IND for 2(35) + 3(67) [Points: 816-805]***

27. IND (from NO)- LB- Leighton Vander Esch- Boise St
Indy missed out on the top 2 LBers earlier so they use their plethora of draft picks to move up and grab LVE

28. Ten (from PIT)- C- James Daniels- Iowa

29. JAX- WR- DJ Moore- Maryland

30. MIN- Will Hernandez- UTEP

31. NE- OL- Connor Williams- Texas

32. PHI- RB- Sony Michel- Georgia

Round 2

33. CLE- CB- Mike Hughes- Central Florida

34. NYG- OL- Isiah Wynn- Georgia

35. NO (from IND)- TE- Dallas Goedert-South Dakota State

36. IND- S- Justin Reid- Stanford

37. IND- RB- Darius Guice- LSU

38. TB- RB- Ronald Jones III- USC

39. CHI- DE- Sam Hubbard- Ohio State

40. DEN- QB- Kyle Lauletta- Richmond

41. OAK- DT- Taven Bryan- Florida

42. MIA- CB- Carlton Davis- Auburn

***TRADE: NE trades 2(43) + 3(95) to SF for 2(52 from BAL) + 3(74)***

43. SF (from NE)- WR- Courtland Sutton- SMU

Pats Draft with trades

1(23). LB- Rashaan Evans- Alabama
The Pats need to add speed and athleticism to their defence and Evans is an excellent fit. Evans is a playmaker that would allow us to use Hightower outside more to rush the passer.

1(31). OT- Connor Williams- Texas
I know I'm in the minority but I still think Williams is the best LT in this draft. He had a disappointing 2017 with injury and doesn't have the ideal length for an OT, but his 2016 tape was elite and he has excellent athleticism. I think his quick feet more than make up for his lack of length at LT.

***TRADE: NE trades 2(43) + 3(95) to SF for 2(52 from BAL) + 3(74) [Points 590:600]***

2(52). S- Ronnie Harrison- Alabama
After a small trade back we add more speed and playmaking to the defence. Harrison is an excellent run defender at safety and is a matchup weapon against TE's in the passing game.

2(63). DE- Rasheem Green- USC
Green has prototypical size and athleticism for a Pats DE. He hasn't quite put it all together yet but he has huge upside as a base DE that can move inside on passing downs.

***Trade 3(74) to DEN for 3(99) + 4(106) + 5(149) [Points 220:217.4]***

3(99). QB- Luke Falk- Washington State
Falk is smart, accurate and poised inside the pocket. I don't think he has huge upside but he seems like a good developmental piece at QB.

4(106). LB- Genard Avery- Memphis
Double dipping at LB, Avery would immediately contribute on special teams and add depth at LBer. I think he can develop into a playmaker in the middle next to Evans, allowing us to use Hightower and Van Noy outside permanently.

5(149)- CB- DJ Reed- Kansas State
Reed is a slot CB and immediate contributor on special teams. He lacks ideal size and bulk but he plays much bigger and is very active in the run game.

6(198). RB- Chase Edmonds- Fordham
With Dion Lewis gone Edmonds has a chance to compete for a spot on the bottom of the roster. I really like Edmonds game and given a chance to develop I think he could be a solid NFL RB.

6(210).DB- Jeremy Reaves- South Alabama
A tough and physical special teamer, Reaves can play all over the secondary and add some attitude. He may not have ideal size or testing numbers but he plays tough, hits hard and has experience at CB and S.

7(219). DT- Du'Vonta Lampkin- Oklahoma
This is just a lottery ticket. Lampkin has the size and strength to make plays in the middle but he needs technique work and has some character and immaturity concerns. If he works out you get a steal, if he doesn’t you get a camp body on the DL.

You put in Avery and Jeremy Reaves! I think I love you.

This is an outstanding mock and your first four picks are what I’ve been coming round to as likely picks in Williams, Harrison and Green supporting the Evans pick. Great mock. I’m also one of Falk’s bigger fans here so thumbs up.

Mock 2- Trade Up

I’m almost never a fan of trading up because I think the draft completely warps player value. The only exception to this is if you think you can get a franchise QB. There is one guy in this draft I think has the potential to be a franchise QB and I think would be a great fit for the Pats and that is Josh Rosen. He has fantastic mechanics, a really solid arm and is the most cerebral QB in the draft. I think given time under Brady to learn and pairing him with BB and Josh McDaniels to challenge him intellectually he can thrive. Rosen is the one guy I would make the move up for if he fell enough.

***Trade 1(23) + 2(43) + 3(95) to SF for 1(9)***

1(9). QB- Josh Rosen- UCLA

1(31). OT- Connor Williams

***Trade 2(63) to LAR for 3(87) + 4(111) + 4(135)

3(87). LB- Genard Avery- Memphis

4(111). DL- Andrew Brown- Virginia

4(135). CB- DJ Reed- Kansas State

6(198).RB- Chase Edmonds- Fordham

6(210). DB- Jeremy Reaves- South Alabama

7(219). DT- Du'Vonta Lampkin- Oklahoma

Thanks man. I definitely have to credit you for the Avery pick, he was completely off my radar until you posted about him in the GIF Repository thread. You are always the best source of under the radar guys here.

QB was the hardest position for me because I found it really hard to find the right spot without forcing it. I like Falk and Lauletta but I think both will probably go higher than I'm comfortable with. If Falk is still there late 3rd/early 4th I would be very happy to take him and try to develop him. I just didn't want to take a QB for the sake of taking a QB.

I’ve come around to being happy with taking a future backup with upside rather than going all in for a starter. Falk and Lauletta fit that for me just fine.

Im not my strategy trade up for Chubb or blue chip qb prospect then in the second take Josh Sweat.
From there Deshon Elliot then attack o line.

I want a New Orleans type draft which I think we’re in a unique position to get. It might not match that high level, but we can come out of this draft with 3-4 good starters if BB picks well.

All we need is 4 good players out of this draft And we have the resources to do it.
What I would be on board with is trading up for the pass rusher of our choice and then trading back up is grab a Mason Rudolph
In the early second then work on the secondary.
A trade down for a 1st next season from say a team in some disarray like the Cardinals for one of our seconds and grab a third or 4 this year would also be a awesome trade.

Posted on the main board too but I’ll leave this here

My final mock fwiw. Obviously the trades are plucked out of thin air. This is just to kill time.

23. Rashaan Evans

Trade 31 to Broncos for 40, 109

40. Ronnie Harrison

Reid goes 28 to Steelers and we’ve had 3 separate contacts with Harrison.

43. Josh Sweat Or Rasheem Green

Trade 63 to Miami for 73, 123. Dolphins come up for Lauletta.

73 DaeSean Hamilton

Quality character and future Jordan Matthews replacement

95 Luke Falk

Quality long term backup at least.

109 Brandon Parker, LT, N Carolina A&T

Athletic well built long-armed LT.

123 Kalen Ballage

Loads of upside. Poor mans David Johnson.

198 Tremon Smith

Very athletic corner who gets his hands on the ball

210 Jullian Taylor, DT, Temple

Athletic and long armed interior D lineman. Needs work but lots to like.

219 Skai Moore

Previously highly thought of linebacker from an SEC school that met with B.B. personally. Sounds just like a Pats 7th round pick.

Last Fanspeak mock of the year, using Zone Coverage's consensus big board with the Difficult algorithm:

2018 NFL Mock Draft via Fanspeak's On the Clock Mock Draft Simulator

23: R1P23
LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH
BOISE STATE

31: R1P31
S JUSTIN REID
STANFORD

43: R2P11
EDGE SAM HUBBARD
OHIO STATE

63: R2P31
TE DALLAS GOEDERT
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE

95: R3P31
OT JOSEPH NOTEBOOM
TCU

198: R6P24
CB J.C. JACKSON
MARYLAND

210: R6P36
QB RILEY FERGUSON
MEMPHIS

219: R7P1
LB JOEL IYIEGBUNIWE
WESTERN KENTUCKY

Some notes:

- LB is our shallowest position group, and I had my choice of LVE or Rashaan Evans at 23. Evans was Plan B, but LVE offers 3-position versatility to the front 7...and I'm not buying the medical scare tactics.
- Justin Reid at 31 offers 4-position versatility to the DB group, more so than Mike Hughes, Carlton Davis, Isaiah Oliver or Ronnie Harrison. Both he & LVE have the potential, if reached, to become 3-down players for us, a huge advantage.
- I wasn't in love with any of the remaining OLmen at 43 (Isaiah Wynn was taken by Seattle at 18), so I chose Sam Hubbard over Taven Bryan, Rasheem Green & Lorenzo Carter because of his stoutness on the edge and his potential to pass-rush from both the outside & inside.
- Between LVE, Reid & Hubbard, I feel that all 3 levels of the defense have been upgraded with talent, athleticism & versatility, and that should make us more difficult to attack even with substitutions by the opposing offense.
- The only TE drafted by the end of the 2nd round has been Mike Gesicki, so Dallas Goedert was an easy choice at 63. Goedert will never last this long, but I now have confidence that somebody useful will indeed last this long.
- At 95, OTs Joseph Noteboom & Brandon Parker are I believe the best remaining OLmen available. I chose the fast-rising Noteboom. His vertical jump of 24" concerns me, though he checks every other box athletically, physically & mentally.
- Damn Bill to hell for throwing away our 5th- & 7th-rounders on Cassius Marsh. Feckin idiot.
- I'm hunting for CBs now at 198, and JC Jackson appears to be the best of those remaining.
- Here at 210, AND ONLY HERE at 210, is where I would consider drafting a QB, so Riley Ferguson it is, I guess.
- At 219, LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe might be one of the best players available regardless of position, and as an added bonus he should ensure that Elandon Roberts never plays a meaningful snap for the NEP ever again.

- I cannot stress this enough: I want NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with QB, WR AND RB during the first 2 days of the draft...NOTHING.

Hard to argue with your take on the Cassius Marsh trade. Nice mock.

In what thread on the main forum is your mock?

Trade #23 and #210 to the Chiefs for #54, #78, #86, and #124

#31

Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State

#43

Justin Reid, DB, Stanford

#54

Carlton Davis, DB, Auburn

#63

Deon Cain, WR, Clemson

#78

Ian Thomas, TE, Indiana

#86

Jayln Holmes, DE, Ohio State

#95

Tim Settle, DL, Virginia Tech

#124

Brandon Parker, OL, North Carolina State

#198

Matthew Thomas, LB, Florida State

#219

Desmond Harrison, OL, West Georgia

I am operating under the assumption that Garcia and Rivers both of whom I was high on last year will be impactful this coming season. Which is why I did not add similar prospects (i.e. Carter, Miller, etc.) in the early rounds.

Won't happen but this woud be mad.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 23: Wynn, Isaiah, OG, Georgia (B+)
Round 2 Pick 10 (MIA): Harrison, Ronnie, SS, Alabama (B+)
Round 2 Pick 31: Reid, Justin, FS, Stanford (A)
Round 3 Pick 4 (HOU): Ejiofor, Duke, DE, Wake Forest (A)
Round 3 Pick 9 (MIA): Brown, Orlando, OT, Oklahoma (A)
Round 3 Pick 16 (HOU): Lauletta, Kyle, QB, Richmond (A)
Round 3 Pick 34 (HOU): Chubb, Nick, RB, Georgia (A+)
Round 4 Pick 5 (CHI): Burks, Oren, OLB, Vanderbilt (A+)
Round 4 Pick 15 (CHI): Meeks, Quenton, CB, Stanford (A+)
Round 6 Pick 24: Cantrell, Dylan, WR, Texas Tech (A+)
Round 6 Pick 31: Jones, Justin, DT, North Carolina State (A+)
Round 6 Pick 36: Jackson, Justin, RB, Northwestern (A+)

I would load up on back end of the 2nd to 4th round picks. i cannot possibly predict how the fron office views the guys already in the system but most of these picks have been made for the long term other than Chubb and Burks.

Personally all i want is as solid draft.

Give me an Edge, CB, LB, anything else is gravy in my mind
