I don't think this is about money at all. When Gronk was a young guy he did as told as many young guy generally do. He loves football and you see that in his play. The Culture and BB have clearly not been a mix for him and over the years that has worn down his will to be here. He knows how good he is and knows any of the other 31 teams would be happy to have him.

Why wouldn't he think to himself "I shouldn't have to take this crap and be unpaid most of my career". The only reason I think he hasn't forced his way out is because he loves playing with Brady.

Gronk has many endeavors that he takes part in, so I wouldn’t make that assumption. Being a fit freak is a big part of his brand.

He has all the leverage. Pats will never be able to trade him for what he's worth. He's injured nearly every year and has begun to talk about retirement. A first rounder is not coming, an elite talent is not coming. If you trade him you are purely doing it to not lose him for nothing and the return will seem minuscule to the impact he will make on wherever he ends up.... assuming he plays.

The fact is Gronk's at a point in his career where from his perspective he's still as productive as ever, has been banged up and is looking at the backend and not the front end, see's future career paths, and he's doing the team a favor with his contract. He's probably looking across the league and seeing mercs getting paid and wondering what he's getting for his loyalty.
