Building the Patriots Big Board, TE's

Really would love to see Ian Thomas on the Pats. II' be fine if they used their own second on him.

I keep seeing huge differences in the grades people place on Thomas. I like him at 95, but I wouldn't complain at 63, depending on the board. Most put him in the 4th, but I've been hearing rumors that he could sneak into the 1st. I don't know if he's a true #1 at TE, but he's probably my favorite mid-round guy right now. I think he could be very solid here.

I think he'll probably be there for our 3 but not much later. I could see the Pats going for him with the 63 or a smaller trade down, as he seems to have the most all around potential to me. It seems the non elite TEs go a bit (not much) later than expected in drafts to me.

Bb drafts for value and won’t overdraft Thomas at 63, but would grab him at 95.

Thomas runs option routes, which fits seemlessly into our scheme.

What about Troy Fumagalli? It's unbealiveable how much he flies under the radar. For me, he is up there with Gesicki in terms of potential. IMO best TE in the draft.

He can also value players far differently, and he's made some unexpected second round picks. :) He also will have had the opportunity to draft at least 3 times before then and will have grabbed several players higher on their board already, so Thomas may be near the top at that point. We'll see. :)

Is Fumagalli a good blocker? That's the main question.

I like Fumagalli fine, but I think what you see is what you get with very little room for growth from a potential standpoint. His is not a dynamic athlete. Struggles to get separation before the catch and not a threat after. He is a good route runner and has good hands. Not overly powerful as a blocker, but uses good leverage and technique to do a decent job. Has some injury history. I gave him a 5th/6th round grade and I left him off because in that range I am looking for guys with higher upside. He can be a solid #2 in the NFL though.
