We won’t carry 6 WRs.
Not 6 + Slater, at any rate.

I am not sure why anyone thinks that CP is a lock.
We have options for returners on the roster already and I am sure some of the UDFAs (and maybe even draft choices) can do that as well. Similarly he looks like a great gunner but Slater/King are already a very formidable pairing. And as player on offense he has been very limited in his route tree and has inconsistent hands. He is above McCarron but behind anyone else there. And with McCarron having at a head start on understanding the offense even behind ahead of him is not entirely clear.
He could easily end up being outvalued by other players given his cap hit.
Slater is a gunner that takes a WR spot or a spot on the offensive side of the ball. And I have Mitchell as a lock...he was almost ready last year and the year before he was the best rookie WR that Brady ever had since Branch, IMO.
Doubt it. Patterson did more last year as a WR than Dorsett did...and Patterson's value as a KOR (possibly PR) outweighs whatever Britt/Dorsett bring to the field.
I believe one of them ( Britt,Patterson or Dorsett ) will contribute to the team this year as a true WR. Appearance during the season doesn't make comfort for players. High expectations, little time to adjust to the system, especially very complicated Pat's system. Common training camp with the team let them to become familiar with the playbook and gives them some comfort.
If you ignore the possibility that Britt and or Dorsett might bring a crap-tonne more "to the field" after they've had a full-offseason and Camp with Brady in the Pats system - which neither of them have experienced yet.
Whether slater is on the roster or not have no impact on the wr position
We will keep 4 or 5 other players that are WRs whether slater is on the team or not, just as we would keep 4-5 whether ebner or gostkowski or allen are in the team or not.
From the horse's mouth...what is Slater listed here as?

By keeping Slater, it has an effect on the # of WR's we keep because he does occasionally play WR and would be an option over a #6WR who doesn't play ST's.
I really don't think this means anything and it never has.
#1 the whole planet knows Slater is not a WR
#2 Jason Mc is ahead of Rowe. Already?
"That is just like..your opinion, man"
And I see McCourty in competition with Rowe for the #2 spot as I think J.Jones will be our slot guy.
If 2 of Dorsett, Britt and Mitchell are great in camp, I see Cooks being traded. I don't think that this affect Patterson who is the best kick returner in the NFL, a 2-3 catch per game WR and a solid gunner (Slater is often injured).
Fine by me if they do, but not holding my breath. Britt has a large frame and a good catch radius...but so does Mitchell. Dorsett seemed like he was only running simplified routes out there....something Patterson can do and more....
I welcome all competition, but if we are laying down $...here's my WR locks (assuming no injuries): Cooks, Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Patterson, and SLATER (listed as a WR, d%#*!@t!), LOL.
Anyone want to wager?

You keep citing the 2-3 catches per game. That was in an offense that is nothing like the Patriots offense. I'd be shocked, if he even makes the team, that Patterson gets 1 ball every 4 games.
With the reduced emphasis on kick returns, it just isn't worth 3 million a year. I'd rather see Cooks signed to a multi-year deal to get his cap number down. Cooks caught quite a few balls and was very productive in this offense.
Patterson is a terrible route runner and never could learn the offense. Now you expect him to run the options routes in the NE offense? The route combinations in NE depend on everybody running the correct route for receivers to get open.
Mitchell hasn't run a route in a real NFL game in almost 14 months, and hasn't run a route in any game situation for the Pats in nearly 8 months - due to knee injuries that have dogged him since December 2016.
Patterson has never even tried to run a route in the Pats system.
Britt and Dorsett have both run routes for the Pats as recently as two months ago. Neither have yet had an off-season and Camp of instruction in the Pats system. But they're about to.
I'm glad you believe in your crystal ball so deeply that you're willing to lay down real money on what it tells you WILL happen at the end of five months from now.
I don't have one of those. All I know is that the past is the past, that it's a new season, and that I really don't know yet how any of these guys will or won't develop their games over the summer, or to predict with any confidence which of these guys will or won't be on the Pats roster at the beginning of September. OTOH, I don't have a horse in the race, so I really don't care at all who makes it and who doesn't. So, I'm happy to just sit back and watch how it all plays out.
Actually, one thing I do know is that there are always surprises.
