Competition Committee Proposal: Allow 345 Park Ave to eject players

Remember when the NFL instituted its policy to take any player off the field if they appeared to exhibit any concussion symptoms? And most of this forum freaked out about how it was going to be used by the NFL to screw with the Pats? Well fast forward a year, Brady goes down hard at the start of the tying drive in SB 51 and is slow to get up. Looks kind of woozy. The perfect time to put the fix in. Nothing happened.

This will be similar.
Yeah people here are kinda paranoid. Same thing happened last year when they centralized instant replay to the league office. It was all a huge conspiracy to screw over the Patriots. Then NE benefitted from 3 prominent regular season instant replay overturns which took away touchdowns from opposing teams.

This (proposed) new rule seems to be a compromise between what the NCAA does and doing nothing.

This is of course the worry. But there are quite a few times people should have been kicked out but weren't. Refs are too timid. E.g., ODB going after Norman, Gronk when he jump-humped that guy, a few hits to the helmet that were egregious. Frankly I'm ok with it if they truly restrict it to such obvious egregious cases that nobody reasonable would disagree on.
In a perfect world, I would agree with your opinion. The problem is this and other rules are too subjective and depend on what the person making the call had for lunch.

Yes, like every rule in the game, this one is subjective. But what this one does is gives league officials a chance to review a play without slowing down the game like they do in college.

Replay is hard to compare, we all see the same replays on TV, the audience and announcers usually get the call right in realtime.

The reason we have "rules" to is to at least keep the appearance of an aboveboard standard of accountability.

A nameless faceless entity in NY of all places should be a known person, a master ref if you will. At least we'd know who to blame if the system begins to look arbitrary.

Hello Big Brother. Oh you call yourself 345 Park Avenue now, a very clever ruse.

Dictatorship of Goodell 1 - the NFL players 0.

Ball's in your court now NFLPA!

345 Park Ave open for business.

We're in the entertainment industry and we plan on giving you the best entertainment for your dollars.

Platitudes are wonderful, but bribesdonations get you to the post season.

Yeah, I agree. I'm fine with this in theory, but I don't think the NFL realizes what it's getting itself into. Now, everytime a player isn't ejected after review, people are going to go nuts comparing X hit that didn't yield ejection with Y hit that did, forming various theories about favoritism and whatnot as a result, etc. It's the kind of thing that could go reasonably well in a competent league office's hands, but the NFL does not have a competent league office.

In any case, Gronk really should have been ejected for his hit this past year, and if this new rule creates accountability to help prevent those types of hits in the future, I've got no problem with that.
