Giardi: Patriots Players are Miserable

No, I think it would be more a matter of Brady and Gronk losing BB. BB shouldn't concern himself with adjusting his successfully proven, team-oriented style of doing things to accommodate individual players.
I think BB could win with just a game manager type of QB thats what Brady was the first couple of years. Just concentrate on building a really strong defense.

Brady is not upset about getting yelled at, Belichick demanding excellence or not getting attaboys. Heck, Brady yells and demands excellence. I do think BB plays mind games with the players at times, and people get tired of BS. We see how he interacts with the press. Remember the heart surgery comment about Brady’s hand. Brady being under appreciated has less to do with Belichick not saying thanks, and more to do with him not accepting Brady’s approach to preparing himself physically. Ultimately the players do the winning - the coach at times does have to adapt if he wants to win. There has to be a team effort - includes the coach and players.

I do think something happened. Im not sure players are "miserable", that seems a bit over the top but the Butler situation last off season, the Guerrero stuff, the Jimmy trade, the Butler situation in the super bowl, the Gronk comments (especially about Amendola), Solder im not sure but if its true he wanted to leave its very concerning. Its too much smoke.

I hope everything sorts itself out but there is certainly a black cloud hanging around Foxboro.

Lombardi was not just a hard ass. Max McGee was always getting fined for breaking curfew. He had been fined $250, $500, $1000 and $2500. The last time Lombardi said “if you break curfew again Max, if will be $5000. And if you find something worth $5000, call me and I will go with you.”

Until we hear it from everyone involved, it’s all just BS at this point. If Belichick is this awful to play for, that’s on the other coaches and ownership for failing to recognize and reel him in. If this is all because of Guerrero, send both Gronk and Brady packing, and come out and tell everyone exactly why you sent them packing so no one can read between the lines. I’m a huge Brady supporter, and I love Gronk, but above all else, I love the Patriots. You wanna talk about stress? I can’t imagine that Bill isn’t stressed out all of the time too. His coaching staff is constantly being poached, every team in the league is gunning for him with their absolute best, he consistently takes other teams **** talent and makes a competitor out of them just to see them leave, the media for the most part hates him other than the times it suits them to shine his knob and talk about his greatness. So, yeah. I can see why he would probably be hard to play for. These guys all have to see it from the other guys perspective and hash this out, or aleast be caught slammin’ beers together at a local restaurant to get these reports to just STOP!

Reiss

Price

Howe

Curran

That's the list of people whose comments I respect enough to read. And Mike the little Chris Gaspar wannabe Giardi is NOT on the list.

Edit: I know there are other local writers who deserve to be on the list - Mike Loyko, et.al. - whom I forgot to originally include, but the point remains: there are ZERO national writers I trust, and not all - quite a few, in fact - of the local writers either.

honestly i could see gronk being miserable. He's only known what its like to be a winner, a few years on a dumpster team and i bet you he'd deion branch himself.

Concerning brady, i noticed that lately there have been stories about TB considering retiring, i haven't read them so i don't know the source or the possible validity. But as you say TB should have said sometning, last year he was still playing till he was 45, now it seems like hes starting to think about the possibilty of leaving. I think BB could win a SB with a top qb, its been done before, and i think he would look at it as a challange.

Yep

I’m as big a Brady supporter as there is, and I clearly supported moving Garrapolo because Brady is still the best player in football, and he shows no sign of decline and said he wanted to continue playing for the next 4-5 season’s. That being the case you don’t have much of a choice but to trade Garrapolo because he won’t sign to remain a back up. However the issues with Guerrero had already surfaced and I can’t believe that whatever issues he has with Belichick didn’t occur until after Garrapolo was gone. So if Brady had tired of Belichick then that dynamic was already in place and he knew it. If so he should have made it clear to Belichick and the Kraft’s that he no longer wanted to finish his career in New England and that he was open to being traded. Waiting until after the trade and the season strikes me as really shortsighted and selfish on his part. That said if he gives them 2-3 more seasons then he has done his part, if not he kind of screwed them.

You know tune it has been said that a head coach has a self life, that after so many years the players tune them out (no pun intended) but BB has managed to avoid this by constantly turning over the roster. He maintains a small core of key players but even some of those peel off from year to year. So could it be a Possibility that BB is starting to lose TB and gronk?
Please! Your constant whining about half-truths and pure speculation is starting to wear me down.

Tell me, if any of this TB or Gronk displeasure was remotely true why would you even care about them. Would Gronk be worth rooting for if he was *****ing about the team that paid him millions of dollars that they didn't have to? A team that has supported him and paid him even when he wasn't on the field, simply because they asked him to walk 300 yds to see his personal body man.

Does Brady really seem like the kind of guy who would take a total hissy fit over the team asserting their rights when Guerero clearly overstepped his bounds and got a slap on the wrist? What past experience over the 18 years would lead you to think Brady would act in such a childish behavior

I'm sure Brady wasn't happy when his good friend got taken down a peg. I'm sure he isn't happy when he gets yelled at in practice either. But in the end, the PLAYER should know that the "yelling" has a purpose and you have to take it in stride. At EVERY turn, Brady has shown he gets it.

It's a NARRATIVE, reflex, and nothing more. It's taking a sliver of truth and expanding it to create drama and interest. I no longer (at least most of the time) get irate when I see it happening, and this year I am even embracing it. I will enjoy the predictions of a Patriots demise. I will take pride in the fact everyone else but us will have won the offseason. I feel my inner underdog starting to emerge as I write. BRING IT ON. ;)

Let’s be realistic though. Every superstar in every sport gets lots of leeway within their organization. They were talking about this on the radio a few weeks back on how a lot of athletes in all sports have their own trainers.

Brady has been the model foot soldier for Bill Belichick for 17 years. If Brady didn’t buy in the “Patriot Way” wouldn’t exist. This was discussed by Randy Moss and others. At his first team meeting Bill Belichick tore a strip off Brady. Moss was shocked and said if the top guy on the team can take it then others had to fall in line. He said no other superstar player would take that kinda heat from their coach.

I just don’t buy that all of a sudden Brady and Gronk have become primma donnas and the Pats can “send them packing”. You think if we had another big name QB like Roethlisberger or Rodgers they’d just fall in line like some JAG and not get any special consideration? Not a hope. That’s how it is in sports.

I have no doubt some players are miserable. I have little doubt that there is significant strain between Brady/Gronk and BB.

I also think it is impossible to work with someone for as long as Brady has and not have some serious patches of static.

There's no doubt that this program does not work for some players. There's also no doubt that this program does wonders for some players.

I guess I should not have envisioned this ending smoothly, with Brady winning an MVP, a 6th or 7th ring and then riding off into the sunset.

Here’s the deal though. Brady should understand why he can’t have his own trainer hanging around the facility with his own special treatment. Allowing that would create a big problem within the locker room. It would also create a problem with the training staff. Open up the door to legal issues, privacy concerns. If Brady wants to be treated differently than his peers and receive special treatment, then it would appear he has lost touch with what made this team so great all of these years. They run out of that locker room as a team, they don’t run out carrying Brady. My boss tears into me in front of my peers whenever he feels the need to. I’m at the top of my game, and I don’t complain or get upset about it. I get it. As a leader I understand it. Moss’s testimony to his own reaction is a perfect example.

Amazing how one miserable media idiot can get so many tails wagging.

And that is why Giardi still has a job.

I should be a troll media guy....

===============

Bottom line: Nobody knows how it is in the locker room other than the team. Even ex-players like Harrison, Bruschi, McGinest, and etc...have shocked me by revealing HOW LITTLE they even know. I'd have thought they would be chummy with BB and be able to walk into the locker room anytime and talk to players...but nope..they don't know more than we do.

I gotta say that I have been slightly disappointed with Curran the last few weeks. Yes, him and Reiss want to know WHY Butler wasn't even the 6th DB in the SB...so do we...but BB is the best at what he does... sometimes we have to STFU an drink the Kool Aid.

It is like I alluded to in another thread...the Pats are basically a 100 employee place of business in a highly competitive industry with major media exposure. I used to work in a small company with ~400 employees worldwide...and I could write a book about the drama there....we even had to have a small diminutive guy physically dragged out of board room by two large state troopers after he was arrested on the spot for identity theft...leaving behind a trail of blood (he stole a police detective's personal info to take out massive loans!).

I just think these folks outside the organization are taking social media comments and trying to figure out what they mean....and they probably mean nothing. For example the latest from the idiots on weei saying Brady might hang it up due to his comments on Tom vs Time...come on...but if I was Brady or Gronk what a true pleasure it would be to make comments that I knew would set people off just to screw with them. If guys dont like the work environment that is one that has won more games than any other team in 18 years then they should just quit...screw them. Just like the young workers in my company...oh we want to be treated better, free lunches, more time off, safe hours etc etc....get a frigin life and work and earn your keep. I dont care what player it is, if they dont like it then quit....

He won once with that kind of QB. 2001. But you can't do what that CD did to the Rams anymore.

By 2003, the 3rd best QB performance in Super Bowl history was needed to win. That's what Brady gave them.

Brady would not even be playing right now if not for that special treatment.
