Solder watch / EDIT: Solder to NYG

As stupid as it sounds but the cost is the biggest issue. I cant see a way they can get Suh without a APY that will not only be high but also cost them a third round comp pick. This turns a FA signing into a trade almost.. except there is no cost control tradeoff.

I just cant find any semblence of a good deal in the entire Suh rumor.

Actually, Suh (after being cut) would not count for the comp formula - and that is the only reason this “Pats interest“ would not be completely out of reality.

btw - some analysts also say his market is going to be smaller than people expect..

Do not see Suh in a Patriots Uniform, not sure there is one big enough to fit his massive ego that got inflated after the insane amount Miami paid him..

Who starts the Suh rumors Bertram, Felger or another idiot on the radio???

The less we hear about Solder the better, as behind the newsfeeds things are happening and decisions are being made..

Back to Solder watch .

I was thinking yesterday about this old switcheroo: Thomas to Pats to revive his NFL juices while CLE vastly overpay Solder..

I mean, Thomas and Pats are dating from a distance since the beginning of times . maybe its time they finaly tie the knot

Everybody will love the basic idea but I just dont see why the Browns wouldn't just hang on to Thomas instead. And if the decision wont be made early enough to affect Solders choice anyway then it cant be something to rely on to happen as an alternative from a Pats perspective.

You think Thomas wants to lowkey get out of Cleveland ?

Its more like the guy (Thomas) deserves one year of Foxboro ride . and Solder knows what sacrifice means..

From the “reality“ standpoint: Pats possibly/hopefully need top dollar LT for 1 season - and Thomas is signed just for one more season (carrying 14M cap hit). Solders 2018 cap hit could be significantly lower (even on bigger contract) but it will be a minimum 2y deal meaning carrying top cap hit LT for at least 2 more years which will make investment in young cheap LTs last year really depressing..

Not the best way to start the morning, patsfans..

Yep

Really tough start to this offseason. I haven’t heard the numbers for Lewis yet but so far there hasn’t been a deal they should have matched.

This is Rap . so its serious. Time for backup plans discussions..

a) Cannon to LT
b) re-sign Waddle, pray for Garcia, hope for Jelks, believe in Croston
c) draft high for LT again

The Lewis deal is in that thread now. The Patriots could have afforded that. Especially if they are losing Solder. Luckily, this is a deeper RB draft class.

I make fun of the panicky fans on day 1-2 of FA as much as the next guy, but BB is close to getting torched so far.

There has to be a legitimate plan to use this cap space. Suh? We really won’t pay Brady’s blindside?

Im sure BB knew this was coming . thats why he invested so much to the position last yr . not only players, also good old Dante.. Unfortunately it didn't work out the way they envisioned despite considerable efforts.. Shows you can never have enough ensurance

WTH is going on. Team has over 20 million in cap space and can’t bring a single free agent back. We all knew Butler was gone but Lewis and now Solder?

Bill going for the record on # of compensatory picks awarded for a single year
Right. If they don't sign anyone they'll get a ton.

All about what value the team puts on the player and what that player is getting in terms of offers. The Patriots since Belichick took over are always steadfast in not (significantly) exceeding the value they assign a player when making contract offers. They rather risk losing a player (and get worse in the short-term) than overspending and being capped out in the future.

I can understand not liking this approach in the short-term. But in the long-term this philosophy has helped to Patriots to an unprecedented run in the salary cap era.

I don't hate it. They will probably carry 4 T: Cannon, Waddle, Garcia and the rookie

They will have 8m+ to bring a LB like Bradham and re-sign Slater + a 3rd comp next year. If Cannon step up that will be huge.

Mckinnon is out there as is Jeremy Hill and the Burkmeister

Concerned, but not worried. Long ago, I learned that teams transition - players come and go.

Maybe new faces emerge. Maybe they become like the 2005 team for a year... in the end : a few breaks here & there have been the deciding factors between champs & « close ».
