My only concern about Darby is he just got there and they already decided he's not a future priority.

Well, only a LaCanfora-level rumor at this point that the Eagles have him available for a 3rd-rounder.

OTOH, the Eagles are already in cap hell for the foreseeable future. Darby has only the one cheap year left. Jalen Mills has 2 cheap years left, Rasul Douglas has 3, and they were both reasonably productive.

So, maybe it's a case of trying to get something for Darby now rather than letting him walk in 2019 for possibly no comp pick.

I suppose it's a valid, even Belichickian move.

At the moment, the Eagles are $9.9M in the hole, cap-wise, with Michael Bennett's $5.65M and Robinson's (reported) new deal not yet included. Plus Bradham and Burton have yet to be re-signed, which will cost at least a few million $$ more.

So, I imagine that Roseman and everyone in his office are dancing as fast as they can, and considering every option to shave another $1M off their cap expenses within the next +/- 56 hours.

The Pats cap/FA situation seems relatively serene in comparison.

I would be glad if one of them wears Pat's uniform.

Belichick always surprises...I mean how many of us saw the Stephon gilmore signing?

I expect the pats to sign either preston brown or nigel bradham...

Given that the Bills have $32M in cap space, not a lot of expensive UFAs to re-sign aside from Brown and Kyle Williams, and have a metric butt-load of high draft picks with which to backfill their roster cheaply ...

AND

Given that Philly is somewhere around $15M in the hole, cap-wise ...

I'd expect the Bills to be able to make Brown more expensive than Bradham would be from Philly.

One left-field possibility for the Pats is the return of Casillas, who now has three years' starting experience at MLB/ILB with the NYG. Likely the least expensive of the three, by far.

Yeah, I can guess the reaction to Casillas. However, the LB corps needs two things in approximately equal measure - NFL experience and more "talent". Casillas can provide the requisite experience cheaply, and a high draft pick can provide the requisite talent for 2019 (or even the second half of 2018). So, maybe think of Casillas as a 1-2 year "bridge".

And, it's not as if the LB room is SRO at the moment, so 2-3 more bodies in there aren't going to make it overcrowded.

Ahh, yes! I, too, pine for those heady days back when the Pats had $60M in cap space to play with .... instead of, like, 12.

Amongst many defensive issues tackling was one of the biggest. Hightower on the field plus Bradham or Preston should improve that "limp" area.

Would be devastating if he came to us, just can't see it with his stupid penalties, lack of discipline oh and the stupid cap hit he would want.

If anyone wants a shocking move then the value is in looking at teams that are changing coordinators/scheme and former high round picks around the end of their rookie contract. I dont think there will be anything surprising in FA this year. If anything then surprises might come via trades which seems to be a the new modus operandi for BB and Caserio.
