2018 Combine

Lets see.. unless the hype machine somehow really catches on to him I think of him as borderline day 1 pick. But as usual it only takes one team..

A number have sites have been touting him as a top 20 pick for a while now. Pauline has said over and over again that teams consider LVE the second or third LB in this draft, and that he will not make it out of the 1st round. Top-20 is a bit rich for me based on tape, but I wouldn't be surprised if goes higher than people expect. Who knows . . .

As much as I hate to say it because I really like the kid but given how deep the class looks in RBs I am not sure there is a lot of value going after any of them so early. Obviously it all comes down to internal evals...

Also on a sidenote I would not go toe-to-toe with other teams trying to get Lewis. No way I overpay in FA this year for a RB..
Probably will be a run on RBs in the mid to late 2nd round. If we want a good one, going to have to grab one at 43. Especially if Lewis and Burkhead don’t resign. White is a pass catching back, Gillislee is, really I don’t know, and Bolden is a special team player. Definitely a need if Lewis and Burkhead leave.

The important stuff: 3-cone and shuttles

If you haven't seen Chase Edmonds, do yourself a favor and watch his highlights. Looks a lot like Dion Lewis. Vision, balance, shiftiness, and unexpected power to finish his runs. Great pass catcher, too; I like him in this offense.

Interesting. Count me in for this kid.

Just as we all guessed, Ward is taller than Alexander and Hughes. (What??)

What are your thoughts on Alexander? When I watched him, he just looked like a Pat to me (unscientific to be fair). Nice compliment to Gilmore too.

Yes, he's very good. I'm a fan. Somewhat similar player to Butler, but I think he's more patient in his backpedal and more refined in his technique (compared to Butler coming out at least). Passes the eye test for me, and he's on my board as a draftable Patriots player. I only put about 30 - 40 defensive players on there any given year. Plus, if you put any stock in PFF, he's extremely impressive:

Good write up there, for what it's worth.

Yeah, I was very impressed.

Not the best arm length for a CB predicted to go top 5

Why is Derwin James being thought of as a LB?

It's pretty much average. Fitzpatrick is versatile, and I wouldn't him seeing him here, but I've never been able to buy into the franchise-altering corner / safety talk. He's good, though. A team could really benefit from the stability he brings. He's a lot like McCourty, actually. He's probably worth a top 10 investment, but I don't know that he'll be an all pro at any of the positions in the secondary, even if he can hold them all down competently.

Harrison is a little lighter than expected but I love the wingspan. I think maybe he dropped a little weight for the 40. I would love him at #43

I like that arm length (33” plus) for covering TEs.

Although this doesn't sound very Patriot-y

SOURCES TELL US
"He's a feisty guy. Big and athletic but he's not really the brains of the defense over there. He's not really 'that dude' who runs the show and I don't think he's going to be that kind of guy in the pros. He handles his work though." -- NFC team executive

If Callaway runs a 6.7 3 cone to go with his 4.41 40, he’s a very Patriot-type WR on the field (Key being ON the field :( )Wonder if he could be a Dennard type pick for us.

Haven’t seen any discussions on the main board, and I apologise for going off topic, but does anyone think we sign Frank Gore? Seems like a B.B. move to me. One of the best blockers in the league.
