NFL considering changing DPI to 15 yard penalty

When the Patriots decide to flat out tackle a guy who is going to beat one of our defenders (for a 30+ yard pickup), they'll change the rules to make it more interpretive so it's either 15 yards or spot foul for a flagrant DPI.

This is how they do it in college, right? I don't hear a lot of controversy about it there. I'm okay with it, but with one stipulation: Make it like a foul in basketball, in that if the receiver still makes the catch, they get the 15 yards added to it, instead of it just being declined. Will help to disincentive some of the potential shenanigans.

What has taken so long for this? Gomer manning lived off of this rule and now overrated qbs lime jump ball joe flacco, have also benefitted and won games with it. So have we, but we came late to the party.

Long, long overdue and in a league structured for a lot yards and points, i am surprised they are even talking about it.

I know it's the college rule, but I can't imagine why players don't just tackle anyone who beats them deep under that rule. Why not? Because the wide open receiver could theoretically drop it?

That is because it is a sensible rule and there is no fantasy football at the ncaa level.

Funny how logical decisions lead to less whining and controversy, eh?

The problem with this is obvious. Unless they're going to make regular DPI 15 yards and then invent something called "flagrant defensive pass interference" which is a spot foul.

Tis the season when the NFL discusses bad ideas.

Yes, changing an ultra annoying current rule, that should never have been a reality in the first place, is really a bad idea.

Teams have won games with great acting jobs by wrs and corrupt refs, under orders from goodell over this rule. It has become a mockery of the sport. CHuck it deep out of desperation, have the wr channel his best acting skills, and it’s first and goal.

College announcers and fans complain about the rule all the time.

The problem with DPI in the NFL is that there is no way of knowing whether the receiver would have caught the ball had their been no interference. The current rule unfairly helps the offense.

I think this rule would benefit the Patriots Defense with those Slow @ss LB's. Instead of getting beat 40 yards downfield they will be Coached up to give up the 15yd penalty. I think this rule proposal move will give BB no incentive in Drafting or Signing a young Fast LB. More Elandon Roberts here we come.

we already have this, its called "illegal contact" and DPI

So other than busted coverage there goes any pass play of more than 14 yards.
There's incompetence and then there's the NFL competition committee
