Scouting Report: Darell Williams, RB and Marcus Davenport, DE

Amazing how far Davenport has climbed? Went from almost complete unknown to lottery pick.
I just hope he gets the time & development he deserves. I hope he doesn't caught up in the noise & expectations.

Most of it is playing lower than his blocker. With his length and upper body strength, if he gets his pad level lower to the ground, he’s winning most of those battles.

It does. He's gunna be a menace once he really learns how to use that length to keep guys off him. Another thing I noted was the fact that he tries to make everything a fight instead of slipping & redirecting his man with his own momentum. That fighting mentality doesn't help & will allow some to get inside his chest.

He's so young. He has 2-3 years of development before he hits his prime. He'll turn 22 Sept 4. So it's very likely he fills out a little more too.

Williams caught my eye when I noticed LSU named him MVP (even over Guice, weirdly enough). They think very highly of him. He also had a 100 / 100 yard game running / receiving -- that's actually a first in LSU history, despite the incredible talents who have come through there at RB, such as Faulk, Ridley, Fournette, Ware, Blue, etc. Talented guy who didn't get a lot of touches, and probably doesn't have great top end speed, but who has a fairly diverse skill set and can move the chains. There's a lot to like about Williams as a mid - late round pick who could come in and carve out a strong role.

Didn't know that about the 100/100 game. He's def someone that would be on my radar post day 3.

Any time he had double digit carries, good things tended to happen. The Ole Miss game was the 100 / 100 effort. He has over 400 receiving yards in his career, which is pretty solid for a big back that will be pigeonholed as a short yardage guy.

Yea I'm familiar but hadn't heard the stat & immediately thought of all the great backs you mentioned.
