WR: Cooks, Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Dorsett - Likelly DA
LB - Hightower, KVN, Scrub, JAG , PS guy from Cleveland...

What we do? Spend on WR ... Please : the O even if all FA go elsewhere will be fine
They need playmakers on D side. They really lack speed, a #2 CB and another ED.

Niners resign Cascius Marsh to 2 year extension who say they love his pass rush and enthusiasium we could of used both of those in the Superbowl.
He could rush the passer but we tried to put him in coverage

He is gone because he could not set the edge. It had nothing to do with him in coverage. If you cant be a solid edge defender you have no place on a BB team.

EDIT: nvm @maineman209 pointed it out already..

This right there shows why Dorsett is in no danger to be cut unless for a catastrophic camp. Look at the ages of our receivers. Cooks might price himself out of range in 2019 but there is a good chance that we can have Dorsett for cheap on an extension to keep the pipeline going.

Be realistic:

RB: Blount - 1.5m
TE: Graham - 5.5m
DE: Peppers - 3m
DT: Clinton McDonald - 4.5m
LB: Zach Brown - 3m

Look at the contracts for players like David, Kirksey, Ogletree, Travathan, and Marshall for a Zach Brown comparable. It's going to be in the $8-10m range. The number for Clinton McDonald might be right but he was a starter on the worst defense in the NFL. Jimmy Graham is going to get offers worth more than $5.5m based on his name and position scarcity.

This probably isn't going to be a pretty offseason for the Patriots. Free agency is deep in positions like safety where they're already strong and weak in positions where they're weak, like offensive tackle. The big coups are going to come from keeping their own players like Lewis, Burkhead, and the tackles. They may add a few guys at the margins but I don't expect big splashes with the possible exception of a player like Sheldon Richardson. Unless they use the Garoppolo pick as a trade chip.

This may be unpopular and I might be called a troll but I spend almost all my free agent money making sure we have a pass rush.
I let Solder walk and I pay Waddle to be opposite Cannon and draft a tackle in the middle rounds for Scar to develop.
Solder is great player and better person but he is injured a good amount of the time and Waddle and Cannon can protect the franchise.
Scar has shown he can coach up mid range talent.
Heres what I do in the off-season
I pick up Thomas if Denver cuts him
I resign Lewis
I let Burkhead go resign him if Lewis is too expensive
I let Solder go for anything over 9 mill
I go after Zach Brown which we should of done last off-season as I pined for.
I take a flier on Sherman 10 Mill over 2 years
I resign Marquis Flowers we will have competition for his services.
I look for linebackers who are sitting on the bench or are coming off Injuries.
Would love Trent Murphy
We need mean Ness on the team Harrison gave us that I love Harrison and woundn't be opposed bringing him back but I'd rather go with raw speed.
I bring back Danny at a slightly higher salary he earned it.
I restructure or Cut Bennett if Bennett is committed he is worth 4 mill a season if not and he wants to retire or Chase money not a huge loss.
If the unthinkable happens and Gronk retires I go after Eifert.
Dwayne Allen is gone unless as some posters assume we love his blocking to pay him good money.
I'm in the camp that we can find a good blocking tight end cheaper or in the draft.
If we can restructure him down to 3 mill a season I'm good keeping him.

We go into the draft needing Linebacker D Line O line defensive back and Developmental QB.
I still wonder if we try to get Tom Savage at some point appearantly we we're in love with him in the draft and Lombardi claims we called him the Other Tom.

Thoughts?

Brown is older than the others and never had a stellar season. I think Rolando Mclain is he's ceiling. I like McDonald a lot, he's numbers a very good also. And if they can restructure Bennett i don't want another TE here. I think they will retain 80% of our FA's. Butler is gone i would take a look at Amerson. I don't watch Oakland a lot but he was incredible in 2015.

If they do lock: Solder, Lewis, Dola, Fleming or Waddle, a good vet CB#2, a good LB like Brown or a ED and our ST guys like King, Ebner and Bolden. It's a pretty strong offseason. They have the money to do so. So they could use our early picks on DE, double dip ILB, SS(just to cut Richards), RB.

Brown was a first team All-Pro in 2016...

Solder is great player and better person but he is injured a good amount of the time and Waddle and Cannon can protect the franchise. >>>> Cons>> Solder was very good and is a better player than Waddle Pros>>>> Solder will get at least 12m avg. With that money you could lock Waddle, Fleming and a good vet DL like McDonald. And you will get a #3 for him... So = I like it.

I pick up Thomas if Denver cuts him >>> No. We have a lot of playmakers here and Dola is the guy. WR is the skill position that we are set with Dola.

I let Burkhead go resign him if Lewis is too expensive >>> I think we all agree to that. Lewis is a superior player but if he asks too much let him walk and bring Blount and Burkhead back.

I go after Zach Brown which we should of done last off-season as I pined for. >> 100% agree

I bring back Danny at a slightly higher salary he earned it. >>> Agreed

We go into the draft needing Linebacker D Line O line defensive back and Developmental QB >>> I would like to draf a QB next year. OL we are fine. If we get Brown i would use our top picks( 31,43,63,96) = ILB/DE/SS/TE

Solder is great player and better person but he is injured a good amount of the time and Waddle and Cannon can protect the franchise.

Solder missed 12 games in 2015. In his other six seasons, encompassing 96 regular season games and 16 playoff games, he's missed a whopping total of four. Solder is not "injured a good amount of the time", and $9M isn't going to keep him from retiring.

Meanwhile, Waddle has missed more games due to injury in 5 years (27) than Solder has missed in 7 years (16). Like Cannon, he's been fine at RT but struggled at LT

I pick up Thomas if Denver cuts him

Thomas is 30. The Pats already have four 30+ WRs (including Amendola). Thomas will also likely be significantly more expensive than any Pats WR not named "Cooks".

If the unthinkable happens and Gronk retires I go after Eifert.

Eifert has missed over 50% of his games during his 5-year career, including 22 of the last 32 due to a back injury (for which he's undergoing yet another off-season surgery, repotedly).

I'm in the camp that we can find a good blocking tight end cheaper or in the draft.

That's wishful thinking.

I still wonder if we try to get Tom Savage at some point

Did you see Savage play at all this season? Hoyer is much better.

Jimmy Graham is going to get offers worth more than $5.5m based on his name and position scarcity.

More importantly he is an awful fit for our team. He would essentially be the Amendola of TEs mostly used in the RZ and on third downs. Everywhere else his presence would give away pass plays since he is useless in the run game as a blocker.

Solder is great player and better person but he is injured a good amount of the time and Waddle and Cannon can protect the franchise.

Waddle and Cannon have missed more games for injury than Solder.

I take a flier on Sherman 10 Mill over 2 years

I think you mean 20m over 2 years (10m avg) right ? Even then I would not pay a CB who will be 30 and coming back from an achillies injury that amount of money. Unless you get him to not only accept this reduced salary but also most of it via incentives.

I pick up Thomas if Denver cuts him

Expensive, not younger than any of our older players and useless in an offense that doesnt need upgrades.

I look for linebackers who are sitting on the bench or are coming off Injuries.

Those are exactly people like Elandon Roberts. Usually if they sit on a bench there is a reason for it and it won't really give our defense any big push.

I'm in the camp that we can find a good blocking tight end cheaper or in the draft.

I am not a huge fan of paying Allen 5m but I think you are oversimplifying how difficult it is to find someone who is considerably cheaper and is guaranteed to get understand all the protection schemes and perform as well. That being said FA would still be easier than finding that player in the draft.

It all comes down to value and for that you have to take everything into account and not just salary.

I actually had high hopes for him at the time
I did too. It actually made me feel a little better after the SB, I was that excited about him.

Kinda learned a lesson to not get hopes up too high for guys coming from different leagues. The odds are just too low.

For one if anyone calls you a troll its stupid. you have given reasons behind your logic which i like.

I think we have a good chance for Solder to resign simply because of his family situation and he may not want to uproot them for a few years of extra football for a couple more million i imagine it won't be worth it for him.

Thomas, would have to be a good deal for us to get him i feel and i'm not sure if we need him.

Zach Brown, would be another good addition as this will improve the LB and will give us a chance to Blitz HT more which can only help.

Sherman would be very good. I can see him wanting out of Seattle personally, i think they could be in a rebuilding phase.

One free agent who i would really like to have here is Sheldon Richardson as he is a pass rushing ability up the interior.

I was really hopeful Marsh could’ve turned into something for us, but during his time here, he never seemed to change. If the coaches weren’t coaching, that’s on them. I’m gonna guess that wasn’t it though and Marsh just couldn’t help himself. He was never very successful setting the edge, he had a tendency to get pushed around in running situations, he couldn’t cover, and when he rushed the passer he would bow too much and overplay the pocket completely. He was a big liability. Wish we could’ve coached him up, but the staff must have seen it as a lost cause.

Howe thinks Lewis is gone
