Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

The performance issues are based in being duffucult to coach, not picking up the schemes that were in the gameplan and if you are so naive to think there wasn’t an attitude issue, rule violation or something of that sort, I don’t know what to telll you.

There are many reports of issues and you are citing the 2 people in the world who would never make them public.

Belichick also said it was a complicated situation and would be a long explanation

If you want to think belichick spent 4 years playing and relying on butler yhen one day re-evaluated him entirely differently for no reason you simply are out of your mind.
If the issues were that apparent then B.B. had no business keeping Butler on as as the starter all season long. The team was obviously not prepared for this decision. Guys like Richardson who should not even on the field were getting tons of snaps and throwing Chung in a slot corner role is idiotic.

If only we had a Richardson we could of kept Richards off of the field.

Eagles took full advantage of belichick's blunder.

If I had to guess, I’d have to side with this theory, too, especially since Rowe admitted to playing with the ones all week long in practice. It probably wasn’t a total shock to everyone, like has been suggested.

I’m guessing that maybe Butler was informed of the decision that he wouldn’t play right before the game, and Belichick wasn’t going to change his mind whether they gave up 10 or 50.
Yes, I’ve seen it reported that Butler was the nickel back in practice which would indicate he would play a lot, given how often the Pats are in sub packages. But it sure looked like the entire team was surprised with the complete, game long benching.

The issues occurred during Sb week

That was the game plan so of course they were prepared for it.
Richards played 16 snaps.

It did affect the coverage assignments on agholor and ertz. They may have still killed us but Chung should’ve been glued to ertz all game with a corner on agholor.
That’s not a butker issue that’s a decision to play big nickel.
The big nickel was obviously used because of their OL and running gane and even then we didn’t hold up.
If we played regular nickel we probably would have allowed 250 rushing yards.

Rowe was the 3rd corner, who replace Butler as the new 2nd corner. Butler dropped off the map, so ther was a new 2nd corner, new 3rd corner etc, ergo obvious domino effect.
There was no 3rd corner.
We played big nickel and 4 safety dime.
We have played big nickel a lot.

In the regular season we played 1060 defensive snaps.
Corners played 2765
Safeties played 2931

Playing big nickel was more common than regular nickel. In this gane based upon the opponent the scheme was. Big nickel.

There either was a domino effect or Belichick and Patricia are the Milli Vanilli of coaching, considering they never played the best TE cover SS in the league Chung on Ertz, while playing him in the slot, they played Rowe outside instead in the slot, they played DMac on Ertz instead of helping Rowe, then they used Bademosi outside when he played the majority of his previous snaps in the slot.

16-year olds on Madden would have done a better job with the match-ups.

So either this was a horrendous game plan full of mismatches, or it was a good game plan that went sour when Belichick decided to get rid of Butler and handicap the entire defense because of it.

Apparently not a game plan that the rest of the team was aware of. Having, Rowe start over Butler is not the same as Butler not playing at all. I’ve not seen a single report come out of the game indicating the team was aware of this game plan to not only demote Butler but bench him entirely for the game. Rowe said he found out shortly before the game he was starting, so not a well known game plan. Was that starting role a surprise? No, Rowe took starting reps in practice, but again the no role on the defense at all thingsure looked like a surprise. And yes, if the game plan was we need to get Richards on the field for 16 snaps then someone should staged an intervention

Understood. Terrible decision to stay in the big nickel. Take your chances sacrificing some run defense in order to upgrade the coverage. The only good decision we made on defense the entire night was switching Gilmore to Jeffrey. They still ran well against the big nickel and also exposed two great matchups for them (ertz, agholor).

Exactly, we used a safety or two safety’s in slots that should be a corner slot. That’s the domino. Benching Butler put safeties in positions to cover wide receivers. It failed miserably.

So since you haven’t read a report about something that would never get reporters any way that means thr fand plan they used was the game plan they installed? THAT is something that would get reported.
If you seriously think they scrapped the entire game plan Sunday afternoon and created a new one and no one has commented on that yet you are delusional.

Rowe said he found out shortly before the game he was starting, so not a well known game plan.

Rowe was with the 1s all week. Reiss says the captains new butler would play a diminished role days before the game.
Not sure why Rowe practicing as a starter but not realizing until kickoff it was official is meaningful.

Half of Richards snaps were when chung was injured. The other half was a package to match up against something thry saw.

I’m lost about what you are arguing.

We watched the gane plan but now it seems you are arguing it wasnt he gane plan
