Better than the real thing I’d bet......he’s my youngest and he’s a great kid but everything is a great idea until it’s not ....spontaneous to a fault, he’s basically a 6’4” Stu.....it’s possible I would have shot him myself

They all learn soon enough.

Either when they get job, have a kid, get married, have a mortgage or pay taxes.

I'm not trying to be a jerk and I apologize for coming off that way. I just don't understand how people think the defense played better in the second half. That's literally the opposite of the game I watched...
I think they pretty much sucked in both halves, but the first half saw them allow the mid-20s, or what should’ve been without the missed XP or failed two point conversion, I suppose. Hard to go anywhere put up after that kind of showing.

As you mention, the less number of points in the second were more costly, particularly since they flooded 10 at the end. I don’t see the clock factor as much of an issue as you do, perhaps due to the fact that we came back from a 10 pt deficit and were leading with half a quarter to play. I do agree with most of what you’ve said, though.

Oh he’s a work before play and does great in school, but after that, his vocabulary is limited to ‘sure! Let’s do it!’

See my above response. I don’t think there’s anywhere else to go with this. Just a slight difference in opinions and I can see both sides.

So you disagree that giving up more third/4th downs in the 2nd half, despite only half as many drives, and letting Philly kill the clock with drives that took more time off the clock than the first half, is an improvement over the first half, simply because they didn't give up as many points? If your answer is yes... I give up.

.....in college there is nothing wrong with that.

Ok ok. I'll just chalk this up to difference of opinion. I think failing to get off the field and giving up clock killing Drives that end in points when you are trailing is worse than giving up shorter, quicker drives, that occasionally end up with a stop, earlier in the game.

I'll resign from further comment, because as you said, there's no where else for this to go.

I’ll believe the people with sources inside the Patriots.

Minnehan’s source said yesterday that Belichick had soured on Butlers play and wanted to take him out against the Jags but was talked out of it. He told the Coaches and Captains a few hours before the game Butler wasn’t going to play. It wasn’t about discipline. Shefter, maybe the best out there, said his sources also said it wasn’t disciplinary.

So I’ll choose to believe those with sources in the organization. Belichick put him on the bench due to his play, not because he was disciplining him. What I, and 99% of the other rational people out there can’t understand, is why the hell he kept him on the bench.
Minihan lol.
Reiss said captains told him they knew 2-3 days before the game.

If you can’t ubderstand why it’s because you don’t know what happened. Butler seemingly had a melt down at the anthem. It’s entitely possible his actions that day and his demeanor changed it from cb3 to we just can’t afford to play this guy.

Many reports including those with sources have alluded to issues. Belichick is not going to throw him under the bus.

The bottom line is Bill Belichick doesn’t make rash and stupid football decisions. So if you think that’s what he did, you need to consider there are facts you do not know and get probably tell a different story.

Please let me know when you offer any value to the discussion.

Pissant.

I have talked extensively about the (disaster) domino effect benching Butler has on the entire secondary.

OROH you have added nothing beyond B.B. is perfect benching Bulter couldn’t have possibly been a mistake.

Regardless of the reasoning by B.B. objectively the results were the worst playoff D in the history of the franchise, perhaps with the exception of the loss to the Chargers in the AFC championship game.

There weee no adjustments beyond putting Gilmore on Jeffries to no effect on the overall performance of the D, which continued to be abysmal.

My understanding is that the captains may have known Butlers was not going to starting a couple of days before the game, but but the whole going from starting 98% of the plays over the season to not playing at all even when the secondary was in the midst of a game long total breakdown was pretty much of a surprise to everyone.

we never lost to the chargers in an afc title game

i think butler being a jackhole was a mistake

he just couldn’t quite make it and be a team

If I had to guess, I’d have to side with this theory, too, especially since Rowe admitted to playing with the ones all week long in practice. It probably wasn’t a total shock to everyone, like has been suggested.

I’m guessing that maybe Butler was informed of the decision that he wouldn’t play right before the game, and Belichick wasn’t going to change his mind whether they gave up 10 or 50.

Sure the defense played bad. Defenses play bad sometimes. So do offenses. It happens a lot less here than anywhere else.

That’s just wrong. There were adjustments. They got outplayed. But the eagle defense was just as bad and if not for the strip sack we win the game.

My instinct is butler handled the demotion poorly and that led to ruling him out. As we all witnessed during the anthem he appeared to come unglued.

There was no domino effect. Rowe replaced butler.
