I fear the Colts may have a case and the NFL does hate us. Apparently some of the coaches that Josh brought in to Indy have signed deals.. they will be there or get paid. I hope Kraft knows what he is doing because Josh worth 1st round draft picks. We need talent badly.

There are probably four people on the planet who know what BB's contract is, and I dont think any of those four post on message boards. Probably a 3-5 year window at most for the Goat Coach.

Josh gets a big bump and will be in the Captains Chair after BB decides to hang it up.

Oh and it screwed the Colts, so I am completely good with it, no matter what,

this story rings a bell?

The film shows an Associated Press story from 1984 that said Belichick had accepted the job as Minnesota’s defensive backfield coach and then “changed his mind” and turned down the position. Steckel said Belichick had been offered the job as defensive coordinator and also would work with the defensive backs.

“I knew Bill was an extremely bright guy,” said Steckel, who first met Belichick when Steckel was on Navy’s coaching staff in 1977 along with Belichick’s father, Steve. “So I told him I wanted to hire him as the defensive coordinator.”

“He said he wanted to meet with several more people in the organization, and here’s the punch line that no one knows about. He went back to his hotel room that night and he said he just wanted to mull things over. The plan was we were going to meet with Bill at 8 a.m. the next day and talk about salary and those things. I thought it was a done deal.“

“Then at 6 o’clock the next morning, I was up and ready to go to the office and Bill calls me. He says, ‘Les, I need to tell you something. I’m at the airport and I’m going home ’ I say, ‘But Bill, we haven’t even had a chance to sit down and talk yet.’ He said, ‘Les, I’ve talked to several people in the building and I would just like to say to you that you had better be alert, you had better be aware. I just don’t have a good feeling, Les.’ ”

Steckel tried to get Belichick to say who he had spoken with and why he had an uneasy feeling.

“He just said, ‘Hopefully, you’ll see,’ ” Steckel sad. “He said, ‘I don’t want to go any further, and I have to go catch this flight.’ And that was it.”

To this day, Steckel isn’t sure why Belichick turned down the job and who he spoke with at Winter Park. He does know he talked with then-general manger Mike Lynn, who would fire Steckel a year later.

On the ESPN film, Belichick said he considered taking a job as a Minnesota assistant because there was uncertainty surrounding the future of Parcells, who was 3-12-1 in his first season coaching the Giants.

“(The Vikings) called me and they said, ‘Would you be interested in coming up here and working for the Vikings?’ ” Belichick said. “And so I talked to Bill, and Bill said, ‘You know what, we’re on shaky ground here. If you want to go, go ahead; do what you want to do.’ ”

Belichick told ESPN the interview “was good” in Minnesota but that his loyalty to Parcells is why he decided to remain with the Giants.

“That probably is what made me want to stay more than anything,” Belichick told ESPN. “And so I came back and said Bill, ‘I’m not going to Minnesota and I want to be here and I want to do everything I can to make this work.’ ”

Belichick became the Giants’ defensive coordinator in 1985 and helped them win Super Bowls with Parcells following the 1986 and 1990 seasons.

This is better than anything. I may laugh the rest of my life

Josh is like the groom not showing up for the wedding with everybody waiting at church to be with his buddies.

HC McDaniels Age 41
GM Caserio Age 42
DC/assist. HC Flores Age 36 (if not hired away)

Whenever the time comes, our transition team will be loaded with talent & experience. All we need is a 25 year old QB with three years of development & the second era is going to be as good as you can hope for following the greatest one ever.

Josh may be the coach after bill but it's not because bill decided he had one more ride in him. If bill knows next year is his last then why not just call it a day now.
Couldn’t you ask this question to anyone in any job who has decided to stay/work one more year? Why did Manning play one last year? Bird? ARod? Favre?

I mean—maybe he wants to honor his contract? Maybe he’d rather have the 10m dollars or so that he’ll make. Maybe he’s agreed to a year where he’ll offer some guidance in a transitional type of understanding, in terms of drafting the next QB, getting some cap issues resolved, etc? Maybe he wants to continue to teach his sons in the hope that Steve will be promoted? Maybe he’s got a bad taste in his mouth after losing this SB and wants one more chance at winning?

There are lots of scenarios, but I’m not getting your idea that he’d either quit today or want to coach another handful of years? How can you be so sure that there’s no happy medium?

Karma's a *****, Colts fans... now go hire...

JEFF FISHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NFL Network said just now 2018 is last year.

What case would that be?

I assure you that Josh didn't sign any contracts because now rhat would be a supernova type revelation.

They don't own the rights to Josh. The patriots do.

Irsay...... drowning his sorrows.

The offense had a good game. The defense did not. Josh is the OC. Matt is the DC. You said Kraft would promote Patricia over McDaniels any day. I said except after that Super Bowl. The premise being, you would promote someone who performed well in the SB rather than someone who performed poorly in the SB.

I disagree. As I stated above in a reply to another post, Patricia is the DC, not the GM. The defense playing garbage in the SB, was primarily a result of Butler not being in the game (Belichick's decision), which shifted the whole defensive scheme and game plan around that situation. Unfrotunately for Patricia, he is forced to coach whatever the front office deals him.

The colts shouldnt have announced this until the contract was signed especially after hearing rumors last week that he is having second thoughts.

I may not know what Belichick contract is technically but for all intents and purposes it is year to year (with Belichick holding the option). He can come back to the team if he wants to or he can retire if he wants to.

From Reiss` piece on Josh staying:

In the end, the strength of those relationships -- coupled with some reservations about the Colts -- were a big factor in his decision to not go through with it.

Whoever thought it was a great idea to fly Irsay in for the second round of interviews before the SB made a huge mistake.
