Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

You're right, I should have been explicit in that there was an extremely small chance that the Eagles put up 41 with Butler in the game. That said, if you believe that they would have... But hey, if that's the straw you wish to grasp onto, go nuts. Wouldn't be the fist time.

The only "straw" I'm grasping on to is the FACT that I'm not clairvoyant and that I know you aren't either. You don't have the first clue what would have happened or how the game would have changed if Butler played. NEITHER do I. I'm happy accepting that. You clearly aren't. You'd rather have some fantasy that Butler being on the field would have made it so Rowe wouldn't miss tackles.. So Chung wouldn't miss tackles.. That the Patriots would have been perfect..

Unlike you, I'm a realist. I'm disappointed in the loss. I'm disappointed that Butler didn't play more than on Special Teams. But there is no way to judge BB's decision without more information, so I will withhold judgement.

Most yards ever given up by a Belichick defense, 583 yards tonight

Sat his 2 time champion starting CB former pro bowler.

Makes zero sense.

What makes a lot of sense however is those huge million dollar bets for the Eagles the days before the Super Bowl

.

Issues with moving on? That's all of us. This is football. We dissect stats, players, and number of championships from the 1930s onward and can rattle them off the top of our heads. I notice you didn't have ask which Carroll play I was talking about, right? Because you immediately knew exactly what boneheaded play I was describing, just like everybody will immediately know that boneheaded coaching decision Bill made when he held out his best corner, stood watching idly by as his defense got destroyed by Nick Foles, and refused to correct the situation when he easily could have.

Speak for yourself. I could not give a rats ass about any historical discussions or meaningless arguments about past teams. I watch football because I like the sport, this team and mostly to be entertained.

On that level this season was overall a success from my point of view because we got to watch this team for 22-24 weeks (including the preseason) and most of it was entertaining.

My problem is not that BB decide to bench Butler—although I have no f—ing clue why.

My problem is that I can't understand why he continued to keep Butler on the bench when (A) Butler is one of the better tacklers they have, and (B) one of their biggest problems was an inability to stop passes short of the sticks from being turned into first downs.

What the heck was wrong for him to decide that Butler still wasn't worth bringing in?

He’s a stubborn **** with an ego, that’s why.

There’s some critical info we don’t have. Without that, it’s going to be hard to know. I don’t understand why B.B. would do this but that’s why he gets paid to make decisions. Personally, I’d have it butler in the game just to see if anything got better but it’s hard to go against bill. If this is something dumb then I don’t know

And this sums up exactly what I was screaming about all game.

DMac said he knew going into the game what was happening.

That’s fine if Dmac knew. And if butler Fd up then BB will do what’s best for the team. But the entire team needs to know what’s going on, as Rowe and Gilmore didn’t.

o_O You sound like a really calm guy. Glad you're pleased with how everything went down.

Time for Krafty Bob to jettison coach coconuts...raally? What a joke of a game plan on D...

Really makes no sense. I can’t get my mind around it

Fan of participation trophies?

The band wagoners will eventually be gone and the real fans will remain. There will be less winning, but there will be more genuine, rational football conversation.

Eagles receivers did little damage after Gilmore put the straps on Jeffrey. Ertz, Clement and the run game were killing them. Unclear how much Butler would have helped given that and Bedard wrote an article a little while ago about how Butler was struggling and blaming his teammates for mistakes that were his. Inclined to give B.B. the benefit of the Doubt here

Butler went from hero to zero. Listen the guy has had his struggles but he's better than Jordan freaking Richards!!! The guy won us a damn super bowl with that int. Idk how you treat a guy like that.

There are only 3 explanations for the Butler benching (he basically played 95% of our snaps all season long).

1. BB knew Butler was gone next year and said i'm going with the players who will be here next year
2. Off-field issue
3. Kraft wants to resign Butler and BB is making a point

If it's 1 or 3, i'm pissed because BB put his ego ahead of the team. If it's #2 than we'll see.

You still play butler.

Richards was not a slot corner. He has a very narrow role as safety/lb in certain subpackages. That is how they even got him matched up on that wheel route.

How did those match ups work out for us? Guess Malcolm wouldn't have helped shift coverage responsibilities? Maybe King would have helped tonight?
