I would talk about 4 units tonight. And I would slot the coaching unit very low among the 4

1.Offense

2. Special teams
3 (tie)Coaching/Defense

Fair.

They are really well coached. But phillys offense has so muchhhhhhh talent everywhere. To me the pats didn’t have much talent on the front 7 on their defense this year. They got pushed around quite a bit this year more than we’re accustomed to.despite what the stars may say the defenses in 2014 2015 and 2016 were better defenses

Philly won because the Patriots linebackers and lower end DBs couldn't keep up with mediocre opponents. As (I think) Primetime observed, we can probably lay at least some of that off on the coaching. No Butler = all other players having to play above their slot, when most of them were probably already playing at least 1 slot too high*.

*Again, I make no judgment about that call at this time, beyond the obvious on-field issues that resulted.

This defense was so bad that i don't remember the eagles punting.
We ended up with the ball at like the 35 when they did
Alan Branch essentially checking out for the entire season really was one of the biggest hits apart from Hightower's injury. Brown/Branch at peak shape would have been a great combo.

Teams ran against us all year. Had a bad feeling it would do ya in eventually. Philly had too much talent. This wasn’t the jags o line we were facing. Talent up and down that philly offense. Maybe things would’ve been different if we jumped out to a lead. I thought they could move the ball but I didn’t expect 41 points.

How’d you bet the game tonight?

If not for the strip they win this game.

Yeah, this is probably true. Worth noting is that, had Brady gotten that ball out, his intended receiver was wide open for a play that probably would have hit for 20 or 30 yards. But shoulda, woulda, coulda

I love the pissing matches between the pansies and REAL pats fans..

These things happen. If it always comes down to an end of game drive - eventually you get bit

Good God, did you watch the game? He was invisible, unless you count he TDs he gave up. One of the best safeties in the league would have at least made one play.

He made plays at the LOS on various downs. From what I have seen it was mostly Harmon that played the deep safety with DMac actually being closer to the box with various responsibilities. The fact that you didn't hear his name too often is actually a positive.

The one big play he ****ed up was the Ertz TD at the end. Because he gave up inside leverage on it. That being said it was brilliant play design by the Eagles who motioned his inside help away before the snap and the Pats didn't really adjust.

Which lead to Jordan Richards getting more playing time

Right, Chung played in the slot so Richards played Chung's usual hybrid safetybacker position and two things became clear: Chung, who is one of the best box safeties in the league, is a bad cover guy playing at the line in the slot and Richards shouldn't be playing in the NFL at all.

Just wait only 8 weeks till bill drafts another injury laden guy in the first rd

Honestly this CB / secondary really played to its absolute limit for each slot. Ergo, when you shift Butler out and end up with Chung on Nelson A. - it's a domino effect that's immediately noticeable. They could not bail out that front seven as they've done all season.

Just a note... only once this year did any team put up more than 30 points on the Eagles D -Rams posted 35.... with the missed fg & xp, Brady would've put up 37.
Brady is the goat.

Nothing BB did was out of character. So your entire argument is totally absurd.
LMFAO. The guy who brought up autism and compared the regular season benching of Jonas Gray to the benching of Butler, but only on defense, for the entire superbowl is calling my argument absurd. Keep digging buddy, there's gotta be a clue down there somewhere.

The thing most people dont talk about is that we lost the turnover battle essentially 1:3 with that 4th down stop and missed FG.

This and bad execution (Cooks not diving for first down, mishandle FG snap, Brady dropping a catchable pass) made the margin of error razor thin.

How’d you bet the game tonight?

Ok. Went with the spread on the Eagles expecting a close win. Nice silver lining I suppose..

Do they? Jeffrey didn't have 100 yards in any game this year after being frustratingly inconsistent his whole career, Agholor was on the verge of being cut this off-season, Torrey Smith is a one note player who hasn't even hit that note in years, Jay Ajayi wasn't wanted by the Dolphins, Clement is a UDFA, and we know Blount's foibles. Ertz is good but a step below Kelce, let alone Gronk.

The offensive line is certainly exceptional but otherwise this isn't the 2007 Patriots.
Jeffery didn’t have 100 yards so he must be a bum right? The guy can play and has always had a lot of talent. He caught 9TDs agolohr was nice for them this year. Ertz was a top 3 tight end this year. Ajayi got traded, so what. Wayne Gretzky got traded too. Good players get traded. You’re arguments on this are weak in my opinion

The oline did ok.....I think the entire offense thought they had it in the bag.....
The Oline did a great job all game, until the last 2 drives. It’s like they gave up. Mason, who played great all game, will go down as the GOAT of this game. Choked when he was needed most. That strip sack was inexcusable. It was the play of the game. I was praying all game, the Pat’s D would get one of those, ONE stop, ONE fumble recovery, ONE sack.

After getting 11 or 12 sacks in the 2 playoff games, they NEVER touched Foles. The defensive performance was legendarily BAD, Embarrassingly BAD. You could not get any worse. Yet the team STILL had a chance to win the game. Eagles D was just as bad, but Mason gives up the strip sack, chances really ended on that play.

Just a horrible coaching job by Belichick and Patricia, two defensive geniuses couldn’t figure it out. Sitting out Butler was just incredibly poor coaching by Belichick. Start him as the slot CB, he could’ve helped on Agahlor, who torched us all game. Having Richards out there was bad too. Just a very bitter feeling. This is probably the end of the Dynasty, you only get so many chances to get to a SB, and the way they played in this one, they were truly out coached. Butler and Branch probably would’ve made a difference.

I think people would be more comfortable had it been a demotion to CB3 (maybe even DB6)) rather than a benching.

I don't post here very often, although I'm always lurking, at least twice a day for the past few years, but I have to say, the Butler situation hurts almost as much as the loss itself. I agree he might not be CB1 material, but the guy always gives his all, plays with his heart and is probably one of the best tacklers on the roster. If it's a health issue, I'll take back everything I'm saying here, but if it was just BB choice, it's just so really disappointing in so many levels. Butler might be gone next year and this just hurts real bad, at least for me, to see a Patriots SB hero, a guy who earned two rings and ALWAYS competed hard, to leave like this. It's just really sad, I must admit this whole situation made me feel a little depressed.
