Post Game Thread- Super Bowl Edition

The defenders were in phase on the long throws the Eagles connected on, the balls were just placed well and the receivers made good plays. The bigger issue was those 8-10 yard routes or missed tackles.

I said many NSFW things when Rowe blew that 3rd and 12. That was a huge moment in the game.

They got to the friggin SB with those players so what is your point ? I mean if you keep drafting in the 30s you will not have access to blue chip players on defense.

Patricia and BB coached their ass off this year to even get this team that far. Add in McClellin, Rivers, Hightower and a Branch who gives a **** and it is a different defense.

Bill and the pats defense was not good today.

Anyone who wants to argue otherwise isn' worth the time.

I’m reallt not buying butler would’ve made that big of a difference, as much as I’d like to believe it

When the game comes down to a few third (or fourth) down stops, a big play here or there... yeah, the cascading effect of Butler's absence did make a difference. Probably a decisive one. And that's without pretending Butler is a top-tier corner or anything.

Neither offenses nor defenses are perfect, but the Patriots put up 12 in the first half, even with the missed PAT. If you want to question the play call of Cooks on that run, I'm on board with that. But saying that the offense was trash in the first half, which is what that poster said, just makes that poster's analysis worthless.
They got 2 FGs from inside the 10, and lost a drive on downs. They have not been jumping out on teams enough - it was an issue all year.

Great game, congrats to the Eagles. Knew this would be a close one, like all our SB are. For once we didn't get the breaks, and when you're in it against a really good team like the Eagles, that's all it takes sometimes.

I, like most, am mystified by what Jordan Richards was doing playing a critical role in the defense. The Eagles clearly targeted him to good effect, and I place a couple of drives on his shoulders for them not being able to get off the field on 3rd down. I can understand not playing Butler, they were looking for a larger group so that they could play the run and at the same time be competitive with the pass and so they felt Rowe was a better matchup. He seemed to play okay, it was the lack of ability to pressure Foles and our dearth of LB depth. Bademosi and others missed critical tackles that could have gotten them off the field.

I don't like whining about officiating, but to look at those two TD calls and not get one go our way was almost absurd given the standards they've set.

Anyway, c'est la vie, the other guys get paid too and for once we didn't end up on top at the end. I am well into the "gravy" phase of our dynasty and it's impossible to feel too badly about it.

Offensive cannot do anymore than they done tonight. If you score over 32 points in a Super Bowl you should win. Period.

I don’t blame the O-Line. They played well and done all they could.

What I do blame is are lacklustre defence. Gilmore was incredible for us, once again. James Harrison was good as well. Apart from that everything else was very poor. Didn’t even hear Trey Flowers name once.

End of the day eagles were better and deserved to win.

Brady was at his brilliant best once again but it’s a team game and there’s only so much he can do.

Defence Wins championships. We didn’t have one. That’s it.

We will be back but my god my draft is going to
Change dramatically..

I said earlier I thought it was a very late decision. Belichick needs to explain this - he is going to get a lot of heat.

What's he care? He will just flip the media and the fans the bird and keep doing whatever the hell he wants while answering to nobody and disrespecting everyone around him. It's one thing when the team is winning. It's something else completely when they are not just losing, but gagging in epic fashion. Nick Foles is a joke. And Bill lost to him. That cannot happen. Not when you are being paid 8 figures to coach a football team.

Thanks for the great year. Sad it came up a game short. Brady was great , defense was horrible. See you next year.

4th and 3 pick play looked to be within 1 yard of LOS, but maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah and even if it wasnt, we're the last team that should be complaining about that concept. The officials called a good game, this wasn't on them.

FWIW there's rumblings from some specious sources (Merloni and Tanguay) that the whole 'flu' thing was a cover, and Butler actually missed the flight.

They got 2 FGs from inside the 10, and lost a drive on downs. They have not been jumping out on teams enough - it was an issue all year.

You conveniently chose to ignore the TD. They put up 13 (XP is on the ST, not the O) in the first half. That's a 26 point pace, for a team that didn't receive the ball to start, and didn't get the ball until half of the first quarter was already over.

Could have done better. Sure as hell wasn't trash.

I really hope there is a reason we are not aware of for Butler not playing. I realize he has not been as good as in years past, but he was still infinitely better then what was put on the field. And even in a bad game, when has Butler ever given up?

It makes me truly sick to my stomach that the guy who did this could get treated like this on the way out. Please let there be some reason beyond BB arrogance.

I don't like losing, but after 5 superbowls, I'll sleep fine.

But it really bothers me that Malcom Butler would be treated like this. Even more then the loss. So I really hope there is more to it then this, and this isn't BB's ego. Cause if it is, it just bit him and the team in the ass, not to mention makes Bill look foolish. Because the eagles never freaking punted! And on the go ahead touchdown, we had Badimosi (or however you spell his name) covering Ertz. With freaking Malcom Butler on the bench.

Yeah and even if it wasnt, we're the last team that should be complaining about that concept. The officials called a good game, this wasn't on them.

They missed what looked to be an obvious false start on a huge play, and they blew the TD call on the pass to Clement. When we're looking at the blame pie, they get a slice.

Whatever. You have seen BB operate for 17 years exactly the same way. He did what he does and this has brought this team 5 championships and 8 SB trips. His program is what makes this team work and if a player doesn't fully submit then he will not play.
Welker elaborately insulted a head coach of an opposing team and got benched for a QUARTER . As said before, if* the reports are true, BB is being inconsistent. Having Butler play on special teams invalidates most arguments as it proves Butler was able and allowed to play. I've been a staunch BB supporter for a generation, so it isn't easy to see it this way.

Such behavior by BB is shocking and contradictory to how he typically operates. Either there is more to the story, which seems unlikely since Butler played ST, or there are changes in BB that are affecting his decision making... not uncommon in people who are 60+.

Seriously man, when you start comparing benching frickin Jonay Gray in the regular season to benching Butler, but not for special teams, for the entire superbowl, it is time to examine your own argument. As I said before, there could be some bizarre rational reason, but considering he played ST and BB himself said it wasn't disciplinary, it looks very unlikely.

You have yet to give a plausible explanation and have resorted to absurd comparisons to support your argument. Perhaps you should find a less rational poster to engage in this topic with.

Bill and the pats defense was not good today.

Nobody is saying the defense was good tonight, quite the opposite. Point is that they were good enough to get the number 1 seed and to the SB. So lets not freak out about them as if we went 0-16 or something..
