Alex Smith will be TRADED to Redskins

It’s not an auction. Cousins chooses not the team. Many teams can offer just as much as the jets money wise and obviously more in terms of a desirable franchise.
Money talks.

A lot teams with cap space probably aren’t looking for a QB(atleast in free agency aka the browns). Denver would have to cripple their cap space to get him. Elway hinted at a trade up. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen though obviously.

I’m pretty confident cousins will end up a jet. Ill go as far as to guarantee it. If I’m wrong. I’ll admit I was wrong

I thought since Bennet was released Green Bay is on the hook for the quarantees?

It's a 2018-specific roster bonus guarantee. Green Bay is only responsible for his signing bonus.

If Bennett is not released before the start of the new league year, the Pats owe him $2M.

They are very much win now. They still believe in that defense. Talib can still play. Sanders hasn’t had a competent QB play since the middle of 2014

Talib and Sanders would need to go to even make room for Cousins, and that's just for starters.

They're cooked if they deal those guys and take on Cousins. They're better off still unloading those guys, pick a QB they believe in for this draft, and do a real, slow rebuild instead.

Elway doesn't understand basic economics. I don't care where he went to school either. Not the brightest bulb in the shed. He got hoodwinked by Dumervil in the faxgate fiasco. Remember that?

What a moron. Signed him to a 17 mil per year, because he had no leverage, asked Dumervil to restructure, and then he his agent dealyed the paperwork to force his release, because the agent knew another team would give Dumvervil what he wanted.

The wheels on the bus go round and round...round and round, round and round...

Quite a guarantee.
Look I don’t think cousins really makes the jets much better and probably will hold them back when they get a team around him, so if they want to give him a boatload of mine him all for it, but I don’t think cousins will want to be a jete and other teams can offer just as much money.

Nice guarantee though. “I guarantee it but I’ll admit I’m wrong when it doesn’t happen”

I hope they are in a win now mode because their roster isn’t and as long as they misread that, the longer they will suck.

That’s likely enough money, and they’ll probably make some cuts to get more cap room anyways.

The cap number isn’t final yet either, it’ll likely expand.

It's going up, as it always spiked a certain amount every few 2 years or so, but that doesn't mean much when it comes to the idea of what a bloated contract represents moving forward.

It's one thing to get the contract on the books, to be able to maneuver easier, `but it's what that contract means for other deals and how strapped the GM is by allowing just ONE bad contract under the cap.

Look at the teams who carry a 20+ mil per year Qb and their cap positions. Look how much money Pitt is going to have tied on offense with Ben, Brown and now Bell. Yikes! Pitt is going nowhere.

Also, the teams with "a ton of cap space", stink. That's why they have so much space....No one wants to go there, unless they just want money.

Look at Jax....They now are forced to pay Bortles probably 25 mil per. They just got Flacco'd, and just wait until Jalen Ramsey. Fournette and Smith want to be paid their top tier money.

Jax will now become the Ravens.

What Jax should do is walk from Bortles, realize he has no other gear, and invest in a rookie deal for a few years, with a good QB prospect or two to build around.

It's that trap teams get into...Their GM lured Malik JAckson, Calais Campbell, Church and Gipson down there, but there is no income tax in Florida.

1. Who would want to live in Jax?
2. Who would think they're going to win a SB anytime soon?
3. They are moving to London soon.

Quite a guarantee.

I said if...

I don’t know about their cap situation but to me zona makes sense for cousins. Fitz if he doesn’t retire is still playing at a high level, you got a beast at rb in David Johnson, the defense is ok but definitely felt the miss of Calais Campbell in the middle of that line. Adding cousins and having Johnson back at rb makes them competitive in the nfc west

I just wanted to note that people are already doing the "Cap space!" thing where they say that things can't be done because of a lack of it, when we've seen example after example of that not being the case.

Just as an FYI, overthecap.com has very complete, accurate and detailed cap and player contract information for every team. It's generally worth checking the site while trying to figure out what teams may be able to afford what free agents.

Arizona Cardinals Salary Cap | Over the Cap

According to them, ARZ has about $8.7M in 2018 cap space at the moment, and about 30 free agents to sign. However, until Palmer officially retires, the Cards cap expenditures still include his (non-guaranteed) $12.5M salary and $1.5M roster bonus for 2018. Once that happens, the Cards would have just under $23M in free space.

Even after Palmer is off the books, however, they'll still have almost $100M of their cap tied up in just 8 players: Fitz, Peterson, Chandler Jones, Mathieu, Veldheer, Iupati, Bucannon and Gresham.

While looking up something else, I stumbled across this interesting tidbit ...

According to Kansas City Chiefs Salary Cap | Over the Cap

until the Alex Smith -> the Skins deal is official, the Chiefs are more than $9M OVER the 2018 cap. Shedding Smith saves them a net of somewhere around $13M, which would leave them about $4M under the cap with 21 free agents to sign, including Bennie Logan, Derrick Johnson, Colquitt, Anthony Sherman.

Excellent news for Patriots QB hopes, if true:

#Jaguars QB Blake Bortles’ wrist surgery shouldn’t alter what was already the plan: For Bortles to be their QB in 2018.

That’s likely enough money, and they’ll probably make some cuts to get more cap room anyways.

Their biggest likely cut (or trade) would be Taylor, which would save them about $9M ($15M after June 1).

They have about $80M tied up in about 10 key players and over $18M tied up in dead money. Everybody else on the roster is $3M or less for cap hit.

Their 208 rookie pool number is about $8.4M (the consequence of having two 1st-rounders). And they'll still have 22 free agents to deal with, including Kyle Williams, Jordan Matthews, Deonte Thompson, Preston Brown and Nick O'Leary.

The cap number isn’t final yet either, it’ll likely expand.

Miguel's working number is $178M. IIRC, he suggested at some point that it could go to $181M, but that extra $3M (if it materializes) won't make a huge difference in most situations.

This is a good deal for the Chiefs. They get:

A solid cornerback on his rookie contract
$17 million in cap space
Additional 3rd round pick

All of those things will help KC shore up its leaky defense.

The Redskins trade a B- quarterback for a B- quarterback that is actually 4 years older. And they also give up one of their best young stars (Fuller).

Simply a crazy trade
