To me it definitely looks like a defender leading with his shoulder and their heads colliding unintentionally. Flag-worthy? Yes, that's the rule so throw the flag, but not dirty.

If anyone has a better image/gif that shows something different I'd love to see it, but based on what I saw I really don't think it was dirty.

Gronk was a defenseless receiver thus the call.

I totally bought into Church's rationalization and thought process before laying the lumber on Gronk. There was no way that hit was dirty. Just illegal.

Here is my take:

Gronk got hit hard and he was dazed, if he was out on he ground for an extended period of time then I would have been worried about him, but he got up and walked all the way to the locker. Obviously it’s the right call to not bring him back in, we don’t need fines from the league. It’s the right thing to do for Gronk as a human being, I rather lose a game over seeing a player risking his life coming back on the field when they show symptoms of concussion.

The media is gonna go crazy about Gronk until mid week next week. He will be listed questionable just like Brady all the way until SB.

I think Zo said something like "If this was 4-5 years ago he'd be back in the game". So I take that to mean he wasn't knocked out, probably had a minor concussion but couldn't pass the test to get back in. So hopefully the 13 days off will give him plenty of time, but concussions are a tricky thing, not everyone reacts and recovers the same way.

I have no idea how bad Gronk's 'concussion' is/was, but I figured the minute they took him of the field and the word concussion was brought up, there was a 95+% chance he was not going to play the rest of the game.

The Patriots not only have to play within the 'rules' but also have to be extremely careful and ultra conservative when it comes to things like this. Even if Gronk 'passed' whatever protocol there was at half time, unless there was 100% no doubt, double checked by 3 independent doctors, with Goodell himself watching the testing, I suspected they would not let him play. Just imaging the uproar and 'concussion-gate' scandal that would have ensued if he actually played in the game, and he actually contributed to the Pats winning.

There are rules, and then then there are even more 'rules' for the Patriots. There were even some rumblings last SB about Edelman maybe being concussed, but he got up quickly and ran into the huddle before anyone could do anything.

Hopefully Gronk is fine. Hopefully he does not even have a concussion.

disagree....if he passed the test, he would have played. Their season was on the line. Your argument really doesn't make sense. You are saying even if Gronk passed the test, they wouldn't play him because the media and the league wouldn't have liked it? No way..

Considering the fact that there wasn’t a game this week and that they were on a bye, I wouldn’t imagine that missing an imaginary week would make any difference whatsoever.

As long as he’s back by Wednesday, it will be the same amount of practice time as always, in addition to the mental stuff he’s been absorbing.

Naturally, as he continues to progress, the odds become that much better for him to be available for Super Bowl LII. I believe he will play and play well. His good, old self. If he’s being ok to drive then the mental part is clear. If he was loopy, they would have him driven around as docs won’t let you drive if your heads not right. The rest of the stuff to get back on the field is probably easier than the mental green light

Not to get all technical here, but if the team's decision must be confirmed by an independent consultant, then the final decision lies with the independent neurological consultant. Odds look better for Gronk than Wise, but I hope both are good. Something like 281 concussions this year is a new high.

LOL that two people disagreed with this. I mean there is LITERALLY an image, right smack dab in front of your face, that shows Church leading with the shoulder and not the helmet. The **** are you disagreeing with? Are you all blind?

My general feeling on the matter is that Gronk will either play or he won’t play.

However he got the Patriots biggest threat out. If the Jags had won the game he would make a bonus of at least 96k (for going to and losing a SB, 148k for winning).

Current financial incentives in the playoffs encourage headhunting.
