2007 Pats Ranked Number ONE Pats SB team

great article. I love looking back at these things. I would like to see one revisiting teams that didn't go to the SB such as 2015, 2013, etc.

I'd rank the 2007 team lower. Saw what Troy Brown said last week following the Jags win, how it was the worst week of practice he's seen IN HIS LIFE. Sounds like they got too ****y and couldn't close the deal. You don't get points for blowing out Buffalo in October. I hear Dan Duquette in my head "More days in first place." You need to close the deal to be #1.

I'd put the 2004 team #1.

This may not be popular, but I think the 96 team was better than the 2011 team. The 96 team went up against a juggernaut with the no. 1 offense and no. 1 defense. There really shouldn't be much shame in losing to them. The Pats did put up some fight, too.

I would too. I’ll say this though, that 2007 team was freaky good. They torched everyone they faced all year, the super bowl was an anomoly

The 07 Patriots were not the same team after Thanksgiving than they were before it.

For that reason and because they did not close they deal there is no way in hell they should be #1.

They are somewhere in the top 5 for sure as they still went 8-1 and won by an average of 27-18

I agree. I have always felt that the 2011 team was a bonus. They should have lost to the Ravens in the AFCCG. I think they were the weakest of the bunch under Belichick. The '96 team should have won that game, and would have, had Parcells given them a real shot. He was more interested in furthering his own agenda than winning that game. I have always felt he wanted to stick it to Kraft, that it was about him, not the team. It was his way of getting back at Kraft for not letting him buy the groceries.

Not that I am bitter over it. Parcells saved this franchise at it's absolute lowest time, and I am grateful that he was here. There's no Belichick/Brady time without Parcells laying the foundation during his time here. It's all part of the history of the franchise.

You can argue it.

96 team had a better defense. They played out of their minds after Thanksgiving.

Offense...while 96 had loads of talent in Glenn, Coates, C-Mart, Jefferson, Byers, Gash because of the wide gap between Drew and Tom I'd take 2011.

2007 Pats are overrated because of the first 10 regular season games, which were absolutely incredible for sure. But their offensive dominance steadily evaporated after that and they "only" looked like the kind of team we've seen every year from like 2009 on. Their run game was mediocre and their OL and especially defense were overrated.

The 2004 team was a machine made to crush the souls of their opponents. Peak defense, peak run game, and Brady's play took a big step up from 2001-2003.

The 2014 team was maybe the most all-around talented top to bottom.

2003 and 2016 had less flash but were such well-oiled machines.

Put yourself in Las Vegas' shoes and try and set a line for 07 vs any of the other teams. I'm pretty sure if your being honest the 07 team would be favored in all cases.

That being said I do think something seems wrong with it being number 1. I guess it's all part of the story. We go 3 out 4 twice and oh those weren't even our best teams right in the middle we went 18-1 too.

I am pleading the Fifth on that 2007 "dancing with the stars Laurence Maroney" season.

Saw this list yesterday and I actually thought the ordering was trash. It was slightly before my time, but 2001 over any of the the 4 juggernauts that won after? Wasn't the whole storyline about that team that they overachieved?

2004 was the best team at the time of the Super Bowl. They beat a 16-1 team on the road in a blowout in the AFCCG. 2007 was the best overall, if you aggregate all of their games.

But that Pitt team almost lost to the Jets! Pitt was good that year but still young. Rookies rarely do well in the playoffs. See the 2010 Patriots.

The Pats demolition of Indy - 20-3 but not that close was one of my favorite games of all time. I remember someone on Indy saying the pats were ripe and ready for picken. Harrison went ape **** crazy when he heard that and you could tell it pissed them off. Dillon just crushed Indy in the wet snow.

everyone is silly about this. You flip the Tyree catch, or the D stops them in any number of spots on that drive where they should have, and NO ONE would be arguing against them. And you Beast Mode runs the ball in with 20 seconds left, that 14 team is a just a footnote in history.

2007 Pats, first 8 games average margin of victory roughly 29.. Last 8 roughly 9 (still pretty great)

18-0 going into SB
18-1 Best record in franchise history, can only be topped by an undefeated season (in terms or record)
18-1 record only done 3 times ever..
18 games in season win streak, NFL record.

absolute fluke SB loss on top of that.

EASILY number 1.
@jimnance sorry Jim, you got nothing on this one... team that wins the Super Bowl is not necessarily the best team in the league. 2007 Pats team far greater than MANY SB champs, including the Giants team that won SB 42. Just a fact, stop being silly about it.

They were very good. But it’s hard to see them beating Elway in Denver had Jax not done it first.

The Patriots offense slowing in the 2nd half of the season is overstated.

First 8 games were all blowouts
9th game was come from behind victory against 7-0 Colts on the road
10th game was 56-10 beat down of Buffalo
11-12th games were admittedly 2 nail biters vs Ravens and Eagles
13th game was a 34-13 beat down of the 9-3 steelers on a short week
14th game was 20-10 over NYJ. As I recall weather led to a low scoring affair
15th game was 28-7. Pats were up 28-0 at half time and spent the 2nd half toying with Miami
16th game was 38-35 against NYG

For the last 6 games they still averaged 29.7pts/game. More than any other team averaged for the season. And that is with one game being weather affected, and one game where they threw the 2nd half.

The thing that hurts the most about that season is that Randy Moss didn't get a ring.

Yup, they were THAT close to a storybook ending.......if Tyree doesn't make a play then Moss has the game winning touchdown.

It was a tough one, but having the extreme fortune of a turnover at the 1 yard line and a 25 point comeback I've learned to cope.
