Thoughts: what if the Vikings make the super bowl?

The league will most likely order the dome closed due to the weather and it will benefit the team with more fans (i.e, noise factor). So the vikings fans will be loud.

I would love the optics of it, a sea of purple. one itty bitty sliver of pats fans. You know that Brady would feed off it.

I think from a logistics POV, it's a huge advantage for the Vikings. They don't need to change what they do on a daily basis, they could really play it as "just another game." I would love to know the NFL's plan for it, as the Vikings shouldn't be allowed to have the home field advantage. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the NFL has a plan if the Vikings make it, and then a plan if the Vikings make it vs. the Patriots. It would be great to know BEFORE hand what the plan is, but I would imagine, knowing the NFL, we won't know that.

The initial plan was to make the NFC team practice at the U of Minnesota since technically, the NFC is the visitor, but they said that if the Vikes make it to the SB, they can practice at home in their facilities and that the AFC rep would be the team that practices at the U of Minnesota.

That’s pretty much all we’ve heard from them so far.

I guarantee you BB will choose the blue unis only to troll the vikings so that they won’t feel like it’s a home game.

Plus everytime they've had the opportunity to pick, the Pats go blue.

If there was one time I thought they might deviate it was Super Bowl 46. I thought they might try anything to change the bad mojo from SB 42.

I definitely think it would be a pro-Vikings crowd. Taking away the need for rooms and flights removes a huge Super Bowl cost. Add in teh Super Bowl fatigue of Pats fans that someone else mentioned. After all, unless you can afford to go to all Super Bowls, why would you choose the one in Minnesota versus Houston and Arizona?

I still would cherish seeing the Pats play the Vikings in the Super Bowl. I want to add another team to our list of Super Bowl conquests, so I'll be rooting for the Vikes/Saints winner to win the NFC.

I think kraft is the one who actually chooses...he probably thinks blue looks better on TV or something. However, i like the look of the white unis.

Last time a team won the super bowl wearing their dark unis was 2010 packers. 12 of the past 13 super bowl winners have worn white.

Hope not cause of the defense, not saying we would lose just would be a tougher match up compared to other teams, so far I'm hoping for a Patriots/Saints Super Bowl
I hear what you’re saying, but the Pats are 23-2 in the postseason when scoring 20 points, and only 12-8 when allowing 20 points. I think it would be difficult to hold the league’s best 1-2 RB punch and stop Brees, Thomas, and the rest of the weapons. Holding them to 10 per half would be quite the accomplishment for a high powered offense like that.

I’m not claiming that playing MIN would be easy, but N.Orleans is the team that I’d least like to play. I think they’re much different than the team we saw in week two.

The saints on the road are a different team...

They'll be playing in a dome, though. If it were the elements, I would think the Vikes run away with this one. That defense is too tough. But the dome is going to be the equalizer when it comes to Saints' O vs. Vikes D.

it's better for the Saints, a dome team, to play on the road in a dome than it is to play in the Minnesota winter.

Yes of course. But playing on the road can present multiple problems and weather is just one of them. In a dome, the saints are going to have to deal with the crowd noise that comes with a closed roof. I just don’t know if NO is mentally tough on the road.

The Saints went 4-4 on the road this season, so it's a valid question. But of those road games they played, one of those losses came in Week 1 to this same Vikings team. The two squads are night and day from where they were then. The Saints defense, for example, has played much better over the course of the rest of the season than they did in the opening weeks.

Vikings making the super bowl would be super weird

I agree, both the saints and vikings are different teams now. Howevet, the saints D has given up its share of points in the latter half of the season (31 each to redskins and tampa bay, for example). In addition they lost kenny vaccaro and alex okafor for the year. I don’t think minnesota will have trouble scoring points on them.

Sounds like the NFL would change some things up if the Vikes make it to the SuperBowl. They'd get to use their locker room and practice facility, instead of the designated one for the NFC. for starters.

Even with NFC as the Super Bowl road team, Vikings would be afforded all of the advantages of home

It would be a huge advantage all around: travel, logistics, and above all fan base. But I've been on record since before the season ended saying the Falcons would represent the NFC, so I get to pretend it's not an issue.

This is going to sound funny, but, if we get there, being in a dome is going to make Tom Brady and the offense even more unstoppable.

Sure, we take pride in crappy New England weather and how well Tom overcomes it. Indeed his dropoff in performance in bad weather is less than probably any other QB.

But he might actually be the best dome QB ever. Despite all dome games being road games for Tom, unlike Brees, and Peyton as a Colt!

An amazingly accurate QB, with no wind to deal with, 72 degrees, reliable footing, and totally relying on his impeccable mechanics.

Playing outdoors is part of the New England identity and we'd never build a dome.

But if we had a dome, as crazy as it sounds, the GOAT might have been even greater, at least statistically speaking. Maybe not wins and losses-wise, since the crappy NE weather does cause the opposing QBs and offenses to fail with high frequency.
