NFL coaching and executives carousel: news and speculation

I guess we'll have to wait and see with Nagy. Maybe he's as good as the guys you've mentioned. I have no clue.
If he was the one who decided to freeze out Kareem Hunt in the 2nd 1/2 he does not deserve to be a HC.

If it was Chumley who took over the play calling I'm not sure what that says about him or Chumley.

Schadenfreude alert!

Ryan Grigson once gave the Browns a first-round pick they wasted, in exchange for a player who wasn’t very good.

Despite all that, they didn’t keep him around.

Via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the former Colts General Manager was let go by the Browns as part of the personnel restructuring which included the addition of Eliot Wolf.

Firing them isn't going to magically make Newton an accurate passer (although a brilliant hire theoretically might help with that), and it's not magically going to make great receivers appear.

Yea that's kinda my point. Not the guy Id call for Cam.

Their WR'S are pretty awful too.

It's a bloodbath in Seattle.

The changes to the Seahawks coaching staff keep on coming.

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that the team has fired assistant head coach/offensive line coach Tom Cable. That report comes a day after the Seahawks dismissed offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and hours after word that they may also be parting ways with defensive coordinator Kris Richard. Quarterbacks coach Carl Davis has also reportedly been relieved of his duties.

Who could they have in mind to replace them?

#Panthers coach Ron Rivera will meet with Norv Turner again today to answer some questions and if it continues to go well, Turner will be the #Panthers new offensive coordinator. His son Scott Turner likely joins the staff, as well.

They're going to need to get a real 1st/2nd down back if they want to run that offense right.

I would assume the read options and RPOs would be few and far between, preserving Cam Newton's career a bit.

Also need to re-vamp that O-line a bit.

All-in-all, could be a pretty successful choice for a new offense. Too bad Ron Rivera is terrible.

Carroll should fire everyone involved with parting ways with Collins. They badly needed a ground game this year and they cut bait with the one guy that was capable of giving them that.

Bears now have hired former Oregon HC Mark Helfrich as their offensive coordinator, per source.

I don't think much of any of those guys either.
They have had good years some longer than others.
For Chumley to say that about a coach who has never been a HC in his life is absurd.

Yeah hard to knock that list of guys this season with 3/5 making the post season, Bowles' team overachieving mildly and Harbaugh being whatever you want to make of him.

Anyways, Mike Lombardi opined on Tuesday that Nagy may not have been hired as the best coach out there, but more as the coach who best fits what they've got to work with currently, if that makes sense. For instance, Lombardi said McDaniels would go crazy trying to install his system with Trubisky under center.

Instead, Bears grabbed Nagy and the Chip Kelly OC - so expect to hear about a new "innovative" system coming together - gotta expect some weird spread / rpo kinda stuff to come out of Chicago. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It looks like the Raiders hired Gruden before even firing DelRio, never mind interviewing minority candidates. Apparently not specifically against the rules, per se, but presumably they would have had to interview the minorities before hiring Gruden, which would have been before firing DelRio.
NFL has no rule or policy regarding hiring a new coach before firing the old one

I especially liked the last paragraph...
This failure to act fairly and even-handedly at all times with all teams has done as much or more to undermine the integrity of and public confidence in the game of professional football as anything that any of the periodically punished teams has done.

The Bills will be on the hunt for a new quarterback this offseason, but they’ll be hiring a new offensive coordinator first.

The team announced on Friday that they have fired offensive coordinator Rick Dennison. The move comes less than a week after the Bills failed to score a touchdown in their 10-3 Wild Card loss to the Jaguars.

Can someone explain why McDaniels would take the Colts HC job?

He had a chance for the Niners job last year and did not go.

I would think the Colts mgmt is not what McDaniels would want to work for...

The Colts management now that Grigson is gone is fine. And he -- potentially, depending on the exact injury details -- has Andrew Luck.

In SF he would have had the same dysfunctional ownership you were attributing to the Colts with York meddling for years. Whether York really learned his lesson and decided to stay out of it we will see in the next 2-3 years. But he has been toxic.
