Re: NFLN: Belichick fined, Pats fined, draft picks lost

Hope they are happy. The League and all of the frauds that have come out from under their rocks to trash the Patriots have their pound of flesh.

I am not certain that they can not appeal this ruling. Could legal action be an option?

What happens of we do it again and get caught....how much worse could that punishment be?

They can appeal the ruling but as John Clayton said that might not be a great choice since you'd essentially just be appealing the ruling to the commish. I'm not happy with this ruling at all but the only way I would have seriously considered appealing was if the league suspended BB. Since there was no suspension I think the Patriots will just take it and move on.....unless they have proof other teams were doing this? :)

Poor Mangini.

Didn't he learn anything from his buddy Tony Soprano about what happens to snitches?

Given the choice of losing the first rounder or a suspension, I'd prefer the suspension. Just get it over with... losing a first rounder is likely losing a player that would help this team for many years.

I mean if they had suspended BB + taken away the pick (you know their making the playoffs). If they had taken away the first and suspended BB that would have seriously pissed me off.

Well, I think this is very harsh, but what can you do about it. Personally, I expected the fines, the draft pick situation is the real slap. But not all draft picks work out (not even ours, although a great deal of them do).

This has been a f*cking horrible week. If we lose to the Chargers on Sunday, I may just crawl into a hole and die. Because I don't think I can take another depressing week like this one.

Don't worry, we're going to kick the Chargers' arses Sunday in one of the most emotional games ever played.

Why do I suspect this is all a show? A FIRST round pick? That seems excessive. I suspect there will be an "appeal" (there must be some provision for these kinds of rulings to be appealed) that Goodell not only expects, but has already negotiated the outcome with Kraft in which the final ruling will be a 2nd round or 3rd round pick at most. This makes Goodell appear tough enough with the initial ruling and can blame the arbitrator for the lesser punishment.

If not, I think the 1st round pick is overkill. We're not talking about the legality of stealing signals, but rather the method. The Pats are losing a 1st round pick over a method. One whose usage provides a debatable advantage at best over "approved" methods of stealing signals.

Regards,
Chris

Great point about it being only a method. That would be good news if an appeal works out that way. Maybe Kraft could give Belichick a 500K raise at a presser after the fine is paid.

Well,

personally, I think that every single member of Patriots Nation ought to take their next bowel movement in a plastic bag and FedEx it to the Commish.

This is way over the top, and I hope that the Patriots take everything they have on the Jets and overnight it to the league, along with everything they have on every other team, and press for the same charges to be leveled.

It might actually be the shortest draft in NFL history. No 1st round picks for anyone! :rocker:

Respects,

I couldn't agree more.....The gloves are off now and Goodell is going to have to hear every case and make the SAME ruling for anything even close to our punishment for the crime.......Like I have said before Kraft should hire special security people who's only job is to watch the opposition's personnel....first sign of binoculars or writing down after lip reading.....and take action....Of course then the media will criticize us for ratting out other teams......You can't win when things are this biased.......

I hope we win the fu%$&*@ Superbowl, so BB can flash Goodell the middle finger on stage in front of the billion people watching. A 1st round pick is ridiculous.

Goodell wants to establish a reputation as a harda$$. Fine, mission accomplished. The rest of the league had better be clean as a whistle. Hmmm, I wonder if the Colts will continue to pump artificial sound into the RCA dome?

And will the colts pump up the humidity and temperature. I don't know. Is it against the rules? I seem to remember a snow plow

Re: NFLN: Belichick fined, Pats fined, draft picks lost

Yes, it can. it can be appealed to the Commissioner of the NFL.

Clayton made it sound like if the Pats appealed the penalty could actually end up being worse? I can't see that. I think what ever the Commish decides is the penalty now will always be the penalty, even if the Patriots were to appeal. Am I correct or is Clayton? Anyways, I don't think they'll appeal so it probably doesn't matter.

It's my understansing that trying to "steal" another teams play signals is not against that NFL rules. Having any kind of camera on the sidelines is against the rules. In that case I think the sentence harsh, but with this Comish I'm not surprised. IMO, it's time to move on. It is what it is.

gonna be an awkward scene when Goodell hands Bill the Lombardi in February.

prediction: 2007 pats will be first team to go undefeated since '72

Bill's pregame speech Sunday (and every week after) is going to be: "They don't think you can win without cheating..."

the silver lining in all this is even though they were the consensus pick for the Super Bowl they are now back to being underdogs. Gotta love it.

Look at it this way, we traded branch for randy moss and to move up in the first round this year. we'd still do that trade, right?

And the best part? They will still have SD's signals figured out by halftime sunday night.

dumb.

This Superbowl will by far be the best one, and the great think is that it's HIGHLY possible.
