This is probably just the tip of the iceberg, and that probably infuriates Goodell more than anything. He expects more out of people who have been in the league for three plus decades and probably know things that would undermine the league's seemingly teflon image (lets face it, even after all the Bengals arrests, Mike Vick, and this, people still like the NFL more than the NBA or MLB).

The league could start getting dragged down to David Sternville if the sign stealing is as common as some claim and more of it comes to light.

Well hopefully the Pats make it the #32 pick that gets taken away.

Too much IMHO, would it have been less if they didn't have multiple 1st round picks.

I could care less about the fine....really the Patriots and BB have millions so the fine isn't that big of a deal when it comes to their wallets. But, the lose of a first round draft pick isn't even close to getting off easy.

It's been in the light, but apparently even many players don't know it, and that's why they're bashing the Pats like they're the only ones doing it.
Stealing signs is a job description for advance scouts. That's what they do.
The videotape is the whole problem. It's the ONLY problem.

This is EXTREMELY unfair......so GODdell is basically going to punish the Patriots for MAKING THE *#% playoffs?? Obviously, Polian or some other frightened owner just tried to load the deck for himself.........SO if the Pats make the playoffs they LOSE big......and if they don't they still get f'd....How about just taking a 2nd and 3rd and a fine Roger....would that have not been fair? I would have rather seen a suspension of BB (who was the only one that committed the violation) a fine to him, and taking our 2nd and 3rd for next year....that would have been fair......

All I can hope for is that all these critics go through bitter, horrible divorces or some other public spectacle that gets dragged out through the mud affecting their families, teams, etc etc....so they and their fans can see how it feels.........what a sad pathetic day in the history of the NFL

1. Who is this guy?

2. What influence did each member of the competition comittee have on this ruling? Their recommendations to the commissioner should be made public.

3. Which first round draft pick will they be taking?

So the Pats will lose the 32nd pick (winning the Super Bowl, baby!), and will still have their 1st rounder from SF (which could be in the high teens or low 20's). They'll be fine.

Hope they are happy. The League and all of the frauds that have come out from under their rocks to trash the Patriots have their pound of flesh.

I am not certain that they can not appeal this ruling. Could legal action be an option?

What happens of we do it again and get caught....how much worse could that punishment be?

Anyone saying it is "light" just bought into the hysteria.

Denver was penalized a 3rd for a much more severe infraction. A first is a huge punishment.

Part of me wants it to just go away, while another part wants NE to fight it.
