There is no credible evidence that there was a first round pick on the table for Jimmy.

....and if you believe Reiss it seems after doing the Collins deal the NEP did not want a 2nd date with CLE at any price.

Tl;dr- basically the Clowns were a pain in the ass to do business with and had no idea wtf they were doing.

3. There have been questions as to why the Patriots didn’t more strongly consider other teams when they were trading Jimmy Garoppolo in late October, especially given the Browns’ prior inquiries about Garoppolo, and their willingness to give up second- and third-round picks for AJ McCarron in a would-be trade that wasn't filed by the deadline. In addition to preferring to trade Garoppolo out of the conference, here is another reason I believe the Patriots didn’t even dial up Cleveland to get the Browns involved: The last time they worked with them on a trade, for linebacker Jamie Collins in 2016, it was described to me as an arduous process that was the antithesis of other deals the Patriots had made that came together quickly (e.g. Cardinals trade for Chandler Jones, which Arizona GM Steve Keim later used the word “stealth” to describe working with New England). When the Patriots are making a trade, the trust and confidence level they have in the other team to see it through is part of their consideration. That, I believe, was another factor that gave John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers the decisive edge over the Browns for Garoppolo.

Hear this over and over again, and this has been supported by the mediots on sportstalk radio, however it has never been confirmed that any team offered multiple picks or first round picks for Jimmy G..

Even on this board, throughout last spring and summer, his trade value was greatly inflated with no substantiation of any evidence to support the claim.. it did reach absurd proportions when there were suggestions of multiple first round picks offered..
Yes.

If you read Reiss this am,I'm under the belief that Shashi Brown was feeding Mary Cabot Lodge so she would take the offer public because BB wasn't responding because they sucked to do business with.

Yes, it's censorship, and censors always find excuses to justify their actions.
I didn’t say it wasn’t censorship - because if you want to be technical, yes, any post removal is “censorship” - I simply said that I don’t believe we are censoring very much by trying to keep threads on topic and removing personal attacks.

I know you don’t agree with it and I’m sorry you feel that way. But I do not see how trying to keep people from fighting and affecting the experience for all posters negatively is a bad thing.

(Of course I am kind of taking this thread off-topic by posting this, so this is the last I’ll post about it here.)

BTW - I know this about 20 pages too late, with all due respect to Mike Lombardi, I find it hard to believe that there was a "Patriot of the Week" award, and not a SINGLE beat writer ever heard of it, or player never mentioned.....in EIGHTEEN years.

All that being said, I can vaguely remember noting in this thread, that I can't believe that it has run 900 posts long, and here it is approaching 2 THOUSAND posts (of which I'm responsible for 10 or so myself.)

So here we are about a week later and Brady is a bad guy, Seth Wickersham has been crowned sports journalist of the year, by his fellow mediots. All the obvious lies and misrepresentations have been ignored. The few threads of truth have been embellished by his comrades and pure speculation is continuing to be reported as truth. And everyone is now free to do the same forever.

And when, 3 years from now. where there is at least a POSSIBLE chance that Brady and BB really are actually gone, and Kraft has turned things over to Jonathan, that some of these assh0les will tell us "We told you so".

Will we ever just talk about football again????

It’s a tough position, RossMod, but your position is to see to the well-being of the site whether any or none agrees with you.

The Ignore button is censorship as well which I’ve never partaken. But many find it useful if not necessary.

Unfortunately with general anonymity there are always going to be dishonest posters (trolls). Fans of other teams have always been welcome if they show love of their team in an open and thoughtful discourse.

This topic is the reddest of meat for trolls and they have been coming out of the woodwork to disrupt this site. Getting rid of them is something moderators always do, and it’s done to keep the forum from going to crap. I’m glad you guys do it.

I found this on the social media section of the site.

FINALLY a mediot who took the time to figure out that franchising Jimmy was NEVER a possibility.

BTW- there were about 4 MORE FA's that I didn't put into my post on this. Also Kyed's cap number estimate might be a little high, since his source wouldn't add any incentive increases (ie Gronk's) until they actually hit at the start of the NFL's new year.

Why Patriots Never Could Have Kept Both Jimmy Garoppolo, Tom Brady In 2018

Agree. I will never hide a thread or block a poster unless I am under personal attack which in the 10+ years on this board has happened zero times.

I think we need to fundementally understand this board is not run by the government. Its free but technically a private enterprise run by Ian and the good folks who take time out of their day to ensure content standards are maintained. Think of this board as an open source software project in which hygiene standards need to maintained by a governance board.

I hate trolls. Can't stand them and I wish they would go away but it is Ian and the mod's decision on how they wish to govern this site and we as consumers have the choice to block them and/or continue to contribute, lurk or leave if we do not agree with their standards.

You suck and you're ugly. Every time I have gas, I will fart in your general direction. And Clarence was the more talented Weathers.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist being the one to end the 10+ year streak.

Nice try but I still won't block you.

Agree Clarence had a better career. I suck

Kyed with the mike drop.

Volin should be GM of the Browns.

Kyed with the 2nd best take on this media ****storm since Brady's sister.

If anyone cannot understand his article/story then I don't know what to tell you. You're lost and might as well turn your Patriots fan card in and be a 49er/JG fan.

Love Kyed throwing shade on The Mentally Challenged Intern in that piece.
We can use some more mediot on mediot crime these days, instead of the usual pat on the back *********** we so often get.

According to “sources with an opinion on football matters” lol

Also I have to agree with those to think that the quid pro quo of getting Hoyer back as part of the trade is rarely mentioned as a reason they dealt with SF.
It is amazing the Hoyer component of this trade gets lost by everybody. It shouldn't be ignored

And his conclusion is exactly what many of us have been saying for the past year, if you were for keeping Garrapolo you were for trading Brady. Those claiming they wanted to keep both were in fantasy land. And those now pining for Garrapolo shoild go root for the 49er’s because he’s not coming back, and those rooting for the Patriots and Brady to fail are not Patriot fans anymore. You can’t root for your team to fail and be a fan of the team. *The exception to that only comes when draft picks are involved and getting the higher pick makes yhe team better.
