Secretive in the presence of "staffers" doesn't necessarily man secretive with the Krafts, Caserio, McD, MP, etc.

I'm not saying that there was any "clear path" planned out, just that there were likely general parameters for an "acceptable" deal that had been agreed upon by all concerned parties (Garoppolo and Yee among them). It's also possible that everyone's expectations of making any such deal by the trade deadline were low and that it was a bit of a surprise when an acceptable deal actually presented itself.

It may even be the case that BB himself didn't have particularly high expectations of being able to make an acceptable deal when he called Lynch about JG. I don't see that as necessarily being "secretive" - just making the call to see how it goes and then reporting the result later.

I think you missed my point. The fact that Kraft was taken aback about the JG trade offer tells me that they never discussed anything specific about moving on around the trade deadline. Especially because Kraft said he assumed that nothing would happen until the end of the season.

Now at that time in the summer where they met they already knew that the trade deadline would be the final checkpoint where some compensation could be gained (without a franchise tag in play). So they must have at least discussed it but since Kraft was surprised by the entire thing at the end of October the conclusion must have been to stay put. That changed for some reason. And figuring out what changed between July and end of October is fascinating to me. That is unless BB planned to do this all along but never told Kraft about it during the summer meeting.

Kelce will be back next week, Guaranteed.

the conclusion must have been to stay put.

Why "must"? Why would they arbitrarily decide to wait until spring when there could be opportunities forthcoming right up until the end of October?

It may be that Kraft merely assumed that no viable deals would be forthcoming until spring and was surprised when one materialized at the eleventh hour.

Because of what Kraft said in that Peter King piece. If looking at options around the trade deadline was something they discussed he would not have been taken aback by BB actually showing up with a trade.

Sounds like someone finally was awarded a Patriot of the Week award so he’s changed his tune. So selfish... his ego is going to ruin the team!!

Sounds like Patriots human resources got involved....

This is such bullsh.t. Brady has spent his entire career whining and crying and crapping himself at any challenge. The Garrapolites are right, Brady cried and Kraft gave Belichick his marching orders, as he always has. Beluchick is just a Kraft puppet. Bob is the puppet master.
Dude you are losing it. Wtf are you talking about?

There have been a ton of posts by fans such as us on this site arguing that it is worth a lesser pick to hold onto Jimmy G. for the year to see how it goes with Brady.

We were assuming a sign and trade (franchise tag) or a conditional pick in 2019.

The real question is NOT what could the Patriots have gotten for Garoppolo last spring, but what could they have gotten for him when he's sporting a $25m one year contract?

It would have been less than the 1st rounder+ he may have been available for last spring.

Ivan who highjacked your account. This is not like you.

They simply did not expect Tom to function at this level at his age. I also think they soured on Brisket.

Red and Jan Fed up. Larry was in visible decline when that was proposed. We aren't there yet with Tom

The thought has to be there though.....It is inevitable

Farce was a dumb overtime play away from putting the packers into the Super Bowl and the packers had no issue moving in from him

I think they grew tired of Favre up there. That played into it.

Jimmy G should seriously enjoy these next off-season months ahead of him because it might be the greatest time of his entire life - he'll never be this great with the potential of being the GOAT again. Just like today when people say "Remember Bledsoe or Brady" we chuckle, we'll be doing the same in a few years when people say remember Jimmy G or Brady??!!

I predict Jimmy G will be a good quarterback maybe play 4-6 Years as a starter but at the same level as maybe- maybe the Daltons and Straffords (if he's even that good). Once teams get more film on Jimmy G it won't win after win for him. There's also the question of his health/toughness - how durable is this kid??

2018 Jimmy G meets reality and so do the Jimmies.
