Brady apologizes to Josh

Putting myself in General Brady's shoes...

Nobody's got a worse vantage point for who's open and who's not than the QuarterBack. Half the Defense is in your face, trying to kill you or splay their arms out and block your view or both...and you've got to try to read the entire arc of the field, calculate complex geometrical patterns based on where your guys are and where they're heading, and deliver an accurate pass in a few short seconds.

If I dropped back 40 times, I'd be good for about 25 Interceptions.

...and 15 Fumbles. I have no idea how these guys do it.

So, yeah...If I'm Brady, having painstakingly earned the right, over 16 Years and then some, through thousands of Snaps and millions of Reps, to be considered the first undisputed Greatest Of All Time based entirely on my diligence, intelligence, and attention to detail...and some jamoke comes at me with "Hey, he was open."???

well done Tom...

The jamoke is Josh McDaniels. Not me or you hanging out having a beer and slinging armchair advice at the GOAT.

You are implying Tom is above his coach. I respectfully cannot agree with that PoV.

He wasn't apologizing to McD. He was shutting up, the whiners.

I'm sure TB apologized to him, right after the game, if not sooner. IMO

He apologized to him like 3 minutes after it happened on the bench during the game

Pretty sure the audio was something like "Im sorry for getting upset, im just mad at myself" or something to that extent

Lots of people don't have the fortitude to play the sport of football, so its always funny to hear how bent out of shape people can get over stuff like this

This is easy to figure out and piece together...

They get a clip of Brady going off, they get to talk about it on TV and in their articles online so that people like us start freaking out either A) by being super offended that a professional athlete could say naughty words in exchanges with his coach during an intense divisional game or B) the fans trying to defend him as if it needs defending

Talking about Brady, good or Bad = Money for the mediots

You are implying Tom is above his coach.

I am implying no such thing.

I am implying that Respect is a two-way street.

Speaking of which: I respect your POV, as well...And perhaps we'd agree that nothing conclusive can be drawn based on these scraps of information...We both place value on the Chain of Command, and on Coach McDaniel's Resume...And if Lombardi's speculation is correct ~ it's certainly not unfounded ~ that Brady locked in and ignored The Open Man, then McDaniels had a legitimate point to make.

But I would make a point of drawing attention to the fact that nobody is more religious about finding The Open Man that General Tom Brady...and that even if he did see an open man ~ or a guy who was momentarily open or appeared to be, which is a more accurate description of how thing really are, in the Heat of Battle ~ but preferred to go with a guy who'd earned more Trust...then his Judgement has sufficiently earned enough Respect that an OC ~ even McD ~ has no business chirping at'm that "that guy was open" and showing him up.

Respect is a two-way street.

Do I know that McDaniels gave in to some "I've gotta look like I'm being a Coach" impulse and berated Brady in order to "look like I'm being a Coach"?

Of course not.

And he probably wasn't. He probably just got carried away. But Players, be they Tom Brady or #53 on the Browns, are men, and deserve to be treated like men. Being a Coach does not entitle you to berate your men.

If Brady was actually launching "F You's" at McD ~ I'm not as convinced of that as many seem to be ~ then well he ought apologize...

But context matters.

Because there is nothing to ****ing apologize over. This is not being a Brady apologist.
Yeah it is. Getting emotional is fine. Saying "f*** you" several times to a coach (who was doing his job) is not. It's not the end of the world, but I respect Brady for admitting he should not have done it and publicly apologizing.

Like I said... any other player on any other team and this forum would be ripping the player. I can only imagine what people would be saying if Peyton or Eli had ever done something similar.

Uh, McDaniels isn't "some jamoke" - and it speaks volumes as to your respect level for the guy that you called him that.

As far as the offense is concerned, he is 2nd only to Belichick. That hardly makes him "some jamoke".

I am implying no such thing.

And how was McDaniels being disrespectful to Tom. I didn't see him yelling and screaming, I saw him trying to coach a player.

Gimme a break. If you think a coach telling a QB what he should have done on any given play is disrespectful and somehow showing that QB up, then you are indeed putting the QB above the coach.

WTF video are you watching? McDaniels didn't berate anyone. If anything, McDaniels comes off as looking too timid and frightened. He certainly didn't "berate" Brady in any way whatsoever. He was a coach doing his job. He is the top offensive guy on the staff, 2nd only to Belichick in the chain of command.

I wholeheartedly agree with your rationalization. The respect between a player and a coach is absolutely a 2-way street. If there is none, then the team is not a team.

However, I do think it is in Josh's jurisdiction to remind Tom to look at open receivers. Now, I dont know what Josh said of if he insulted Tom but for Tom to seemingly blow up based on a criticism is out of line.

I also believe that Tom does tend to "lock into" players sometimes. Those are players he trusts and I get that.

I think the exchange surfaces a frustration but I'm making a leap to that conclusion.

I do think Tom slung a couple of "F-Us" and Josh and IMO that is reason to apologize.

With that said I have had many hard conversations with coaches but I always did in private.

Emotions got the best of Josh and Tom. It happens. Apologies were exchanged and time to move on.

What are you saying? Only this kind of emotion/exchange is understood by football players?

Morally speaking, I’m glad he apologized for “the children. “ Lessons get lost in the medium (like twitter and poetry) too often.

The rest of you, “**** you!”

THAT's the thing that people don't understand. What Brady did on Friday was just a PUBLIC apology. It was more for us than for Josh. I'm sure that the PERSONAL apology occurred minutes after the blow up.

What haven't seen from the media clips of this "much to do about nothing" moment is the one where MINUTES after his outburst, Brady and Josh are sitting side by side, going over whatever they go over after every series Brady comes off the field. THAT is how soon it was "over" for them. Clearly, given the fact this is currently a 4 page thread, it hasn't been over for the rest of us.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I think most of you are missing the main reason Tom made that public apology at his press conference:
For his teammates ( especially newer and younger ones). He was speaking directly to them, ala BB does sometimes.
Reiss, as usual hit the nail on the head.
Tom was just making sure the new guys knew how much he respected his coach and that they needed to as well.

Me...I'm still waiting for an apology from my ex-wife. The day she left I wrote a short song about it..

My wife left home 'bout a week ago

She stole the kids, and she took all my dough

She peed on the carpet, and she shot my horse

Now things are gone from better to bad to worse

It's got potential,Joe. Find yourself an agent.
Profound lyrics. Speaks to a lot of us who feel a tad wronged by their exes.

Sorry about the carpet.

I have to confess, I plagiarized that stanza...it's part of the seminal rockahillbilly-inbred tune by Jon Wayne called Texas Funeral...
