Actually, it is impossible for him to return from IR, based on the rules.

Edelman wasn't on the roster at cutdowns, he was placed on IR at that point; therefore he is ineligible to return. I assume he doesn't know about that distinction.

I just want to note that, however impossible the odds, I'm rooting for that meteor.

Since others have already mentioned that it is impossible for him to be eligible to play this season the only think I hope for is that he actually doesnt have any set backs or issues with the knee and can be a contributer next year. Taking into account the severity of his injury, how much he relies on quickness and his age it is not a given that we will see him again on the field.

This would actually be terrible news. As he wasn't on the final 53 prior to the week 1 game and therefore is ineligible to be given an IR return designation, I can only take "Jules leaves door slightly open for potential return" to mean he probably isn't coming back next year except for only a 'slightly open door' chance.

Maybe he wants to play for the 49ers because he always liked Jimmy better than Tom(always annoyed at Tom trying to push horrid tasting ice cream on him). Or maybe Jules just hates his coach. Lots of potential reasons why Jules return chances are only slight...
